Nice explanation, but I have one doubt when we use google takeout then what will happen to the metadata? Does it will retain dates and other details on apple photos as well?

When u download on phone and upload to icloud in background the optimize storage will not optimise the downloaded photos. So if u have a lot of photos or videos and ur phone storage is less than that, its going to be an issue. Just fyi.

Does this method ensure the metadata of the images from Google photos remains intact in iCloud too?

Good question! Don’t want to be resetting dates and locations for all photos.

In my case I got an zip file with photos and metadata separately. I don't know what to do with it now. and there are 30 gigabytes of photos and videos there

And when you have 50 GB of photos, what will it be like then? It will take 1 month to download

Can I upload non jpeg files using the first method? For example, videos and pngs?
