    If there are any SVT sufferers watching the video, don't get wigged out and think you have heart failure if you have SVT episodes. SVTs have many causes, even being glutened if you have celiac disease, being dehydrated, and irritated stomach, etc. If you had heart failure you would have other symptoms like fatigue, swollen ankles, etc.

    i had/ have svt. i had an ablation when i was 15. actually twice. they couldn't find it the first try. they went in the arteries in my groin, arm, and chest. I had the first "attack " while playing soccer. my heart was beating 280 bmp. i could see my shirt moving. since my ablation I've been fine. thank you Dr falco. knock on wood. its nice to know its common and easily repaired. thoughts and prayers for those who are looking at this video because you or a loved one has been diagnosed with SVT.

    I have svt here is a tip to fellow svt sufferers, don't drink alcohol it triggers episodes stay away from stimulants of any kind, and learn to accept that it won't kill you like VT can. Relax

    • @91crazygal
      @91crazygal 7 лет назад +4

      This isn't always true, it depends on the type of svt.
      I was diagnosed at 15 with svt. There wasn't anything in particular that would trigger it, it was the way my heart was structured.
      I was rushed to hospital with my heart beating at 250bpm.
      I had an ablation to try to correct the issue but it failed leading to open hear surgery.
      I was told by my cardiologist I was lucky they caught it in time as another severe episode could have resulted in my death.

    Don't forget that in SVT (if it reached >150), can cause the cardiac muscles won't reached the maximum contractility that can cause insufficient preload that results low cardiac output.
    Now we're talking the real SYMPTOMS that related with that:
    1. Hypotension (since low cardiac output may affect the stroke volume)
    2. Altered mental status (insufficient blood perfusion to brain)
    3. Sign of shock (insufficient blood perfusion to multiple organ)
    4. Chest discomfort (some diabetic patient won't complaint any pain, Possibly with CAD. Identity with SAMPLE )
    5. Acute heart failure (possibly related with CAD. Identify with SAMPLE)
    Any sign of the above lists, even only one, required SYNCHRONIZED CARDIOVERSION treatment. Simply to lowdown the heart rate.

    This is the hottest topic in my work. We have constant continuing education on SVT and how it's misdiagnosed as SVT when it's pseudotachycardia.
    If you give someone in pseudotachycardia antiarrhythmic medicine it won't work and isn't a good idea.

    Any lecture on "SVT" should discuss what it actually is. 90% of sudden onset SVT is AVNRT. Without knowing this, modern therapies such as slow pathway ablation, or adenosine, will not make sense.

    • @VickiBee
      @VickiBee 5 лет назад

      They told US abt AVNRT in CE for Paramedics. But it wasn't a doctor who told us. It was the Captain of the department, who's a Senior Paramedic & knows all about it.

    It's scary cuz I don't know if I even have tachycardia, let alone what type. I don't think I have any of the risk factors, by sometimes while resting my heart rate goes a bit over 100 and it keeps doing that every now and then. Do I have tachycardia?

    Ive always wondered why its called supraventricular because its above the ventricles and not related with ventricles. Is it because atrial tachycardia exists as a medical terminology?

  • @Ventus2077
    @Ventus2077 8 лет назад +2

    If Supraventricular means what's above the Ventricles then why didn't they name it Atrial Tachycardia instead of Supraventricular? and thanks for the video

    • @payalbhavsar6960
      @payalbhavsar6960 6 лет назад

      My guess is because it affects the AV node, which has a direct impact on the contractions of the ventricles, which controls the heart rate. It's not causing the atrium to contract fast, it's impacting the ventricles.

  • @Travisfromoregon
    @Travisfromoregon 9 лет назад +2

    I had an SVT episode back in 2012 and last night I was woken from sleep having another. My heart rate was just under 200beats per minute. These are really scary when they happen. I have always been a very anxious person, could this be the cause. I am also going through a pretty stressful time at present, and I suppose I am drinking more than I should. Is this the cause of the SVT or is there something more serious going on. I take Propranolol everyday, but when these SVT attacks happen, I have been give Metaprolol 10 mg tablets which usually slow things back down.

    • @jdjd2124

    • @garydunn3037
      @garydunn3037 6 лет назад

      You have these regularly? Have you had your heart checked out? They ran a series of tests on me, but they could not find anything wrong. In my case, I guess its just down to stress, and I have had plenty of that in my life. I sincerely hope you get to the root cause of your attacks, because these episodes can be pretty scary.

    • @jdjd2124
      @jdjd2124 6 лет назад

      Not regularly....but I suffer from anxiety as well so I thought it was panic attacks at first. I just had a baby 3 months ago and had an attack right after my c section surgery. The nurses were scared and so was I. I fell asleep during the surgery and woke up with SVT. They tried to get it down by pumping stuff in my IV and finally they got it back to normal. I just had this happen 2 night ago as well. Its so weird that it only happens while I am asleep. They did an EKG at the hospital and it came back fine. But I guess I may need to wear a monitor while I am asleep because when I am not having an attack they cannot determine the type of SVT IT IS.
