Pepin Fast Series Adjustable Dumbbells - The Best Home Gym Dumbbells?

- After 9 months of owning and using the 120LB Pepin Fast Series Adjustable Dumbbells, I have been nothing short of delighted. Now with the REP x Pepin collaboration and the more affordable price point, these are bar none the best adjustable dumbbell on the market across any price range.
I sold my full set of urethane dumbbells after purchasing these because the Pepin’s feel as balanced but take up significantly less space. In other ways they are even better: a thicker handle diameter, slightly more aggressive (perfect) knurling, the weight distribution is spread evenly around your hand, and the speed of change is 5-10 seconds between any weight increments.
If anybody is on the fence about swapping, upgrading, or buying the Pepin Fast Series, either the original or pre-ordering the REP x Pepin version, I am happy to share that they have met or exceeded all my original expectations and can comfortably say they ar worth every penny.

Michael,
Thanks so much for sharing your honest long term review on my product ! I'm glad you still love them. Stay tuned for new innovative products.
David.
You’ve made the perfect dumbbell. I stuck with my fixed dumbbells for so long waiting for the best adjustable dumbbell and you delivered.
@@ladouceurmatt I appreciate the feedback !!
I sold my Iron Masters this week to make room for the Rep Fitness x Pepin dumbbell in the August 20th ship date group. I still have my 5-50 urethane fixed set and plan to keep it since my wife can use it at the same time.
Thank you for the review. There is a lack of reviews for these dumbells and each and every one of them is important for people to make an informed decision.
Exactly. And I am happy to share my (satisfactory) long term experience with them!
Awesome review! I’m a Canadian and the price point of the Pepins were quite a lot even in Canada (I think they were $2500 CAD plus shipping as Canadians don’t really do free shipping like in the USA). Currently I have 2 dumbbell handles and 130 lbs of 10, 5, and 2.5 lbs plates plus the Abmat dumbbell cushions (not good). So when Rep signed up with Pepin to make these I got SUPER excited. 85lbs to Canada is $1450 CAD with shipping, import taxes and local taxes. Still a major bargain.
I find that my dumbbells with 28mm is not sufficient and believe the wider diameter and better knurl handles are rhetorical sweet spot!
I am looking forward to ordering and having the Rep/Pepin set. Great review and awesome to hear the long term feedback.
I’m really happy for the REP x Pepin partnership and I think it can only be beneficial to both companies. Pepin gets to scale and leverage his original engineering and design to reach a much larger customer base with the relatively more affordable pricing. Hope you enjoy when/if you get yours!
I noticed that there's a huge jump in quality on this channel. Love how thorough this is too.
Thank you, I am still trying to fine tune some production and editing logistics on my end and hopefully the videos will only continue to get better in terms of both content and quality. Stay tuned!
Solid review.
I’m Canadian. Was tempted to pick these up last year but couldn’t swallow the cost. I intend to grab the Rep version now. Cheers!
That’s the beauty of the new collab, enjoy!
I ordered the 85 lb set from rep.
I have these too 045/500 ….best equipment ever
045 That’s awesome. Glad you like them too these are fantastic
06/500 here, OG handles lol
@TheJBSFamily we must find #1 ha
Haha using them now for chest n arms… kinda stuck at 100s for flat for a while but one day I will try to hit 120s for reps and 3 sets 🤪
I wish I could have got these at the new price. It stung to buy them a year ago at full price. However, they are very well made and I will have these for the rest of my life. I also made my own walk in stand.
Yes I was very fortunate to have had a full set of urethane dumbbells to sell them for and come out net $0. Otherwise they are a long term investment but still a worthy one. What is your stand/setup?
@@TheJungleGymRUclips I built a stand from scratch out of 2 inch square tubing. I made it at a height so I bend at the knees, grab the handles, and just stand up and the weights clear the cradles. I can just step back or even do curls while still standing in the walk in area.
@adventuremanintheclouds8968 ok that’s way more cool than my “DIY”
Are you able to do a two-handed overhead tricep extension or do the side supports get in the way? Or are the side supports comfortable enough to hold to perform this exercise?
