I have a carrier from 1993, the year that the house was built. It is now 2024 and the HVAC system quit blowing. It is a dumb system from 1993 and doesn't even know if the motor is spinning. I took the covers off the HVAC system and on the blower motor housing it states that the motor needs 25 drops of 40 weight motor oil every two years if running continually or every 5 years if not every day. I haven't oiled the motor in 31 years and it runs every day. I pulled the blower housing out and surprisingly the blower motor spun easily. Over the years of changing the filters, the brackets that hold the filters would bend and not allow a flush mount on the filters so air would pass by. I would also wait almost a year to change the filter. When I pulled the housing out, the fan blades were caked with 31 years of dirt and dust. I pulled the motor out and soaked the fan in a bucket of soapy water overnight. The amount of dirt that came off that fan was amazing. The HVAC system now blows air like a champ. So, change your fiters and get in the HVAC system with a hammer and beat the filter retaining brackets back into place.

I don't have a carrier HVAC ..it's a Bryant.. no fault codes.. not sure if it even can do this...15 year old system... moter doesn't spin . Moter hums But doesn't spin... After watching this video.. and a few others.. Somewhat handy sort of guy.. I think I will tackle this. Probably will replace the capacitor as well.. and inspect the moter arms and grommets to see if these need to be replaced. Thanks for the inspiration 👍
Good luck with the project. You should be able to find a motor on ebay. Take measurements of the existing motor including shaft dia and length and note voltage specifications on its nameplate to assure acquisition of correct replacement. Beware of cheap substitute motors as they will not last and are subject to noise due to inferior manufacturing. Take some pics of the bad motor positioning in relation to blower and motor bracket before you start. These make for great positioning references during installation of new motor. @@johnyanik1414 I intended to replace the motor. I replaced the blower run capacitor only, fired it up, and the motor initially hmmed for a few seconds.. I tapped the outside of the blower housing gently with my screwdriver which may have nothing to do with anything but after a few more seconds the unit started spinning normally its been running fine ever since but curious if the problem was the run capacitor upon replacement of it why the hmmm after replacement ? You think the motor could still be an issue or failure ready to happen soon? Or are these observations consistent with a run capacitor failure? Maybe it took a moment for the new blower capacitor to get energize upon power up? Thoughts?
@@pcexpress911 Does the blower spin freely without restriction? Did you check your voltage? Are the contacts on the motor run relay ok? Is the capacitor the correct type and value?
