The Rolex Series returns to the DP World Tour as The Renaissance Club hosts the Genesis Scottish Open. This year is the third time this event has been co-sanctioned with the PGA TOUR as 75 players from both tours will compete. Rory McIlroy returns to defend his title and make his first appearance since his runner-up finish at the U.S. Open. McIlroy the claimed Hero Dubai Desert Classic earlier this year and was victorious in the Wells Fargo Championship on the PGA Tour in May. Since then, he hasn't finished worse than tied 15th, which includes a tied 12th at the US PGA Championship and the solo second finish at Pinehurst. Tommy Fleetwood will also be teeing it up in Scotland. Across his last four starts in this event, the world number 11 has finished in the top ten on three occasions and missed out on victory in a play-off against Aaron Rai in 2020. He also claimed 3T at the Masters and has been no worse than a tie for 26th in his last six starts. Ludvig Åberg is in the field this week. The Swede brilliantly claimed 2T on his Masters debut in April and played well for a 12T finish at the US Open three weeks ago. Others to look out for include Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa and Viktor Hovland.
Welcome to the Official RUclips channel of the DP World Tour. Every week you can find extended tournament highlights and individual player highlights from the likes of Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood. This is also the home of the 14 Club Challenge, Little Interviews, Fastest Hole and many more challenges, pranks and world record attempts featuring the biggest golfers in the world.

If just one tournament each year was hickory and persimmon based….. we would know who the purest ball strikers are…..and golf courses of 6500 yards would be relevant again….. a win win for golf ⛳️

What I learned to play on. My grandpa had a set, next to the pinup calendars in the garage. Year 2000. Maybe 1999-1998.

One of the clubs I learnt the game with when I was young was a hickory Mashie Niblick (7 iron-ish). Best club I have ever had and I could play all sorts of shots with it.

That was fun to see. I don't hit my hickories as far as those guys, but it certainly narrows the gap compared to the distance gap with modern clubs. It would be great to see some of them play a 9 hole Hickory comp.

Just about all pro sports have equipment rules that are different from what the public is allowed to purchase . Men's golf and men's tennis could benefit from some of these restrictions.

It would be a lot harder with traditional golf balls of the day.

Yes, it is. I use early 1900s replica balls and those 240 yard drives become 200 yards, maybe 220 at best. Full shots still spin a bit and stop OK, but chips and pitches are all 'land and run' shots. You van add a least 1 extra shot on most par 4s and 5s, too.

Well if you wanted a clear answer to does the equipment and materials help in sports today, i think theres your answer, its the same in football, tennis, snooker, athletics, cycling, boats, probably the least effected by tools and surfaces is boxing.

Does this show how good players were in the past when the equipment was not as developed. Could it be that the development of the players apart from equipment is at the same level or maybe worse?

Not much room for error. This is why the old time players are still better than these guys. No giant sweet spots, mega flex etc. Solid wood, metal and a sweet spot the size of a dime and they made the ball do their bidding.