The side supports actually make it much easier to do this exercise and also hammer curls because in both exercises the side supports allow you to use a neutral grip so it’s actually more comfortable than a traditional dumbbell fitting both hands around the dumbbell head
I can’t wait to get mine going with the 125lbs. I have 90lbs power blocks and although they work fine they not heavy enough and they are to blocky. I just couldn’t justify over 2k when I already spent over 10k at rep. Man I’m excited 😆
Awesome! At the “new” price is such a good value for those. I hope you like them as much as I have, I am sure you will.
Q&A:
1. Do these make noise during movement like snatch-to- overhead? I'm not a fan of noisy dumbbells. I've got Core Fitness now, and they're louder than I prefer.
2. Considering any noise in previous question, how much noise does the smaller weight increment attachments make?
3. Can the add-on 1.25 and 2.5 lbs be added onto each side of the hand to balance out the weight?
4. Do you have a link or more info on the NUOBELL upgrade? Given that I've got to switch weight rapidly, a twisting action of the wrist might be best...I just don't want to concern myself with NUOBELL breakage.
1. I will say for movement with normal speeds they are silent, if you are throwing them/moving them really fast/changing gravitational direction quickly then they will have some noise. This is a byproduct of the interlocking weight plates which need some small tolerances in order not to stick
2. The weight increments don’t make any noise because they are “locked” in via a spring pin rather than interlocking like the normal weight plates
3. Yes, they only come in pairs so you put 1.25 on each side for a total of 2.5LB increment and same for 2.5 each side for 5LB increment, so it is completely and evenly balanced.
4. Sorry I am not familiar with Nuobells new upgrade/design but I think GGR just did a recent review, hope you can find the info you are looking for there
what stand are u using? looks perfect - also you should make a set up tour
Thank you, I will definitely be doing a tour in the near future. The stand I talk about in more details in one of my RUclips Shorts, head over to my channel videos to see the one about the stand!
@@TheJungleGymRUclips Thankyou!
Mounting options? Tell more about how you mounted to the rack. Can they be placed or mounted on an angled rack that is usually used for dumbbells?
Hey there, I have a RUclips Shorts video on my main channel that goes over that setup in more detail.
Regarding your second question, I can’t speak to that question since I’ve only ever mounted completely horizontally. I assume they can be placed on an angle dumbbell stand but there might be some impact to racking and unracking with friction between the weights due to the angle. But also probably dependent on how much of a an angle.
Nice review, what is this storage situation you have?
It’s a pair of Crandall Fitness dumbbell spotters holding the Pepin Cradles. They are mounted on a DIY crossmember setup consisting of a couple 16inch REP crossmembers on either side bolted horizontally to my main rack, and some vertical bolted “posts” on top of those crossmembers which are an old Titan crossmember cut in half. Essentially all just to push the dumbbell location to inside the rack, customized to my own height and spacing preference. Maybe I can make a quick walkthrough one of these days of the power rack and dumbbell rack.
@@TheJungleGymRUclips Yeah very creative, unfortunately cutting metal is where my engineering expertise ends haha I ordered the Repins and I debate daily if stray dog powerblock mounts ($$$) would be worth it or to try to rig something myself, nice work though
Did you say the knurling is more aggressive that a Rogue OHP or similar to it? Didn't quite understand the way you phrased it. I'm considering buying these.
Yep, I meant it was more similar to an OPB vs. a normal dumbbell. The volcano knurling (not sure if people would know what that was) has the perfect depth and peak, which feels just my OPB. Most dumbbells I’ve used in my life, even in commercials gym, are more passive
@@TheJungleGymRUclips Nice. These really look like the most durable and affordable adjustables ever created
Is it possible to use straps on these or are the side rails in the way?
You can use straps on these, I have for heavy rows and heavy RDLs.
@@TheJungleGymRUclips thanks!
is it comfortable to do a very extended into flexed wrist curl from range of motion
To be honest I don’t do wrist curls often so I can’t speak too much to it, but I went and tried and you can get a full ROM
@@TheJungleGymRUclips Thank you!
