Yeah I'm not a Margoyles fan. But she's definitely excellent in this. I do however LOVE anything and everything Michelle Gomez does. And Natalie Casey is usually a delight. Shame it didn't become a series. But it looks like it fell victim to the 'told the entire story in the pilot.. so there was nothing left to make a series about' syndrome.
The heavy canned laughter is distracting, it’s a comedy I want to like and laugh along to.. but they’ve got so manic with the audience laughter, you’re not given an opportunity to digest the jokes.
Nothing screams "lack of confidence in our show" than buckets of canned laughter. You literally can't hear the first lines spoken by one of the main characters.
They probably had canned laughter because it was the pilot of the show, so perhaps this was the pitch and it simply did not get off the ground. Also it would make sense because without people who were fans of the show, they couldn't film in front of a live studio audience. I'll be honest, I enjoyed the show the first time I watched it because I wasn't thinking about the laughter, I was more concerned with the story...... now all I can think about is the laughter.......
I watched the show once, not knowing what canned laughter was, and I liked it. Now I scroll down to the comments and I'm horrified.... I can't unhear the laughter and not think about how they're all dead and its just a track. This has changed my view of sitcoms forever....
Ooft, this was not good. The younger actress (don't know her name) was great because she played everything very straight but Miriam... wtf? I'm a huge fan of Miriam Margolyes (sp?) but she was shite in this. Completely overracting. And how the audience dissolves into hysteria after her slightest eye movement makes me pray it's canned laughter and not an audience because that would make me lose my faith in humanity.
The writer must be unemployed after this . So many themes are outdated laughing fake crowd is old school starting off a comedy is very dark to start off a series for a beginner. you get the crowd remembering all the funerals they have been to then you make jokes sad.
Missy and Meep!
Michelle and Miriam both do exceptional "northern".
"Lancashire" to be exact...
I would of loved to have seen a series of this
Oh wow, thank you!! How come I’ve never heard of this?
Ahhh I need more of this!! Thanks for sharing!
How did I not know this was a thing?!
Michelle Gomez with a northern accent tho
You know Scotland is in the North right?
whars with the raucous laughter at sod all ?
Wow! Two tom cats fighting on a fence sound a lot better than that bugle!
Susan Nickson is my sister.
Are there any more episodes of this
The laughter track is a mistake i think, it's not meant to be funny ha-ha,
Agreed. Not necessary at all.

I love all the actresses, but this is one of those shows that can't work out how to mix humour with sentimentality.

Right? And if it were in front of a live audience they wouldn't laugh at that line, maybe a chuckle
Canned laughter is horrible .. literally dead people laughing. Ruins shows, glad it's a thing of the past
