At the risk of sounding (very) old: I WAS THERE. And this is one of my favorite sets of all time: his scratching into Technasia (14 min) is one of the best things I’ve ever heard a DJ do. Props to the master, the Bambaata aus West Deutschland. And, as some previous commenters noted, this was way before Final Scratch and computers and Ableton Live etc. That to me makes the performance all the more gutsy: when was the last time you saw a DJ putting a finger on a spinning record before thousands of people? Color me nostalgic, but this is a set for the ages. Thanks for putting it up!

vroniefan2000 der Zug ist abgefahren.. schau dir mal an, was imotion aus der Mayday gemacht hat.. sie haben sie zugrunde gerichtet.. all dass, was Westbam mit seinem Team unter der Flagge von lowspirit bis 2006 aufgebaut hat, hat imotion zertrümmert und eine Art indoor nature one daraus gemacht.. von der wahren ursprünglichen Mayday, was Mayday einzigartig machte ist leider verschwunden.. es war damals ein fester kultureller Pflicht Termin, Tanz in den Mai in den heiligen Westfalenhallen zu sein und den Höhepunkt der members of mayday mit gleich gesinnten zu zelebrieren, als man sich nach Ende eines Dj sets, zb Westbam, Mauro picotto usw umdrehte und es nahtlos auf der zweiten Bühne weiterging.. Das war noch Mayday.. aber für kommerz, Kirmes und rtl2 möchtegern DjRobin Schulz, der sich wahrscheinlich nie mit der Szene befasst hat und jetzt meint die Mayday zu beschallen. ist für mich ein Grund niemals mehr nach Dortmund zu pilgern.. der Name Mayday, müsste umbenannt werden in indoor-one oder so.. eine Schande, das der Name Mayday noch weiter verwendet werden darf..
im Grunde hast du recht, aber etwas kommerziell war die Mayday vorher auch schon, z.B.: 1995 als Mark'Oh aufgelegt hat! Oder Marusha hat zeitweise auch etwas massentauglicher aufgelegt als sie in die Menge reingebrüllt hat, Mitte der 90er wurden DJs sogar als Popstars angesehen was eigentlich auch nie Ziel der Mayday war! Marketing (vorallem T-Shirts) war damals bei Mayday auch sehr angesagt!
@@Jetix1987 natürlich möchte man mit dem was man tut auch ein wenig Geld verdienen. Das war früher so und ist auch heute so. Ich gebe Technofan vollkommen recht damit, was er schreibt. Seitdem die Amis auf das Boot aufgesprungen sind und Techno in EDM umgewandelt haben, ist es heller und kommerzieller geworden. Ich bin froh, die dunklen Hallen mit Laser- und Strobogewittern erlebt zu haben!!! Und eines noch: Marusha hat schon immer ins Micro gebrüllt um die Menge in Wallung zu bringen, das hat sie schon bei save DT64 gemacht, dem Techno-Radio-Sender aus Berlin.

zizitop901 well, when it comes to kraftwerk - i'm well aware of theirs and share mutual friends with their former member / short-term contributor michael rother, better known for his work in neu! and harmonia, who played with the band in the period between their first two albums, and our paths have crossed a few times. when it comes to "i feel love" i highly disagree on it being the first techno track as it is, although being mostly repetetive and electronically produced, clearly to be seen in the vein and context of disco. i'm not doubting the impact and influence the tune has had on the production of techno music later but, and also due to the dramatic vocals, is to be seen as a different take on disco. when it comes to the first clearly identifiable techno track i'd go to model500 "no ufos" released in 1985. although "techno city" was released a year earlier and defo a formative tune in terms of coining the genre term techno itself, the use of strings and electric guitars still connect this one to disco and even, in the way guitars are used, progrock whilst the radical, totally artificial aspect is way more evident in "no UFOS". when it comes to the term techno please keep in mind that the german dj talla 2xlc, also known for his work in the industrial group bigod20, moskwa tv and robotiko rejecto, established his clubnight 'techno club' at frankfurts venue dorian gray back in 1984 - a night which exclusively featured electropop, synthpop and EBM in the beginning and later incorporated nubeat, house music and early techno as soon as these styles emerged. knowledge ;)
