Most informational review yet, well done! 100% agree on the tilt-tech, and I actually partially tore a string on the internal edge of a sidewall hole while stringing; if they reversed the direction it might be kinda cool. I wasn't a fan of the weight either, but I do wonder how much weight is contained within that lock throat mechanism itself? I didn't throw around with the one I strung, but it does feel like the center of gravity is pretty low in the head, which means it might feel more like a 4.9 oz-5 oz head on a shaft.
Greg, I recently committed to Greensboro College, and I would like to say a big thank you to the entire ecd family for always keeping me interested in lacrosse with all of the videos you do on this channel.
Greg, I watched this before string one for my son and I agree that initially the tilt-tech was a pain. The way I combated this was I used the tilt-tech to pull the side wall down (going with the tilt) and then pulled up (against the tilt-tech) to lock the sidewall off-e.g. not letting the sidewall loosen. Result was a really tight, consistent sidewall on both sides. Your insight was key to me figuring this out so THANK YOU!! I will be putting the pics of this on Instagram really soon (Black Evo 5, with red Hero Mesh and black top, sidewall, nylon and shooters on a red/black Nike Alpha. Really proud of my little guy as he bough this with his own money! I've said this many times, thank you for your videos, all the ECD products and support!!
East Coast Dyes, you can vary the aluminum tape stack up as needed and keep it under the head for a clean look. I also use a squeegee to work the tape down for maximum contact.
It seems with this they tried to gear it more toward middies and poles rather than the attackman or offensive players that have sworn by this head for years. I still play with evo 4 and I've been using Evos for 15 years since the first one. I reserve jusdgement until I can get my hands on one but I do feel as an offensive player this is a step back from the 4
It does feel a little more like a midfielders head, but I have a feeling a ton of top attackmen will be rocking it soon. But, you can never go wrong with the Evo 4
The lock-throat tech is approaching the wobble issue the wrong way; it's an issue of the throat plastic not being in full contact with the handle. A screw or a gizmo on the inside of the handle isn't going to help that very much. I always just use a piece of a shooting string to fill up the empty space and initiate a flush-er fit. Something I picked up from a guy in 2012; it works every time.
I have used a piece of tape many of times to prevent my head from wobbling too. But I do understand what you are saying about the lock throat technology. I think it a great concept and get eventually become something unique.
Can you please tell us the sidewall stringing knot pattern and hole spacing you used for your EVO 5 in the video? Maybe even do an EVO 5 stringing video for the ECD blog.
The lock throat makes it so you can't put it on a shaft like the ecd carbon. What would you suggest to be able to put it on a shaft that has filling near the top
Jacob, I own the same shaft. With a 5/8" wood drill bit, you can drill out the carbon core, making sure you don't hit the side wall, go all the way through the core and then you can install the head. The combination is deadly.
Hey Greg wondering of the evo 5 is a good head to use for attack. Ive been playing woh it for a whole season and its been great but im wondering of maybe the head isnt helping me? I know this is a late comment but I would love the help, love the channel. THANKS!
ECD Lacrosse I have the evo5 and have saved up my money for the carbon pro but I am unsure if it will fit so can u clearify if it will fit on the carbon pro (preferably the black)
Greg great video as usual. My birthday is October 4 and I'm asking for the evo 5, thanks to this video. it would be cool if u can give a shout out to me on my birthday in one of your videos that day. It would mean the world to me, because I've been subscribed for a while now. Please respond ASAP, thanks a lot :-)
Thanks man! Maybe we can give you a little birthday shout out on your birthday somehow may snap-chat or something....Anyways happy early birthday from me and the entire ECD Crew
I dont have snapchat or instagram or any social media, i wish i did, but the only way i could see it is if it is on youtube. Thanks guys. Tell brian that i think i could beat him at accuracy and pig. If u did a shotout on youtube, im a freshmen at west islip high school new york. It would be so cool if i could show vid to friends and family
i like when he used to play with it and tell us how he liked it

Mainely Mesh would you recommend an evo 5 for a freshman in HS ?
its all preference
I love gregs reviews and the depth but I wish he would do a review on a used head like your channel does. I wanna see the long term affects of use
Good call on the center of gravity being a little lower. It does feel a little lighter on a shaft. Not surprised you tore a string on the tilt tech.
***** agreed.
Greg, I recently committed to Greensboro College, and I would like to say a big thank you to the entire ecd family for always keeping me interested in lacrosse with all of the videos you do on this channel.
Congratulation man that is an awesome achievement!

Thanks Dan that is great to hear! We will continue to keep the tutorials .I hope you and your guys have a Happy Thanksgiving!
i have an evo 4x and cant wait to get that evo 5 im totally putting some 2.0 in it to
Change sidewall holes, lower price to $90, and add a stringing hole or two and I'm in
Yea they have done something a little different other than that it is still a good head
i got a evo 4 one day before the evo 5 came out
DAB SIN rip
The evo 4 is still awesome lol
Greg, I use pieces of aluminum tape to build up the shafts under heads that wobble.
Interesting I have always used grip tape. I will check that out next time I need to fix a wobbly head
East Coast Dyes, you can vary the aluminum tape stack up as needed and keep it under the head for a clean look. I also use a squeegee to work the tape down for maximum contact.

