I was Scott’s neighbor for a few years and this is pretty spot on (to my ears). If Scott ever reads this comment, I’d like to say…hope you’re well Scott, sorry we were shite neighbors.
What do you mean you were shite neighbors..??? Scott can be grumpy but overall he’s a fantastic guy.. I really enjoy his company , his grumpiness is more of an act than anything , he loves dogs , people who love dogs are usually the salt of the earth Ya nice playing , I agree sounds better into a slightly broken up amp tone but I saw Scott use a fender hot rod deluxe amp and he just pushed the gain a little more than when he uses his Marshall and it was still glorious That’s a good pedal , most overdrives are not good with both clean and dirty amps
I snatched a vintage Ibanez SD9 a few years ago, love it! The footswitch contact isn’t perfect, sometimes it take me 2-3 pushes to turn it on, I should really find a tutorial on how to repair this.
True story, my dad found one of these in a golf bag he bought at a yard sale back in the 90's and gave it to me. It was one of my favorite pedals in college; it made my Fender amp roar like a Marshall! It wasn't in the best shape and when it died I had to buy a new one. The second one has some mini-toggles that are ok, but I set it and forget it.
I recently saw a video demoing the Line 6 Hedgehog D9, which is their emulation on the Maxon DS9. I discovered that it pairs really well with Grammatico GSG in my HX Stomp. Landau a Maxon DS9 on his pedalboard with his Dumble 100 watt Overdrive Special. The guitar Volume and Tone knobs work particularly well and dynamically with Hedgehog D9. An awesome pairing.
Try the Maxon VOP9, Scott Henderson used the VOP9 at one point and mentioned that it sounds slightly fatter than the SD9. THe level knob is very similar to the Klon, double potentiometers on the VOP9!
Great demo .. Just found you and had to check it out. It sounds really really good. I'm going to have to try to find one ❤ Thanks man. ❤ Regards from South Central Indiana. USA Tim. ❤🤘👍♥️👍
Sounds best when played into an amp at breakup or medium overdrive pedal. Dist. at 9-12 o' clock tone about 9-10 and level at12 and above. Plus reacts absolutely dynamic to the volume pot.
just bought one ....been on my mind for a long time, the MXR Fet Driver was too much for me! this seems great and sensitive even at lower gain settings...and no midhump: if I detect a midhump in a pedal its gone...
Ya they’re not easy to find Go get the TWA SH9 it’s a SD9 clone and it’s been modified to fix the couple of things Scott didn’t like about it The SD9 cuts a little bass and the tone knob is better in the TWA SH9 stands for Scott Henderson it’s a signature oedal
@@jasonweidner3274 You know you may be right in terms of it's architecture, but I've played both with a friend side by side and we were both like "this is a sd9 with more mid control" in terms of usage. so yeah... Scott Henderson also said the Xotic is similar to the SD9, although he prefers the original
Hmmm, I actually associate this pedal more with Scott Henderson for two reasons: 1. It's practically the only distortion he ever uses 2. He's mentioned a couple of times that it's the best distortion pedal ever.
I saw recently Scott Henderson at Baked Potato, SD9 was no longer on his pedalboard. Instead, his new signature pedal: TWA SH9 Scott Henderson Signature Distortion Pedal
Michael Landau uses loads of stuff - he has a signature Landau DeVille right? On the Tales from the Bulge album he was using a Jose Modded Plexi apparently, and I believe he also has/had a Dumble - and both Scott and Landau also use a Suhr Bella/SL68 from time to time I think?
ive had ab INSANE sounds from my #124 D circuit 100,s of modifications, YET NONE come as good as a EJ Fuzz into the TS-10., Its really hard ta beat stacked drives, The ONLY D tone is this IMHO.................... R Fords and that blue suede SSS, YMMV, respect! jp
I just saw Michael Landau with Steve Gadd, and although he had the Maxon on his pedalboard, I don't think he stepped on an overdrive the whole set. Just loud and clean amp tones.
Wow., I didn’t know this was about the SD9 and assumed it was a tube screamer video Then when listening thought ., how is that guy getting a tube screamer to sound like an SD9 ..!!! The tone knob is unusable at noon and on Keep the tone knob at between 8 -10 o’clock or it sounds horrible Unlike the tube screamer it is touch sensitive and can clean up with the volume knob on the guitar ..!!!
No, the clipping stages and EQ are very different. TS9 uses soft clipping and a mid boost, while the DS9 is hard clipping and a bit of a mid scoop. So they are actually quite a complement to each other!
The SD9 model on the HX is by far my favourite Distortion flavour from the platform!
Yay!!! NEW OUTSIDE LINES from John Cordy! Woo hoo!!! LOVE IT
So glad to see/hear you trying the SD9 ! Could hear you were enjoying this one quite a bit Doc ;) Your playing is mesmerizing, as always !!
I was Scott’s neighbor for a few years and this is pretty spot on (to my ears). If Scott ever reads this comment, I’d like to say…hope you’re well Scott, sorry we were shite neighbors.
Why? Was he too loud?

Oh…Scott wasn’t a shite neighbor! “We” were. Scott is a good man.
Good GRAVY man that half step below above licks shit is nasty in the best carlton / Lukather way. Damn that was badass.
I love my SD9 (Big Landau fan). But man, your playing! beautiful
Just put one on my board last night! Can’t wait to get it on some gigs this weekend. Great vid as always man. Killer playing. Thank you for sharing.

