If it's a category 2 or 3 loss then the carpet should be replaced. This is a great video for category 1 loss where water was sanitary. Thank you for the comparison.
Leaving standing water in a carpet for longer than 2-3 days, will 100% cause a damp musky smell or even mould/fungus growth. If the carpet is as saturated as shown here, the only way to prevent that is to use a shop vac to extract as much water fron the dapet, then lift the carpet, bin the underlay, dry out the underfloor, replace underlay with new and finish drying carpet off the floor, ideally outside etc for 1-2 days
Ok- not everyone has that luxury to afford a new one and often it’s not necessary at all. The flood source, amount of intrusion and local weather conditions all play a part. Here in southern California where I am mold isn’t as big of an issue as say the south east. airflow, humidity control and vacuuming can save that carpet saving money and resources.
@@prof.crastinator Hiring a crew or renting the equipment and doing it yourself… you’re really not saving much. Why take the chance with mold when that will cause chronic health issues and cost you way more in the long run EVEN if you dry it completely. Carpet hold tons of nasty dirts.

@@holylabs Again- mold isn’t an issue here. I would toss it at the sign of mold
@@prof.crastinator I would toss all carpet and only use sectional ones that can be thoroughly cleaned. To each their own. Take care.
