Also whoever is telling you to keep reacting to rappers like French the Kid.. please stop lol some out of town rappers
Firstly Youngs Teflon used to do grime and still respects the culture. Lots of grime MCs can rap, lots of UK rappers used to do grime . Quick explanation of grime. - Grime is its own subculture and primarily a radio and live set culture. Grime songs and projects were rarer and so most of the culture is based on the radio set. Grime sets were made up of MCs a dj or two and Classic beats. The dj plays like 15 to 25 beats he mixed and it’s the MCs job to just quickly adapt to the new beat with their lyrics and get in pocket. When an MC is in pocket, has a hard lyric or a deep flow the DJ restarts the beat and that’s a reload. Back when grime started you had illegal radio stations where grime sets would be held the frequencies would only cover part of the city of London and were mostly in North London or East London. As a result of a radio culture with iffy audio quality Grime MCs would have to distinguish themselves the second they touched mic hence the “weird adlibs”. Grime sets were packed so you often got 8 bars or 16 if you were really pushing it. Hence the creation of signature bars which get an instant reload. Grime evolved of the back of different electronic music and sound system/dub cultures with only some MCs with rap influence. The point of grime isn’t to have heavy punches although some mc’s do like Ghetts, P money, wretch 32, Devlin etc. The point is to play with pockets, flows and pop your shit.. Some grime artists are deeper and will gave introspective bars but that’s not the norm. I think if you want to do something shorter do some of the Wize edits - Wize is a producer who tends to do more palatable beats and will edit classic clips to his beats so you get classic bars with new beats. exactly, the origin of grime didn’t allow MCs to have time to spit deep and thoughtful bars, it was all about who could get the crowd most poppin , because you have such a short time to spit usually you get your own sort of catch phrase like the guy in the comment explained^ so they’re weird adlibs to you but to the listeners when you hear it you know who it is spittin
@ The lyrics are not the focus - in the ranking it probably goes pocket, then flows, then lyrics. Instead of lyrics, then flows, then pocket in Hip hop. We still care about the bars but a cold grime bar doesn’t sound the same as a cold hip hop bar. Like when Skepta says “War with me is longer than a piece of string” - in hip hop thats a random ass bar but in the rave it goes OFF. In grime you are basically allowed loads of repetition. Verses sometimes resemble the hook of a rap song. Because the point is to get the crowd hyped up. Grime has spitters too - a lot of the mid 2000’s MCs like Scorcher, Wretch 32, Devlin, Chip, P Money and Frisco can also give you a punchline heavy rap style verse over a grime tempo. But thats why we love MCs like D Double E who can do a single adlib and get the reload easy. Or Flirta D who who can laugh in the mic and spin plenty of wordier verses. Youngs Tef actually said he stopped doing grime because the format didn’t allow him the space to get all his bars off. Which makes sense as Tef ODs on complex punches that could go skipped on the first listen.

I don’t think they get that grime, dnb was more about the rave and mc’ing ect not lyrics at home ffs, yet it would be hard to understand if you ain’t been there. Each to their own but these lads don’t get it. Same when they are criticising some pretty certified uk rappers as looking goofy like suspect (killer) or when kkoke says threats out they say sarcastic stuff like we scared when people die round there for this it’s real smh and also when they ain’t exactly Debo or Tyson looking hard as well ffs haha still love em though and enjoy there reactions every one can think what they like it’s all love. Grime is not rap it’s about energy and was definitely about the pirate or live thing. But tbh as an old un who loved grime I don’t think this was as good as it should of been tbf it was nice to see em all together but the beat ect was just a bit mid honestly
ohh dear
Listen to chip grm freestyle beg ya
Let ppl recommend grime tracks because you guys aren't hearing the best of the genre.
You guys shouldn't react to grime. It would be like someone into classic listening to rock. Your ears aint in tune to it. Bpm a minute is to different
Why react to something you know you don’t fuck with???? It’s official now grime is only for UK ears…..disrespectful
I grew up listening to grime most days even I think this is arse now
