According to Dictionary.com, Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) is a calming, pleasurable feeling often accompanied by a tingling sensation. This tingle is said to originate in a person’s head and spread to the spine (and sometimes the limbs) in response to stimulation. The stimuli that trigger ASMR vary from person to person. Some of the most common ones include whispers, white noise, lip smacking, having a person’s complete attention (as in having one’s hair cut by a hairdresser), as well as brushing, chewing, tapping, scratching, and crinkling. ~

@@pedrohodl No, no, no. This is wrong on a multitude of levels. First of all, why on Earth are you taking these seriously?! Secondly, I'm not American. Thirdly, Brazil is not on the same continent as the States; Brazil is in South America, the USA is in North America, and I'm in neither. Fourthly, it's not just Brazilian Portuguese. Fifthly, my comment about the bicycle being "really far away" was a reference to the tube making the noise sound far away, not the physical proximity of the bicycle. Sixthly, if the bicycle is in Brazil, I still think that's adequate for qualifying as "really far away"; I mean how far away could you possibly hear this bicycle?! Seventhly, WHY ARE YOU TAKING THESE SERIOUSLY?!

So, words that you hear or say too much and they start sounding weird is something called "semantic satiation", where the word starts to be disassociated from the meaning conceptually within your head (literally). Hearing or speaking the word too much triggers the same neurons in rapid-fire (since we remember words and their meanings in specific patterns of neurons different to each individual but they'll always be the same neurons for the same individual), and your brain literally restricts/shuts off the connection to let the neurons rest as a form of reactive inhibition to prevent overstressing them.
