I've been watching 2010 - The Year We Make Contact over and over recently (it's free on YT), so it's wild that this mission is happening. The wikipedia article for this mission is really interesting, especially the instrumentation on this mission.

It will be going out to Mars, then back to earth, for gravity assists, then out to Jupiter. Should be there about 2030. There are 49 planned close flybys of Europa. It will not be orbiting Europa, and it will be a highly elliptical orbit so that he can dip and run, because the radiation is unbearable. Jupiter traps, radiation similar to our van Allen belts, but like 100 times more. The launch required a falcon heavy, which is essentially a falcon 9 with two falcon 9 first stage is attached to it. It had to use every bit of energy/DELTA-V it could muster, so it was not returned, and was rather burned up in the atmosphere. That’s not common for spacex obviously. There wasn’t a choice, at least, until starship becomes fully operational.
