Good presentation! Only one complaint: the question DO WE NEED RATING AGENCIES? is not answered explicitly. As the presenter says at 13:50, "call a spade a spade"-- rating agencies are opportunistically inefficient, to put it charitably. In the case of Portugal, the rating agencies have overplayed their hand, downgrading that sovereign debt gratuitously, distortioning the financial market against the government, which lost a parliamentary vote of no confidence as a result of the rating!
Waste of video. This video overlooked the biggest issues of all. I pay you to inspect me? Come on if that is not a recipe for fraud i don't know. Just have the buyer pay them. Also he says the agency is just giving their opinions. Really? People spending that much money for an (opinion) yeah right. If anyone believes that then i've got a bridge to sell you.

For actual monetarily sovereign issuers of securities, it is most certainly *not* "taxpayers" who pay off or service those debt securities.
