  • May is Asian American and Pacific Islander month, and we're honoring the people who are leading their industries and inspiring others.
Ban Tien immigrated to Houston with his family when he was 6-years-old and joined the Army right out of high school. He joined the Houston police department in 1997 and in April 2023 he became not only the highest ranking but also the first Asian American Executive Assistant Chief on the force.
"I'm extremely proud, proud not for myself, but the fact that it opened up, you know, a lot of doors, a lot of doors for perhaps, you know, immigrant kids coming in," Tien said.
Click on the video above to watch the Executive Assistant Chief’s story and what led Ban Tien to a life of service for his country and community

Those served in the military are good people but they are misguided by US government to other countries as an aggressor on the pretense of defending freedom when these countries have never threaten to invade.

Are you not proud to be called Vietnamese, but Asians? All the citizens from Middle East, such as Israel, Jordan,.. to Far East like Japan, Korea, China,.. are being called Asians. American society did have plenty of high ranking officials, originally from these countries have been working for the US Government!

Most Chinese don't want to assimilate to the cultures of countries they consider inferior to theirs (South East Asian) so they only speak their own language at home. Seems like B Tien is sensitive about his heritage bc he was born in Hai Phong, North Vietnam (Communist), and he is Chinese (1979, c hina vietnam war). So he identifies himself as Asian in general. But his past was beyond his control. What is important now is his contribution and loyalty to his America country.

@@jokh9992 What the hell are you talking about?! It’s normal that people of a different descent speak their mother tongue at home in the countries that adopted them. American expats in Vietnam, Hispanics in the U.S….
