That was no argument! That was an exceptionally interesting and educational conversation and frankly I think I enjoyed it much more than I would have a real argument. 😆

John Cadogan is well respected and can formulate a well thought out arguement and back it up with facts, knowledge and experience. He makes a lot of points that directly contradict with the mindset of the average 4x4 enthusiast, including ASPW. If anyone is a perfect example of a rolling showroom 4x4 that never is used to it's full potential, it's (unfortunately) the vehicles of ASPW. However it's these things that make the business of 4XOverland marketable. The perfect example of this was John Cadogan's engineering viewpoint on fitting 4x4 bullbars in the consumer market backed up by BHP with all their money who concluded bullbars provide no real protection to passengers and decided to leave vehicle safety up to the manufactures. John explained why bullbars are usless for anything except an animal strike. I agree very much so on John's viewpoints regarding accessories and voiding manufacturers warranty. I think this could be illustrated by the brake disc change 4XOverland experienced after roughly 10,000kms and Toyota turned around and declined 4XOverlands warranty. Which was probably a blow to ye old pride more than anything. I'm surprised John had nothing else to do today.

1:19:00 - John talking about sport crossing into driving is 100% correct. People with no concept of anticipation on the roads.
The best example is in Africa, where poorer folk grow up with no sport AND no car in the family. That means they NEVER sit in the front of a car growing up, only go in a bus or a minibus taxi were they get no exposure to driver decisions.
The other place it shows is crossing the road, getting 2/3 over, and turning to run back to safety rather than skip over the last third when a car is close.

The reason why no argument happened, is exactly why I follow both these channels... Not just bogans arguing for views!

Kununurra has a secret compound to put trial vehicles away from prying eyes when the road tests are complete for the night. It almost always in use during the build up and 45 degrees every day.

Listening to "two old farts having a chat" is so much more entertaining than most of the BS woke offerings by the "media" these days. Your previous chat was amazing, informative and showed the depth of life experience you both have. Sitting around a camp fire with the pair of you having a chat would be sheer bliss. A Monty Python argument would be amazing...

Perhaps the first thing a new 4WD'er should do is go on a 4WD course and learn what the vehicle they bought can do without spending their superannuation at some after market shop.
As a tank crewman I was stunned when I did my Land Rover course with a Perentie 110 in terms of where it could go and terrain it could negotiate.

yeah nah, it's better to listen to their mate Johnno because he's got a sick 79 with all the gear he'll never use. Trying to make an engineering decision is too hard.

My gf bought a 2014 santa fe at the height of used car prices a year or so ago. It had 100k on the clock. It went limp mode and needed 4quarts! The motor was recalled and replaced in 2018, so the new motor blew up after some 60k on the clock. I thought she was screwed because her last oil change was 6k ago, even though she still had a few months left on the 1 year warranty that the VW dealer that sold her the car had given her.
Hyundai honored that warranty, gave her a new engine, a new turbo and for some reason a new starter too!
I was stunned and certain we were screwed but the warranty actually specified 7500mi oil change intervals. Wtf??

But surely, the manufacturer who makes 4x4s must understand that add-ons are normal. So why don't they actually provide a set of guidelines about the sort of stuff that does and does not void warranties. Yes John!

My Exhaust sensor wire broke while the car was just 12 months old, I was told it is a know fault so will fix it, then they said we can not fix it because you have installed spot lights on the bull bar and the wires cross over the top of our wiring harness so they nul and voided the warranty ... what a load of crap

Adding non factory parts voiding warranty… again, more reason the Grenadier becomes value for dollar. Factory fitted accessories covered by 5 year warranty. Easy choice.

Well, I looked at the electrical optional accessory bank and it has no split charger and a huge AGM battery that's only 105A/h. That's just 50A/h usable power. Not very much. Only really suitable as a jump starter which can be bought for $500. An expensive accessory that in my mind has little value.

@@overlandworkshop I can buy a jump pack at Costco for $50. I think maybe the 2nd battery has a little more value than that.

Also why don't they engineer these 4x4s to take account of the after-market needs. I take my 4x4 bush. Have manufacturers never heard of Kangaroos, Camels, Bulls and so on.