Dude you totally just made my day by responding thanks alot man!
Glad we could do that !! Have a great weekend!!
Yea man you too have a good day and weekend
Hey greg, if you don't mind, what is the pattern you used on that head?
The lock-throat tech is approaching the wobble issue the wrong way; it's an issue of the throat plastic not being in full contact with the handle. A screw or a gizmo on the inside of the handle isn't going to help that very much. I always just use a piece of a shooting string to fill up the empty space and initiate a flush-er fit. I have used a piece of tape many of times to prevent my head from wobbling too. But I do understand what you are saying about the lock throat technology. I think it a great concept and get eventually become something unique.
It's an interesting way to go about it, we'll see what the next rendition brings
Can you please tell us the sidewall stringing knot pattern and hole spacing you used for your EVO 5 in the video? Maybe even do an EVO 5 stringing video for the ECD blog.
We used this pattern
Top string on 2nd
loop start on 3rd
0,0,si,0,si,0,si,si,si,si,si,si,si
Greg I love you and I love Hero Mesh
Thanks man!
What is the pattern you used
The lock throat makes it so you can't put it on a shaft like the ecd carbon. What would you suggest to be able to put it on a shaft that has filling near the top
What position do you play shoot us an email to sales@eastcoastdyes.com
@EastCoastDyes ok, I think that I'll try the hammer 500, I used a hammer U for 2 years
Hammer U is a cool head I really like it
Great video. When will a stringing tutorial be released?
I don't know when it will be made or released.
talk about what type of pocket to use in the heads
You can never go wrong with a mid pcoket
Which do you prefer? The evo warp, or the evo 5
tofer lax he shit all over the warp
Warp is a cool concept, but it isn't there yet. I would take the Evo 5 any day!
I'm looking to restring my head with new Hero 2.0 and was wondering What pattern you used
Hmm let me see if we have the head strung up still
ECD Lacrosse thanks, let me know if u find it
where can the unbranded titanium shaft be purchased
Can you do a stringing tutorial
When will you announce the winner of the helmet and stringing supplies
The winners were contacted and the prizes were shipped!
is there any way to remove the lock throat techknowledge so i could put it on a dragonfly 7
You can't without damaging the head
Jacob, I own the same shaft. With a 5/8" wood drill bit, you can drill out the carbon core, making sure you don't hit the side wall, go all the way through the core and then you can install the head. The combination is deadly.
Where can I find this pattern
You should review the new new balance cleats
If we get sent a pair we will most likely do a review on them!
How do you remove lock throat
Hey Greg wondering of the evo 5 is a good head to use for attack. Ive been playing woh it for a whole season and its been great but im wondering of maybe the head isnt helping me? I know this is a late comment but I would love the help, love the channel. THANKS!
Wyatt, some of the best attack men in the game use this head but I might be a bit biased and would go with the Rebel O
Would this head be good for a high school middie?
nice video greg
Doesn’t the ecd DNA weigh like 6.3oz? I honestly don’t know, that’s all I could find on the web
right around 6oz not sure where you got that information but that would be tad heavy
@@ECD ok thanks, I thought 6.3 was a bit much
Regulator Max review?
Just got one in the other day it will take a few weeks to get a video!
Would this head work on a Nike vapor composite shaft?
Yes
Is it really an "unbranded" titanium shaft, Greg? Or is it a prototype for you guys?
Just a unbranded shaft lol
When's the new BCA mesh dropping?
Not sure... we have something special planned for this year in October so stay tuned!
Can you use a head with lock throat on a carbon shaft?
Yes, as long as the shaft is hollow it will fit
Looks like what happened to the clutch
similar
Where can I find a white carbon I have been looking but I can't find it
Have you checked on the major retailer websites... Lax.com, dicks sporting goods, LU....etc
Yeah all I can find is a black and grey one
i have a carbon and im hoping to get a carbon pro. can i get it of your website?
sorry boss man we do not sell our shafts on our website you can find them at most of the large retail stores!
would this be good for defense?
There a better options for a defensive heads than this. But you if you decide to try it out on defense let us know how it works !
Greg. Should I get a stx u550 or a super power +?
I've used both and like them both
550!
GREAT review
Thanks !
hi greg, i wanted to know if the evo 5 fits on the carbon pro
It will fit on the black carbon pro but not the white
ECD Lacrosse I have the evo5 and have saved up my money for the carbon pro but I am unsure if it will fit so can u clearify if it will fit on the carbon pro (preferably the black)
What's your opinion on not having shooter strings?
Not a fan but if your doing well without them keep doing it
I have the evo 4 I play midfield o and D, would this be great head for that position?
This is a super versatile head so you could use it wherever
ECD Lacrosse thankyou
i have a question, if i have a composite shaft, will i be able to use the head with lock throat, or am i screwed?
Is your shaft hollow?
East Coast Dyes no its the carbon
ECD Lacrosse can you take the lock off? Why didn’t anyone think about that. Just bought this head online and now I’m fucked
great review
Thank you!
Does the lock throat add weight?
It does, but not exactly sure how much.
Would this be a good Lsm head?
It would be alright I think there are a few better options like the Command, Hammer 500 or the Mirage
What type of screw do I use for the ego 5
Evo*
self tapping #8 is what we recommend
And killer vid just like all the other ones bro👍🏻
Thanks man!
Hey Greg who won the giveaway
I contacted the winners in private messages.

Centrik is the route I would go

Thanks for watching the video Toby!
Bruh I got one you can’t put it on a composite shaft
What composite shaft were you using?
Evo 5 or Lakota u
Lakota U
LOL My son has (5) Evo 5 heads. Best lax head ever.
