    here in 2024, just after Momota's retirement. sadly, he could not recover his form after the car accident in Malaysia 2020. we will never know what heights he would have gone on to achieve. miss you dearly Momota san, all the best in all your future endeavours...

    Can’t stop watching Momota Kento’s games before the accident. Now, when he retired. I miss him so much on court. He taught us how to be the absolute king, adored by the whole world, and how to be humble about that, peacefully enjoying it. And how to live when all of that was taken from you by the pure accident. And how to be happy and still enjoy life.
    Now we can imagine “what if…” scenarios and understand that Momota-san would have become unbeatable for maybe a decade with all according medals and trophies. But it seems to me but even during his short reign, he proved everything. His footwork, precision, defense and of course the confidence. To my mind, he is unmatched.

    This game reminds me of the 2004 Olympic final Taufik vs. Shon Seung Mo. Shi barely played any backcourt clear at all the whole game, knowing that Momota has an edge on the control and placement. Instead, Shi tried to push the shuttle down and played close net all the time. This was exactly the same mistake Shon made 14 years ago. You can't give up moving your opponent around even if you know your opponent has better control skills.

    A full credit to Momota Kento! Looking at his previous suspension, making him to serve as a back stage staff for his team, doing net adjustment for his teammates' matches, assists in training school kids and things like that, his mental toughness, desire and passionate for badmintion have then rewarded him the world crown. He should be appreciated and respected despite his wrong-doing in the past. Moreover, his humbleness and modest attitude on and off the court is also something to be learned by the younger athletes.

    Momoto has superb footwork, body balance and excellent deception. Shuqi had difficulty reading Momoto's smooth deception. Also, Shuqi had problems with his right side in retrieving Momoto's drop net shots. Often Shuqi was off balance performing hopping strides to return Momoto's drop shots from below net. In this game I have to say that Shuqi was outclassed. As for Shuqi, he did not play his aggressive style, instead he was feeding Momoto with strokes. Shuqi's strategy played into Momoto's game style.

      People gamble every where, and every one has both good and bad; and I don't think gambling is generally bad; it's just bad when it has gone to the point of addictions. Even addiction to sugar would give diabetes, is in-taking sugar bad then? Japan is just one of the countries that have a few weird traditions that are outdated in today world, and they are just too proud too see the good side of certain things that have became great entertainment in this time and age. People gamble for the fun of it and release stresses, too, not only about winning and losing.

  • @pspcfl
    @pspcfl 6 лет назад +26

    I believe in the future the Chinese team needs sport psychologists to work with main coaches. Mental strength is an important part of the game and as far as I could hear the content of the Chinese coaches are always more focused on technical issues (tactics) without concerning much about the players under such high pressures. I believe very often the instruction from the coaches would not help much, but only put even more pressure on players, especially when the score and performance (consistency) is behind the other player.
    Consistency is a sign of confidence under huge pressure. Chinese players need to learn or at least to be taught how to maintain that.

    • @vertie2090
      @vertie2090 6 лет назад +4

      True, but they have the natural king of all that, Lin Dan. Perhaps he was just born a winner, hard to say what kind of psychological coaching they get

    • @edwardchen7228
      @edwardchen7228 6 лет назад

      I certainly agree that psychological status in important, but I really doubt whether it can be easily trained. I feel it's part of player's talent. On the other hand, I do think the coach needs to learn how to behave properly to avoid putting more pressure on the players. I remember Xia Xuanze did a very poor job in He Bingjiao's match against Marine.

    • @dmitriysintsov8348
      @dmitriysintsov8348 6 лет назад

      The coach of LCW told in the interview that Lin Dan is naturally gifted with consistency and the resistance. So perhaps that is more his own personal gift than a coaching result. Momota is rumored to be very consistent and dominating during the play.

    Yes, in a way it was disappointing - there was almost no suspense. But then, you have to realize Momota's great superiority over his opponents. Not only he obviously has more stamina than SY, but also he's much more used to the pressure : just remember he used to be a hard gambler in casinos, hence his one-year suspension. This is a crucial factor that hasn't been mentioned. The only way he gave up to pressure was during the match against Antonsen - look at his body language. But even there, he never lost his composture completely. Another thing to take into consideration, which derives from his suspension, is that his motivation is not only to become world number 1, world champion but also to REDEEM himself. There is this whole culture of honor in Japan, which is also essential to his victory. From this point of view, SY is only a child compared to Momota, even if they are of the same age. On a different level, can someone explain to me the ridiculous flower crowns they got on the podium ? See 1:04:47

