Yes it is but we referred to it 8 mm Mauser as there are other cartridges and loading in 7.92x57 that will not shoot out out of Gew 98 or k98 for example the original 1888 commission rifles. Thanks for watching.
Mine is a 1926 VZ24 Batch E*26 the star represents a small lions head. Then the serial number is 6336 K1 with a bit fo space between the four difets and the K1 but idk what the K11 represents. On the side of the reiceiver it only has VZ24 but nothing else. The on top is Two slavic words and BRNO. There is also a very small lions head stamp on the knob of the bolt. All matching numbers, including the bolt. But since mine was built in 1926 and could have been captured by my gramps from the middle east threw to German idk what caliber it is?
Sorry i cant provied right now because i m out of country long time ago i will try my best to get pics of gun and cartrage when ever i get i will send u thank for help
@@RTACDaughters thank you I'm asking because Dallas Deputy Sheriff Roger Craig said he saw 7.65 Mauser stamped on the barrel of the rifle found on the 6th floor of the TSBD the day Kennedy was assassinated. That was 1963. I want to know if that was even possible.
Hi, hate to ask questions like this on somebodies channel, but my father gave me a modelo argentino a long time ago. It’s been sporterized. Is there a fool proof way to know the correct caliber? I think it is probably 7.65x53 but it is not stamped on the barrel. Thanks for the video. Ps would you trust that round for deer hunting?
You would be hard pressed for new FMJ or surplus ammo is harder to get. Hunting bullets would be the way to go. Reloading could be as low as 50 cents a round up to 1.25 a round. Prices are all over the place at this time.
Great knowledge. Have an 8 mm Mauser inherited from my farther. Was his deer rifle. How do you believe the 7mm “mag” compares to the 8mm? I shoot long range up to 1000 usually with a variety of target precision rifles. Considered a 28 Nosler and know how it compares to 7mm mag but not sure of the comparison between 7mm mag and 8mm Do understand relationship between 30-06 to 8mm but wondered if you had comparatives.
7mm mag is not the same as 7mm mauser apple and oranges . The same with 8mm is good to 500 yards max. It can go to longer range with the right bullet weight. Same with 30.06 but they are not in the same class as 7mm mag I like 300winmag better if we are talking belted mag cases.
In this video they shows 2 type of 7mm that the one i have it looks like the in round shape on top not sharp one butt this is 7.65 the one i have it 8×60mm
I want to know what is the difference between 8×60mm or 8×57mm both r 8mm or different i have cartrage which have 8×60mm wrighten at the botom can u explain please
7.92x 57 mm aka 8mm mauser is a rimless case. 8x60mm can have a rimmed vase. With out seeing the round and the case you are talking about it could be 8x60r Austrians or krag. If so bullets are different for all rounds size wise and in 8mm mauser there are two types of bullets size.
@@RTACDaughters still confuse 8mm have 2 kinds of bullets 8mm and 8mm magnum is the same or different explain please thank for ur comments i have my granddad rifle german mauser bolt action 5 shot he bought in 1960s i have only 3 bullets left i try to found but i cant know body knows what rifle is that how can i found these
with out seeing the rifle and its markings I cant really help you! but you can lookup german rifles and might get the answer you need! Or email me some pictures! @ chevysub1978@gmail.com
8x60 was a Mauser cartridge designed due to Versailles treaty. Germany could only have 100,000 rifles, carbines in 8x57IS, millitary version. This was included Millitary,Police ,service rifles for other units and offices and Civillians. So they lenghtened the chamber to 8x60 to overcome that and so they could make much non other Gov rifles not be scrapped. However they used both the 8mm bullet sizes on it . The .318 ,8x60 .323. 8x60 S for SmG shweres spitz geschoss ,bullet after 1905 updating. And one load called " Magnum Bombe" They also made a Rimmed version of it ,so 8x60R and 8x60RS. , It was used by some ,and well liked but after 1935 when civillians could used the 8x57IS,again after production came into speed and numbers again it slowly fell away. But it also competed some with the .318 Westley Richarda especially in German areas in African areas and some in India who liked 8mm better.
Saying the 7.65x53 is not as good as a ..7.62x51 is patently untrue. Locate a Ken Waters 'Pet Loads' reloading manual and read what he had to say about the 7.65x53. Ken Waters 'Pet Loads' is the Holy Grail of reloading manuals.
I just came across your video and watched . I have to disagree with you on the 8mm designation you used . The IS and JS are one in the same . The German high gothic letter they used at that time , the “ I “ looks very close to their “J “ . So I & J ammo is the round nose , the IS & JS ammo is the pointer bullet , as you mentioned the round nose & pointed are different diameters . The IRS & JRS , R referring to rimmed . So yes you need to know if your rifle has been updated from the “I “ round nose to the “IS “ pointed nose ammo , you can not interchange them in your rifles .
Yes I just picked up a Chilean 7mm I’m going to get some ammo and test it out
Great info Rick. I have a soft spot for the 8mm. That caliber and a 8mm rifle from the second war is one of my favorite rifles to shoot
A trick: watch movies on KaldroStream. I've been using it for watching all kinds of movies during the lockdown.
@Hayden Calvin Yea, have been using kaldroStream for since december myself :D
The JS and IS are the same and are the new ones, the older one is the I or J.
Excellent knowledge as usual! It still amazes me
The 8x57 came in 2 dia. Bullets .318 and .323
The old Commission 8mm rifles came in .318 diameter.
The German military never made or approved 311 bullets. It was 321 for the GEW88 then 323.
Thank you for the video. It answered a lot of questions i had.
Thanks for watching.
8×56R M95 Styer Mannlicher which was re sized in 1934.
Just came into 7x57mm. Am trying to find ammo now.
8mm mauser is actually 7.92 x 57

It was in cezk army for sure which leads me to that its in 8mm mauser or 7.92x57 which is the same cal. Try to see it that fits into the breach.

the 7mm fit perfect in my type 99 arisaka.
How can you identify the rifle as a 7.65 Mauser? Are there any markings on the barrel that say '7.65 Mauser'?
If the rifle was Inported after 1968 it will .
@@RTACDaughters thank you

Kennedy was shot with a carcano in 6.5
