I don't know how often they filmed artists or bands recording even though others like this do exist. There's one of The Animals recording " When I Was Young." Also the recording session for Eddy Arnold's "Make The Word Go Away" was filmed though I only saw it on some PBS special and haven't been able to find it online so far.
I initially thought that this was the live studio take but a few others have opined that it is not. JDS would likely have been wearing headphones. This is probably a clever promotional tape. The reason it appears so real is that JDS was so good at this type of stuff. She likely was just singing along to the already recorded final take. If you watch other tapes of her, she is flawless in lip synching performances.

What a beautiful song, and the woman singing it. Her voice is charged up with the emotion of the song, and then at the end she pretends to be the tuba playing the outro, and does the cutest little dance moves, and right at the end, she looks like she’s saying ‘was that good enough?’ Well, yes. It was. I’ve always loved Dionne Warwick singing Bacharach, but here I think Jackie Deshannon is right up there with her. Also, as someone else said, 60s women were something else.

I’m 66 and enjoy watching videos from the mid 60’s to the 70’s. I enjoy seeing the vintage recording equipment, cars and the clothes people wore. Also, the recording of Jackie DeShannon singing this song. Great song, beautiful woman.
The singers and equipment got it done back in the day. It was talent and writing that made this music great. Nowadays it’s done with sound effects and editing. Sad. Jackie’s music will be played 100 years from now. I can’t say the same for music I’m hearing today.
This song reminds me when I was a kid,,I grew up the sixties,,this was a big hit,,to hear this angelic voice of Jackie,,so good innocent times,,when we used to sit with the neighborhood kids and talk about fun things and play late outside especially hiding go seek,,eat ice cream on the grass with not a worry in the world when it was peaceful and not so violent like now..

A tear from both eyes, one for the majesty of the songwriting and performances, but the second tear is a sad tear for that this is now a lost art form that is now replaced by singers who depend on computers and fakery to sound in tune
1965. In June of that year I graduated from high school. Song was a tremendous hit. Burt Bacharach was riding high. He and Hal David were churning out hit after hit of the greatest pop music ever written. Dionnne Warwicke was their main singer to interpret their songs. But Jackie DeSahnnon version is the best. The innocence in her voice seemed to capture the innocence of our generation. That innocence came to a crashing halt soon enough. War, social unrest soon tore much of our society apart. Wounds that have never truly healed. I enlisted in the Marines three days after graduating from HS in June of 65. Fought in Vietnam, came home to a country I barely recognized. Went to college and made a great life for myself. But every time I hear Jackie’s version I harken back to those days of innocence and hope. Those days seem like a distant dream.
I knew this song from childhood. It made me smile and truly warmed my heart then as it does now. Finally seeing a visual to it makes me cry. It really is the only thing we need.
The world was a different place back then. I will always be thankful that this was also my time. This has always been one of my favorite songs. I even had them play this at my daughter's wedding (as father, they had to allow it, and I think everyone appreciated it -- especially me while I danced with my daughter --- a final farewell while she began moving on to her new life). The world has changed, we are all older now and I have three wonderful grandkids, and this timeless song. Thanks for finding Jackie, as she sang this song live, so long ago, it seems like yesterday.

This song, and Jackie, both American Icons. The 60's and 70's were some very turbulent times. I can remember listening to this song while thinking about the Assassination of J F.K., and having a brother in Vietnam not knowing if I would ever see him alive again. I can remember going to school in Gary Indiana having to fight my way from English class to Math clas to Gym class and so on until it was time to go home. Being called racial slurs like Honkey, White boy, the list goes on. While the racial riots were going on in Chicago, the Assassination of M.L.K.and J.F.K. There is no downplaying the kaos that gripped our nation during these times. I'm gonna leave it right there. The point is, even with all of this going on, The music helped hold our nation together.
Unbelievable. The actual recording of this....Perfect..Two years before 'The Summer Of Love' Jackie had the message..It doesn't get much hipper than that..Does it? frankny65yroldwhitekid rockfan

So did Bacharach & David.
So do I.
A gift from God! Talented, great looking, strong, smart and heart filled with touching words! Thank you Jackie for sharing your talents with us! She supported our troops as well. Nice Marine Hat!
Im reminded of a beautiful girl i had met at a pool, every time i hear this song. Great memory.
She nailed it.
We definately need this for the world today
