  • Rameshwore Khanal is a Distinguished Fellow at the Institute for Integrated Development Studies (IIDS). A former Finance Secretary of Nepal, he led reforms in governmental accounting, reporting, public procurement, and tax policy. He also held board positions in institutions like NRB, NEA, NTC, and Nepal Airlines.
    During his remarks, Mr. Khanal highlighted some of Nepal's key contemporary macroeconomic issues. In addition, he emphasized how overall stability in macroeconomic conditions at the federal and provincial levels remains crucial for helping provinces and a nation as a whole to improve overall economic conditions, including improvements in the competitiveness performance of the provinces.
    The Nepal Competitiveness Index (NCI) is a collaborative effort of the Nepal Institute for Policy Research (NIPoRe) and the Asia Competitiveness Institute (ACI) at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore. It ranks Nepal's provincial governments based on the analysis carried out across a set of indicators, environments, and the most prominent thematic focus area.
