Thanks for the video. John, could a person use wood glue with this technique? Do you recommend doing this on fragile boards before or after using infrared to strip the paint? Thank you!
I would use a "type 1" weatherproof adhesive (such as TiteBond III) after stripping. But keep in mind that I do not recommend using any high-heat dry-heat method (like infrared, hot-air gun or open flame) directly on standing buildings because of the fire risk. I do use infrared on building parts that are removed and worked on in the shop where the situation and fire risk is more under control.
Here I'm using a mixture of an epoxy consolidant (Abatron LiquidWood) and an epoxy paste filler (Abatron WoodEpox). The West System also has some good gap filling epoxy adhesives suitable for exterior woodwork.