Do the weight selector pins stay fixed without worry of moving?
Oh yeah, it’s “locked” in and spring loaded. And Even if you push the selector pin out, you would have to also simultaneously slide the selector down the rail and overcome a lot of weight/friction force in order to lose any weight plates. you would have to have a 2 point failure which is practically impossible
Nice review! How do you find using the 5lb weight plate increments?
They work great, I have no issues or complaints whatsoever with them. They don’t change the feel or the weight distribution of the dumbbell, And they definitely don’t fall off or anything…
Where do you store the 5lbs adder weights when not in use? Is there a spot for them in the cradle?
There is not a spot for them on the cradle. I have some hitch pins nearby that they sit on, since they have a “U” shaped cutout and slot right on top of the hitch pins. Band pegs would also work
I have these too! They’re great
My issues:
Sometimes the plates get stuck. I pull out 20 pounds and one of the first plates gets stuck.
The labels are a little off centered, and I’m not always sure I’m grabbing what I need to grab
The plates will fly off sometimes too.
I am sorry to hear that, that has not been any of my experience whatsoever. Have you reached out to Pépin for any suggestions on the plates sticking or flying off as you say? I can’t imagine David would be able to help you if you sent a video. They have a lifetime warranty too
I have these too and have none of those experiences
What stand are you using? At the 2:30 mark
It’s a DIY stand using some Crandall Fitness dumbbell spotters. I just posted a RUclips Shorts clip on my channel with more details!
Rep x pepin is only available starting end of Sept at earlier, that's crazy wait time that's likely 6 months wait
Yep they have a rolling time frame for pre-orders. While filming this video I think it was July/August timeframe. Still worth the wait
I pre irdered the rep version. I hate that i have to wait till Sept.
The wait will be worth it for the long run. Stay strong in your patience! Let me know how you like them once you get them
What inpsire machine is that behind you?
Inspire SF3 it’s the smith machine/trainer combo. Have had it for 2 years and love that too. Eventually I plan to do a long term review of that’s one too
@@TheJungleGymRUclips I can't wait for it to come out. I have to look into this one, I originally wanted an SCS but got the FT2 because of space in my store!
@michaelmarcano9200 my buddy snagged a great deal on the FT2, I already have a lat pull so I only needed cable crossover. This was before REP and everyone started making rack integrated functional trainers
Crazy to not once mention the starting weight or weight increments on an adjustable dumbbell review.
Hey, I think that’s a fair point. In trying to keep my videos short compared to a lot of the other gym equipment creators, I am leaving technical details to a minimum for people to check our product specs on the corresponding website(s). That being said I will consider adding some basic info in the coming reviews, thanks for watching.
What did you use to mount them to your rack? I've got my set on a dumbbell stand, and the only thing I don't like about them is the positioning of removing/returning them from the cradle when they get heavy. Being able to mount them to a rack and stand between them would be a game changer!
Check out my channel, I posted a RUclips Shorts video about it! It is really just dependent on the height of the dumbbell stand/rack you have them on.
I'm still not a fan of these compared to NUO DUMBELLS. They take three times longer to adjust, and I think trying to bale out of a heavy bench press can be a little dangerous with the exterior bars. Nuo is coming out with a much more heavy-duty 90 lb dumbbell this year and said they're releasing a semi-commercial dumbbell at the end of the year. I'll take that over these.
These are more heavy duty, go heavier, and don’t take that long to adjust. If you’re not wanting to lift more then 90 then sure you have no need to get these.
Nuos blow.
These are super fast to adjust, what are you talking about?
Nuos suck compared to the Pepins. They are a toy compared to how the Pepins are designed, materials used, and built.
There is no comparison. These blow nuobells out of the water.
This isn’t so much a review as a sycophantic advert
There is an indian who re uploaded your video. I think you should strike it. There is no transformative content just re upload.
Hey thanks for the heads up, I can’t find it. Would you mind going to my channel page > about tab, and emailing me the link?
