Yeah, Steppenwolf is a band from my childhood, I was born in the 60's and raised on the music of the 70's. There's plenty of hits and some not as well known greats like, "Ride With Me", "Who Needs Ya", "Move Over", "Snowblind Friend", "For Ladies Only", "Sookie Sookie", then the more familiar ones such as, "Born To Be Wild", "Rock Me", "Hey Lawdy Mama", "Magic Carpet Ride", "The Pusher" and "Jupiter's Child". LOVE Steppenwolf!! Hope you keep divin' in!

Steppenwolf was a Canadian-American rock band from 1968 to 1972. Their biggest hits were "Born To Be Wild", "Magic Carpet Ride" & "Rock Me" but other songs are "Straight Shootin’ Woman", "Hey Lawdy Mama", "Who Needs Ya", "Move Over", "Monster" etc. Both of their songs "Born To Be Wild" & "The Pusher" were used prominently in the 1969 cult film "Easy Rider".

Mars dropped a cassette tape of this song into the mail slot at his brother Jerry's house and was afraid the dog would eat it! But they listened to it, revved it up, everyone figured out their parts and within 20 minutes they had their version of it and they made it their own.
And Mars was set for life just for writing this one song, tons and tons of royalties...

It hit the Top 10 but would've charted higher except Mike Monarch got caught pretending to blow his nose on the American flag in the lobby of WLS in Chicago and the big boss saw that, pulled their music and a lot of other AM stations did too, so that definitely hurt!!!

You are definitely having one of those "this is their song?" kinda days ... But to answer your question,
#BORN TO BE WILD has been featured in many movies. Most notably in the 1969 film #EASY RIDER starring Peter Fonda [son of the late movie icon Henry Fonda. Peter also wrote and produced #EASY RIDER] , Dennis Hopper [who co-wrote and directed the film] and Jack Nicholson as a drunken young lawyer.

That riff has even been commercialized to death in many different sales ads...For a political and stoner vibe commentary deep dive Don't Step on The Grass Sam ,,,The Ostrich,, The Pusher ,, ,Monster original version .are super. They were the innovators of that vibe way before the 90s grunge stoners came onto he scene ..Steppenwolf did still make albums up to the mid 70s and John Kaye kept the name alive by getting others to join the band played many shows for decades ..The band just did not fade away but the band members were not the exact same after the mid 70s..

John Kay is 80 years old.

Maybe the original band had a short run, and several of them have died, but the main man, John Kay, is still making music and has been since the 60's. There's a shit-ton of Steppenwolf music out there for you to enjoy, just start looking. Since it sounds like you have already done Magic Carpet Ride, here's a couple of recommendations from a long time fan. See what you think about; The Pusher, It's Never Too Late, Don't Step On The Grass, Sam, Hippo Stomp, or Ballcrusher. Dig deep, friend, you will not regret it.

I grew up in the '80s listening to the cheesy digital synthesizers of that era's music, but the electric pianos and early synthesizers of the '60s and '70s had more satisfying sounds. I suggest you react to the 1973 song "Frankenstein" by the Edgar Winters Group. There's a music video online that others have reacted to.

Different organ. Step used a Hammond B3, distorted, and run through a spinning Leslie. Doors used the classic Vox Continental, a reedier more psychedelic 60’s iconic organ also used by the Animals, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Iron Butterfly, Paul Revere and the Raiders, ? And the the Mysterians, Dave Clark 5, many others. Like Steppenwolf, Deep Purple used the Hammond/Leslie approach. Vanilla Fudge also used a Hammond. Hammond was predominant in Soul and Motown groups, without the Leslie.