    Shi Yu Qi hasn't got the defensive skills like Momota who can return all the powerful, accurate smashes from his opponents. It is his stance and footwork that helped him to defend like this, a cut above the rest in defending. Excellent attacking when he needed to and his net playing is legendary, his fitness - out of this world. Nothing to do with Shi yu qi play. Shi could have used any strategy today and would still get thrashed. Shi Qi is a great player and could have been a legend in his own right but unfortunately he is in the same generation as Momota. Shi Qi was just up against the most intelligent, skilful , fit and mentally strong player I have ever seen in the game of badminton. Now that Momota has won the first big title I hope he will go on to surpass even Lindan, who by the way in my opinion is no where near as amazing as Momota, even in his prime. Only time will tell if he can do it but certainly has all the attributes to be the best player ever.

      Wait until momota gets:
      - 2 olympic gold medals
      - 5 world champions

But If you read my original text again I did say with Momota only time will tell... Momota is extremely fit with out of this world defence (by the way he is more of a defensive player than LD), great net playing and powerful smashes when he uses them and mentally solid. I prefer watching him to Lin Dan. Will he achieve more than LD? Again, only time will tell. Not easy of course. Do I know badminton? I have represented my county buddy. Best regards

    I came here because I miss Shi Yuqi’s matches on court but turn out that most all of these comments are disgusting.
    Why Shi Yuqi can easily beat Lin Dan and Chen Long? That is because they’re teammates and they already knew their styles of playing, obviously. They even trained together so you can just simply read your opponent’s strategy. I’m very sure it was not fixes.
    Then, why Shi Yuqi lost easily in this match? It is because (maybe) Momota played much better. It just the matter of any sports- one should win and one should loss.
    Well, I believe Shi Yuqi deserved to be the finalist here after going through all the tournaments. Shi can still beat Momota if he played better. Proof? Please watch World Tour Finals 2018, he beat Momota😎 Proof again? Please watch Sudirman Cup 2019, again he beat Momota😎
    Conclusion, both of them are great and deserved to be in the Final of World Championship 2018 instead of everyone else😎🙄

  • @EvilBambo0

    Very disappointing for all of us expecting a good game, unlike Axelson who chokes and give in mentally himself, Shi lost because of bad strategy set by the Chinese coaching squad. Shi likes to play aggressive smashing game yet they are making him play the 4 corners against Momota, avoiding net play and tried to outrun or force mistakes from Momota. This worked for against the relatively overworked TW player in the dramatic comeback but Momota is way more consistent. Shi could have gone better without the bad coaching advice, poor guy was still trying to follow orders near the end of the second game and Shi lost his touch in his smashes because of the nerves and slow rhythm.

    • @peterhammer6915
      @peterhammer6915 6 лет назад +1

      2b 1a....I agree. And also on his backcourtforehand he left the shuttle really low and hit it without being properly under the ball. There were many great opportunities for smashes, too. He just hit back a soft clear of dropshot.

      honestly, Momota seems to be tired in this match, actually in this whole tournament. If you compare against how he constantly attacked really heavily against LCW in Indonesia. Amazing he could play defensive like this and still take the crown

    • @jordanchai7313
      @jordanchai7313 6 лет назад +1

      No, thats just play style against certain players. Same way how coaches tell you to play differently for different players. Its Play styles. LCW and LD has a play style of playing long rallies and try to win the point with minimal effort/energy. If Kento plays the same patience game with LCW, he's gonna bound to lose because LCW has way more experience than Kento. Coaches can also create new strategies to counter Kento's playing style; such as the match against Denmark Anderson. He's the only player in the whole tournament to give Kento a 3 set match. That's simply because their coach found a strategy to give kento a harder time to play the game.

    • @jordanchai7313
      @jordanchai7313 6 лет назад +4

      I understand what you're trying to say but the reason why Shi and his coach was doing so was simply because in the Previous match where Kento faced Anderson of Denmark. He's the only player to give Kento a 3 set match in the whole tournament. With that said, if you did watch that match, you would realise that Anderson played a game where he would avoid the net, constantly lifting the shuttle to the back and forcing Kento to play a unusual play style. In the end, Kento won simply because he had higher Stamina and Endurance. If Anderson had hgiher stamina and Endurance than Kento, I'm pretty sure Kento wouldn't be in the finals today. Yes, Shi may have gone better without the "Bad Coaching" but he still his coach and you gotta follow what he says because he's the one give advice and training you to become world champion. Plus, I'm pretty sure If Shi didn't follow his coach's orders then his coach would neglet him during training or something where maybe he won't even get to play much tournament in the future. So you gotta understaind that players can'y just not follow their coach orders and what not.
