I agree Roger, it's great that these guys, when a problem arises they are doing what needs to be done. Love the positive attitude from these guys. I'm almost 66 and been out of racing for 25 years. They make you feel that your at the track or shop with them. Thanks guys, best of luck to Hunt The Front.

I have been following since the beginning. Proud of all you guys on and off the track, Anyway I have not been in racing now for 35 years, so I don't know shit . . but, I know when you start making 2 H.P. per cubic inch the engine builders use camshafts that have radical opening ramps. that requires extreme valve spring seat & open pressures. ** You should back off the rockers at the end of the racing before loading the car. This will allow the valve springs to All close. If you don't as you know many valves will be off their seat . . . this allows the springs to lose pressure. When that happens the engines starts to miss at high RPM. If they become weak enough this condition causes clearance that results in your cam lobes being beaten to death, and breaking retainers, and valve stem keepers . . . . and then a valve drops into the cylinder and you may lose the block & cylinder heads ($$$$). Solution? Back the rockers off at the end of the night, and reset valve spring clearance before loading up. Yes, a pain in the ass but you will get fast at it. You can mark the damper for what cylinders you can adjust (valve closed) . . . maybe you knew all this? but I had to say something. I'm a old racer that is older than dirt, retired in Mexico :-) I look forward to your video's. ** So, valve springs & valve lash has become critical ** Good Luck :-)

@@thomasgray2184 You guys have obviously never seen one of theses motors blow up like there's did. If you could find some one to take the time and fix the block and re heat treat it you still have early 2000's obsolete SB2 block. Everything in those motors is special order. You would spend enough to buy a Clements Wide Bore motor and the repaired motor would still make less than 900hp.

Even if the block is junk, and you have to source another block. Aside from any internal parts that obviously cannot be repaired.
All of the engine parts are repairable; either by welding up and machining parts such as crankshaft, or heads.
Although the question is cost, and whether or not you could source the parts needed.
However, anything can be fixed and reused. It is just the question is that the most feasible way to go. Or is cutting your losses on that engine and going a different direction the way you want to go. Plus would you feel confident in the repair job; even though that is the advantage of running an aluminium block, and heads. As well as a steel, or Billet crankshaft. I've even seen CNC cams that have been welded back together and machined back to like new again. (Which is the advantage of have worked for drag racer, as well as spending a lot of time around machine shops when I was younger.)

@@gailtaylor1636 It seem there is always a back and and forth with you which I grow tired of. So one of use needs to revisit some videos. So since your the one questioning my statement go to the video were you see this 8800 to 9200 and play the video to the point when you hear that particular comment. Then pause the video and copy the time stamp (example 5:10 stamp) and reply with a new comment below this one. Then IF you can provide alternative information I'll be the first one to admit I'm wrong. Fair enough ?

I'm just wondering why you ran it so long, before freshen up! Those Super lightweight rods defiantly don't live forever! Its not worth tearing up a block, pan, & crank, probably some bent valves also! For a handful of thousands worth of rods, pistons, rings, & pins! I would be on the lookout for a retired engine builder, even retired guys, still love to fix up old junk! They could usually save you thousands, if its just maintenance! Those engines when not hurt, don't usually need too much! You should keep track of laps & how hard the engine was run & at which tracks! We would have notebooks in all the guys haulers, that stayed with the engines! I just hate to see good engines get torn up, Its probably going to be three times as much now! I hope you could get her fixed up! Most of the power is in the top end anyway, & I think you have a good one!

I remember my uncles always saying a motor runs really well right before it blows up… interesting to see what caused it to quit, wonder if the new carb, oil pump or fuel pump had anything to do with it. Hopefully someone’s got something a lil better than the draine and used but not used up for sale..

Who is tuning the engines for the different tracks? need to look at more than oil & fuel pressure. Reading plugs?
looks like the SB2 spun a bearing then kicked the rod out of the side of the block. that's why there are tons of glitter/bearing material in everything.

Is this really really bad luck or is this normal? I am a casual race fan and don't know. I understand the engine was used but 300 laps since being freshened up sure seems low to me. You all seem way less disappointed than I would be.

Hate to say this race engine sometimes can go on the first lap some last 1000 you never know anytime you push parts towards their limit things break bigger tracks more RPMs and longer higher RPMs down the street. Enough said..

Rule of thumb is after 1000 to 1200 laps on a super motor it should be scheduled for a refreshing. 300 laps is nothing.
