  • My hardware synth adaptation from Röyksopps Awesome track, Monument (T.I.E Version).
I've made one version earlier that you can hear on my soundcloud :
    / royksopp-monument-inst...
But this time I wanted to do new video version using just hardware synths and use computer only for recording.
    Synths used:
    Bassline : Roland SH-101
Chords : Roland SH-01 Gaia (Sequenced by Boss DR-202)
    PWM backing synth : SH-101
    Pads : Jupiter Clone
Choir vocals in break : Roland SH-01 Gaia
    Bright DX-style synths : Yamaha TX81z
Solo Synth at the end : Jupiter Clone
Drums : Roland TR-707 and Roland TR-606 (Hihats)
Reverb and delays : Lexicon MPX100

Good Work, I love this song and your cover! But more interesting (for me) than your list of synths is your mastering chain ;) Maybe you can tell me or us here, how you can make that fat sound (kick, bass and snare) with that old school equipment? I love this video... cheers from Germany

Hi, brilliant work!! Did you have to write the rhythm/loop from scratch of where you able to pull from one of the synth/units you used? Thxs in advance!

Hey dude, your channel is awesome, thank you so much!
    I have a question:
I´m a musician since im 8 years old. I mainly played accordion, now mainly guitar and e-guitar. I love to compose and I´m searching for a simple, easy to learn, but professional sounding synthesizer. With whom I can play things like Röyksopp, Prodigy, DaftPunk etc.. Could you recommend me anything? I would appreciate an answer very much! Stay tuned and thx!

    • @tiergrinder
      @tiergrinder  6 лет назад

Hi there and thank you for the comments and writing to me :)
I would start out with good subtractive ("Traditional" synth : Oscillator > Filter > Amp, Envelopes and so on) and learn synthesis with that. It's good to have good hands on controls so every main function has its dedicated knob or slider so there is no menu diving to edit sounds.
It all depends from your budget and do you want a keyboard version or is desktop module version enough, that is if you have a midi keyboard already.
Todays Virtual synths (VA Synths) sound so good that those will get you long way. Access Virus series has some really cool synths and even though their latest flagship synths will cost big bucks, there are great Virus synths on second hand market for good prices. I would look for Virus C or Virus TI.
For budget option the roland SH-01 Gaia that you can see on my videos is a great learning synth and it sounds decent. Many bash its sounds but I like it. Virus will sound thicker and more professional but it will cost more than twice the price of GAIA. What's great in gaia is that it has a slider/buttons for each parameter and function so its really hands of synth with great design.
If you want to dive to analog synth world, I would start with Behringer Deepmind 12. It's a great keyboard that is based on Roland legendary Juno-106.
It has 12 analog voices and you can stack there in a way that Juno never could. Deepmind 12 will cost around 900-1000 dollar range but it's worth it!
There is now also cut down Deepmind 6 that is just half of the 12 but still has the same amount of voices as the original and now legendary Juno-106.
Deepmind 6 seems to fetch around 650-700 dollar range at the moment.
To put it short, Virus synths are the standard what the trance artist used when trance got BIG in early 2000 and still use Virus synths. Virus can do all kind of sounds from classic 80's analog polysynth sounds to monosynth bass and lead sounds so its really versatile. They are not just trance synths but mostly known for that genre.
Deepmind will sound more like a classic analog polysynth and its great for pads, chords, bass sounds and so on but it might not be the best for screaming leads and really cutting sounds. Virus can shine on that department too.
If I had to choose one from my own suggestions for the styles I've posted on my channel, I would take the Deepmind 12 / Deepmind 6.
Write back if you have questions :)
