  • After 9 months of owning and using the 120LB Pepin Fast Series Adjustable Dumbbells, I have been nothing short of delighted. Now with the REP x Pepin collaboration and the more affordable price point, these are bar none the best adjustable dumbbell on the market across any price range.
    I sold my full set of urethane dumbbells after purchasing these because the Pepin’s feel as balanced but take up significantly less space. In other ways they are even better: a thicker handle diameter, slightly more aggressive (perfect) knurling, the weight distribution is spread evenly around your hand, and the speed of change is 5-10 seconds between any weight increments.
    If anybody is on the fence about swapping, upgrading, or buying the Pepin Fast Series, either the original or pre-ordering the REP x Pepin version, I am happy to share that they have met or exceeded all my original expectations and can comfortably say they ar worth every penny.

    Awesome review! I’m a Canadian and the price point of the Pepins were quite a lot even in Canada (I think they were $2500 CAD plus shipping as Canadians don’t really do free shipping like in the USA). Currently I have 2 dumbbell handles and 130 lbs of 10, 5, and 2.5 lbs plates plus the Abmat dumbbell cushions (not good). So when Rep signed up with Pepin to make these I got SUPER excited. 85lbs to Canada is $1450 CAD with shipping, import taxes and local taxes. Still a major bargain.
    I find that my dumbbells with 28mm is not sufficient and believe the wider diameter and better knurl handles are rhetorical sweet spot!
    I am looking forward to ordering and having the Rep/Pepin set. Great review and awesome to hear the long term feedback.

      I’m really happy for the REP x Pepin partnership and I think it can only be beneficial to both companies. Pepin gets to scale and leverage his original engineering and design to reach a much larger customer base with the relatively more affordable pricing. Hope you enjoy when/if you get yours!

    Are you able to do a two-handed overhead tricep extension or do the side supports get in the way? Or are the side supports comfortable enough to hold to perform this exercise?

    • @TheJungleGymYouTube
      @TheJungleGymYouTube  Месяц назад +1

      The side supports actually make it much easier to do this exercise and also hammer curls because in both exercises the side supports allow you to use a neutral grip so it’s actually more comfortable than a traditional dumbbell fitting both hands around the dumbbell head

    Q&A:
    1. Do these make noise during movement like snatch-to- overhead? I'm not a fan of noisy dumbbells. I've got Core Fitness now, and they're louder than I prefer.
    2. Considering any noise in previous question, how much noise does the smaller weight increment attachments make?
    3. Can the add-on 1.25 and 2.5 lbs be added onto each side of the hand to balance out the weight?
    4. Do you have a link or more info on the NUOBELL upgrade? Given that I've got to switch weight rapidly, a twisting action of the wrist might be best...I just don't want to concern myself with NUOBELL breakage.

    • @TheJungleGymYouTube
      @TheJungleGymYouTube  Месяц назад +1

      1. I will say for movement with normal speeds they are silent, if you are throwing them/moving them really fast/changing gravitational direction quickly then they will have some noise. This is a byproduct of the interlocking weight plates which need some small tolerances in order not to stick
      2. The weight increments don’t make any noise because they are “locked” in via a spring pin rather than interlocking like the normal weight plates
      3. Yes, they only come in pairs so you put 1.25 on each side for a total of 2.5LB increment and same for 2.5 each side for 5LB increment, so it is completely and evenly balanced.
      4. Sorry I am not familiar with Nuobells new upgrade/design but I think GGR just did a recent review, hope you can find the info you are looking for there

    Mounting options? Tell more about how you mounted to the rack. Can they be placed or mounted on an angled rack that is usually used for dumbbells?

    • @TheJungleGymYouTube
      @TheJungleGymYouTube  27 дней назад +1

      Hey there, I have a RUclips Shorts video on my main channel that goes over that setup in more detail.
      Regarding your second question, I can’t speak to that question since I’ve only ever mounted completely horizontally. I assume they can be placed on an angle dumbbell stand but there might be some impact to racking and unracking with friction between the weights due to the angle. But also probably dependent on how much of a an angle.

    Nice review, what is this storage situation you have?

    • @TheJungleGymYouTube
      @TheJungleGymYouTube  Месяц назад +2

      It’s a pair of Crandall Fitness dumbbell spotters holding the Pepin Cradles. They are mounted on a DIY crossmember setup consisting of a couple 16inch REP crossmembers on either side bolted horizontally to my main rack, and some vertical bolted “posts” on top of those crossmembers which are an old Titan crossmember cut in half. Essentially all just to push the dumbbell location to inside the rack, customized to my own height and spacing preference. Maybe I can make a quick walkthrough one of these days of the power rack and dumbbell rack.

    Do the weight selector pins stay fixed without worry of moving?

    • @TheJungleGymYouTube
      @TheJungleGymYouTube  6 дней назад

      Oh yeah, it’s “locked” in and spring loaded. And Even if you push the selector pin out, you would have to also simultaneously slide the selector down the rail and overcome a lot of weight/friction force in order to lose any weight plates. you would have to have a 2 point failure which is practically impossible

    I'm still not a fan of these compared to NUO DUMBELLS. They take three times longer to adjust, and I think trying to bale out of a heavy bench press can be a little dangerous with the exterior bars.
