My friend, I do not think the problem is with the iron. I have tried the receivers of the AKM and RPK models. The problem they have is in trying to unify the production line, even if it is at the expense of some pieces. An assault rifle and an RPK receiver placed in it. Also, for snipers, an RPK receiver was placed with a back support like the Romanian PSL.

As an American, I had to watch this while holding my Zastava ZPAP. Noticeably heavier than the WASR-10 I encountered at the store as well but much better fit and finish.
Interesting about the receivers of the rifles you encountered being softer than AKM receivers. Would not have guessed that would be the case considering that the steel used in the barrels is apparently much stronger than AKM barrel steel.

American companies have run into problems figuring out how to consistently heat treat AKM receivers without a high percentage, so perhaps the Yugos, who were also reverse engineering/making it up as they went along, ran into the same issues.

You know the Soldiers of the Balkans that carried these weapons had to be Beasts. The M70 is heavy. Like what? 8 lbs plus your kit? Keep those Vatniks away from your Mommy for sure 😁👍