A friend of mine gave me one of these around 30 years ago when he decided it wasn’t for him. It’s currently on my pedalboard. Very cool pedal.
Awesome playing!
Sei qual é esse backingtrack ahahahah....muito bommmm!!!!
We NEED a video about outside/altered licks your playing has became more and more fusion (and tasty) lately :)
super fusiony intro, love the modal shifts, great demo
This is the jazziest intro I’ve heard from you, and I think it’s awesome
Check out his old Sunday streams he does standards 🤩
Man check out Scott’s new sig pedal based on this. SH-9. Designed by the original creator. Really really good.
JNC, how does the Helix model compare?

This litlle green boxe is currently on my PB. One of my favorite distortion. Better than the Boss DS1 to my ears.
How does the actual pedal compare with the model (Hedgehog) in the Helix?
Very Robben Ford of you!

What pick are you using??? Sounds awesome

Check out the Lovepedal Valve Reamer if you get a chance. It's a mix of SD9 & TS9...
Beautiful plating and sound. And on a tele!!?
Cool demonstration/ you slay
Great demo .. Just found you and had to check it out.
It sounds really really good. I'm going to have to try to find one ❤

Hi John, great playing as always! is that Wayne Krantz whippersnapper backing track in the intro? Where can I get that?
1:35 🔥😯 Blimey Charlie! 👏🏻
Whats the rest of the signal chain? Sounds like an already crunchy amp?
Just purchased one of these - I have high expectations :) Its replacing my Maxon VOP9 (which is great) but I want something a bit more aggressive.
Are you playing through the stomp here?
8:25 Guthrie in the area 🦾
John can you please try a Browne Amplification protein! It's one of the most popular dual drives, and I'm sure you'd have many opinions on it
Hi John, in which (real or virtual) amp are you plugging into ?
Wow this sounds fantastic. I want one of these.
Also you are a hell of a player.
It does sound great. A great and not common pedal is the Maxon OD880 or OSD9, which is unique and fun to play through.
What amp and amp settings are you using with this pedal?
I have one of these that has been modded by AnalogMan, but I still can't riff like you. Maybe the pedal is broken.
Sounds best when played into an amp at breakup or medium overdrive pedal. Dist. at 9-12 o' clock tone about 9-10 and level at12 and above. Plus reacts absolutely dynamic to the volume pot.
The best pedal
just bought one ....been on my mind for a long time, the MXR Fet Driver was too much for me! this seems great and sensitive even at lower gain settings...and no midhump: if I detect a midhump in a pedal its gone...
managed to tame the MXR FET. just loving it!, now gathering courage to try my new Maxon SD9!
NOO distortion pedals for me, thou those 2 get close!!..
素晴らしいです。
JOHN NATHAN CORDY, what SD9 settings does Scott Henderson use? he also rolls back the strats volume pot to 6 to 8?
lovely playing , John!! Really dig the backing track and can't seem to find it on Patreon?
Ya they’re not easy to find

The SD9 cuts a little bass and the tone knob is better in the TWA

The Xotic Soul Driven (Allen Hinds) pedal is a SD9 clone with an added mid control knob.
I always thought that one was an updated AC-Comp pedal, kinda tube screamer meets Timmy meets BD2 type circuit

I'm sure everyone knows that sig pedal is an updated sd9 but just in case. . .
TWA SH9 Scott Henderson Signature Distortion Pedal replaced his Maxon SD9
Tim Miller uses the SD9 as well.
Wayne uses a silver jubilee Scott uses a plexi
Michael Landau uses a fender clean tube amp .. the bigger hot rod deluxe , 2x12 combo
Forgot what it’s called
Michael Landau uses loads of stuff - he has a signature Landau DeVille right? On the Tales from the Bulge album he was using a Jose Modded Plexi apparently, and I believe he also has/had a Dumble - and both Scott and Landau also use a Suhr Bella/SL68 from time to time I think?
Mr Landau? From Space 1999?
Would be good to do a A/B with a Nobels ODR1

Its probably on as a boost the whole time :)
Joey Landreth has become an SD1 guy recently
btw... more jazzy stuff like this, please. Almost THE LICC in there.
What’s the SD1 ..?
@@mrmatthew2443 i mispelled that. I meant SD9.
The SD1 is the Boss Super overdrive though 🙂
Yeah as soon as i head it i said that sounds like Wayne's tone
There are a whole lot of modulation things going on in that intro 🧐
Nice…
Buy:boss sd1
Maxon od9
Proco rat
Big muff.
That’s all

Thought it'd sound like a ds-1. It didn't.
Isn’t that just a TS-9 ? Maxon made both pedals.
No, the clipping stages and EQ are very different. TS9 uses soft clipping and a mid boost, while the DS9 is hard clipping and a bit of a mid scoop. So they are actually quite a complement to each other!
That’s right the TS9 is a soft clipper and this is a distortion
Horn like
Maxon ds9 is the Best, It’s crazy not many people know it and they are expending their money all the new stuff that it’s just not that good.
I have heard this is a noisy pedal. Only reason why I don’t have one
Sounds suspiciously like absolute boIIocks to me...
Who says it's "noisy"?
@ Honeslty, a lot of people. It’s a comment that comes up a lot in threads. I haven’t tried one so this is obviously just what I have read.
First 🙈
My Behringer Ultra Metal sounds much better
a tube screamer is a "secret" weapon?
Right? lol these videos get dumber by the day
It’s not a TS it’s an SD entirely different circuit which often gets overlooked; likely because if folks like you. It’s in the title, “SD-9”.
