Well, for more than one decade I tried so many tutorials and workarounds to achieve something like that, but it never was as perfect as your idea! Since many of your steps are well fixed, I put it all to an Action-Automation and now finally can quickly create awesome comic strips! Thanks so much!!
Sir: Thank you much, for the privilege of your time and tutorial. Straightforward with a professional intent to inform and teach - NOT preach. Please do not stop. R
Very good, straightforward technique and well-presented. I applied it to a nude and found the banding to be a bit harsh. I softened that using surface blur and some other techniques. Turned out great.
threshold won't remain where I slide it to, it reverts back to 128 every time. "grab the brush, grab the white." wish this was this simple for me, but for some strange reason, when I go to do this the brush tool changes to the dropper.
i am using adobe Photoshop cc 2017 but here i could not found oil paint in filter.i also search in stylize but here oil pain option did not work.so can you plz suggest me what i can do for get a similar result?

Messed up the first time (wasn't paying attention to the layer I was in), went back tried again and it came out much better than I hoped! Thank you.
Finally, I did my first cartoon by following your tutorial and I like it. Thank you so much.
At 2:54 it looks like such a clean black and white image. Crazy good.

Oh no fat fingers again. That is going to drive me mad now hahahah
Very nice method ... lot better (and quicker) than using a pen for the outline ... Thanks for posting this
Thank you! Does this way work on low resolution photos?
Give it a go should work but depends how low res.
Cool. How can I do the same in PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 14?
I can't find the "THRESHOLD" mode in IMAGE...
Very Nice Tutorial, Thank you so much

but I dont have the "Oil Paint" filter to smoothen the lines.
What else can I use to smoothen them out?
Filter > Stylize > Oil Paint:
In this particular photo are you using 300 resolution. If I’m using lower or higher resolution would I get the same effect?
Great tutorial. Thank you!

Have you looked under the "Filter > Stylise" menu option? That's where mine is.
You are awesome!!

Hi, don´t have Oil paint filter here, what i can do for get a similar result? :)
try checking filter>stylize>oil paint and see if it's there. I thought I didn't have it either.
I use CS5 & don´t have it there. Try to install, but it´s a pain... Never get ready :)
Appreciate the clarification. That's exactly where it is in CC.
I am using CC 2015 but still I do not have the same. Unfortunately tried to install but failed twice.
For me Oil Paint filter was under Stylize section (Photoshop 2025)
but how do i save it
Thank you!
