  • Lynmouth is a seaside holiday village below Lynton on the coast of North Devon, England. It is situated at the bottom of a steep valley and is surrounded by hills, cliffs, and the sea, making it a perfect destination for those seeking a peaceful and scenic retreat. Here are some reasons why you should visit Lynmouth:
Natural Beauty: Lynmouth is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, with stunning coastal scenery, rugged cliffs, and lush green hills. Visitors can enjoy long walks along the South West Coast Path, which provides panoramic views of the Bristol Channel and the surrounding countryside.
Watersports: Lynmouth is also a popular destination for water sports enthusiasts. The village is situated at the mouth of the East Lyn River, which provides a perfect location for kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding. Visitors can also enjoy fishing, surfing, and swimming in the sea.
History and Heritage: Lynmouth has a rich history and is home to several interesting historic sites, such as the Lynmouth Pavilion and Lynmouth Flood Memorial Hall. The village is also known for its traditional thatched cottages and buildings that have been preserved for hundreds of years, providing a glimpse into the past.
Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway: The cliff railway is one of the most popular attractions in Lynmouth. The railway connects the village with the town of Lynton, offering visitors a unique and exciting way to travel between the two locations. The railway has been in operation for over 100 years and is the steepest and longest water-powered railway in the world.
Local Food and Drink: Lynmouth is home to a variety of cafes, restaurants, and pubs that serve delicious local food and drink. Visitors can enjoy fresh seafood, local ales, and cider while taking in the stunning coastal views.
In conclusion, Lynmouth is a charming village that offers a unique blend of natural beauty, history, and outdoor activities. Whether you are interested in exploring the area's natural wonders, learning about its history and heritage, or simply relaxing and enjoying the local food and drink, Lynmouth has something for everyone.

Thank you Neil. I've visited lynmouth many times and never failed to enjoy it's beauty. As a foot note, my parents had just returned home a week after their honeymoon when that terrible disaster struck,
the flood, it took away the guest house they had previously stayed in.

Lynmouth has to be one of my favourite places, love it. I always remember the huge steep hill coming from porlock as well, then the drop down from the moors down into Lynmouth.

Another lovely piece thank you I’ve visited both Lynmouth and Lynton both for pleasure and work ,lovely places .I seem to remember somewhere along the front there was an r.n.l.I plaque with the older call outs listed ,remember it was pretty impressive. Saw in the comments somebody wasn’t impressed with the roads ,surely that’s part of the fun little roads, steep hills and pop out to see lovely views and places below you

Only been to Lynmouth once 50 years ago on our honeymoon trip around the South West in September 1972, my parents had been there in the summer and gave us good places to stay.
I have photos of the tower and views towards the town where we parked, we also took the ride up to Lynton and back.
Unfortunately in the days of 35 millimetre chemical film you had to set the ISO and I got it wrong resulting in all our photos of our trip being over exposed.
Fortunately modern technology has allowed me to digitise all my slides and to some extent improve them although they are far from perfect.

    Still such a beautiful visit.
Did you walk around Watersmeet back up the hills where all the local rivers meet & the creation of the flooding waters

I'm sure it's nice in summer but looks a cold hole to me. How much sun does the place see? Living there could be a challenge, possible flooding and constant noise of the river would be a bit much day in, day out.🤔
