The concept of precision rectification is explored in this video. Precision rectifier circuits are not used for power conversion but are instead employed in signal processing applications.

And sometimes we just want to measure a RMS or peak to peak value of a sine wave at, say, 25kHz, reasonably accurately when most meters give up, and 8 bit scopes just don't cut it.
