How long will I have to be treated for ascites?

I have humongous stomach only from ascites from malnutrition. I don't have cirrhosis. Will the Dr. still do paracentesis, because I cant breath or eat correctly from the pressure? Also, will diuretics empty this fluid out of my stomach area?
