As slow and laid back as kampung baru is, it has produced many notable Malaysians. (grew up there myself 😁). The landowners there are still to this day being subject to a lot of pressure to sell those land (to high end developers of course). For many years now both carrot (from the developers) and stick (from the govt) approaches have been employed to get the owners to sell. Sadly, many have. But many thankfully are still steadfast, because they don't need the money - they're quite well off or comfortable and their younger generations are successful etc (my family has some land there and we are NOT selling 🙂)
I’m spending a week in kg baru, can’t wait for local food! But also 3 days in bintang….curious where u would recommend to eat that is better tasting? You said food pavilion food court bakso was sub par. How about Lot 10 food court or the nest or Sungei wang food court? Did u try any of these? Thks for your help 🙏
Bakso is Indonesian in Origin but there is a local twist... In Malaysia we love our toppings compared to the Original Indonesian version... Mee = Noodles... There is the Kampung Bahru Development Corporation.... the blocks / challenges to Development are: a. The Land has a Malay Reserve status... can only be bought and sold by Malays; b. Land is owned over generations and have not been administered/ estate/ probate over layers and layers of generations... thus difficult or even impossible to proceed development... Wanjo is ok-ish... made for tourist or all Malaysians... and not necessarily spicy enough for many people... 😂😂😂❤
Kampung Baru = New Village When Kuala Lumpur was just a jungle, they found tin & the first settlement was Kampung Baru It is not that we cannot afford to develop Kampung Baru but we want to keep it the way it was back then It is our heritage
I think it is funny how many non-Malaysians say "eat with hands" hahaha... you eat with your fingers. If you eat with your hands, it's going to be very, very messy! I'm just saying 😂. You are both my now favourite couple on RUclips.
Next visit you guys ahould go to Sarawak (the land of Borneo) and its still a part of Malaysia. You guys might be find a new experience and while do exploring about new knowledge tribe cultural there..Btw thank you for coming to Malaysia..You both are great!😄🤟
The reason there are not many Westerners in Kampong Baru because there is no alcohol. There is no restaurant serves wine or beer even in Western food restaurant.
The issue of kg baru under threat of redevelopment is contingent on its status as a Malay Reserve land, a colonial law legacy that was part of the British administrative management where both European attitudes on native cultures outside Africa (exotification/preservation) dovetailed with local rulers' political incentives - so in exchange of the right to extract resources and govern the then foreign labour, local elites were given some concessions that kept their cultural leadership, one of them being these parcels of land. something similar with Irish landowner elite working with the british. Grandfathered into the post-independence land code, the biggest 'headache' to those looking to develop these prime real estate is the fact the status of ownership basically denies the local council to do the usual thing like seizing the land under eminent domain and providing residents compensation. It's politicized because the area represents a Malay political issue (despite the fact the area is known territory towards naturalization for recent indonesian migrant labour - you'll note most of those you met are probably at most first-gen Malaysians - but they get folded into being categorised as Malay), and so despite the fact the biggest most motivated actors to develop the land is the Malay establishment/business class, it gets presented as another way the chinese are 'stealing' the land. Despite the fact the chinese middle class of KL have already suffered from their own eviction (most of the MRTs you see in central KL are built on lands seized via ED/similar code)
It is almost always the Malays themselves (the elites) selling off their lands, yet they still have the audacity to accuse the Chinese of doing so, and many Malays actually believe it (unironically).
Thanks for the video. Always use the right hand when you hand or take something for someone in Malaysia and in Muslim countries in general. If you have to use the left hand, say sorry left hand.
Most of the house owners are very rich.. it is just that they love Kg Baru to stay like that. Try other parts of Kuala Lumpur dwellings and you will get a different vibes.
Actually there used to be lots of "kampung" (village) oriented areas in Kuala Lumpur up to the early 2000. But "thanks" to the fast paced development and past "bureaucracy", many villages started to dissapear in the name of modernization. Historically speaking, Kampung Baru was established in 1899 by a grant from the then-Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Alaeddin Suleiman Shah, to allow the Malays to retain their village lifestyle within the city. Thus, all proposals of development must be granted by the current HRM Sultan of Selangor provided that it follows the rules of sustainable-development by retaining the traditional elements of the village. It is a very historical place that have witnessed many historical events (you can read the rest in Wikipedia) About the food. Bakso actually originated from our neighbouring country - Indonesia. Kampung Baru; like many kampungs in Malaysia; has been a host to many Indo-Malay (Mixed Marriage) even PR from Indonesia. The food from Indonesia has been passed down for generations in Malaysia. I really thought that the comments on the food are amazing - more like a food critic - very elaborate. However I am glad that you enjoy the food and I also love the comments from your other fans. It is refreshing to see your interest in blending into the vibes of traditional villages. The Kampung Baru residents are having no problems being surrounded by Kuala Lumpur - as every night, you will see how crowded Kampung Baru is making it so lively at night. Alternatively, if you ever get bored of KL, you should also try some other interesting locations outside but near Kuala Lumpur for example if you're travelling to Batu Caves or Gombak, you can also try places like Sri Gombak/Prima Sri Gombak (which is around 1.5km away from Batu Caves) Alternatively Ampang, or Klang (which is quite far - you need to take a train (KTM Komuter) to Pelabuhan Klang). Of course, it is recommended that you research the places you're going in advance. There are quite a number of hidden gems like rich nature - forest reserve, waterfalls, rivers, you name it - if you are the adventurous explorer type. But when you're travelling outside KL, it is advisable to limit your visit up to 8.30 pm as most of the shops/restaurants (not all) are closed quite early. (Then of course there is Grab and LRT Stations) unless you're planning to lodge a night or so in the budget hotels. Have fun guys.

Unfortunately the Mie Sedap & Nasi Lemak Wanjo Restaurant are not local foods...you just ended up in wrong food places...Bakso, Rendang, Tempe are Indonesian foods...but what to... most of the people in Kampung Baru actually Javanese descent...they migrated to Malaysia long time ago & now considered as a Malaysian but they are Javanese...so the food they sell mostly similar to what you can get in Indonesian...tips for you if you wanna find really authentic MALAY FOOD find restaurant who owned by Kelantanese or Terengganu...this two states food are the real MALAY FOOD, you can try Nasi Kerabu, Nasi Dagang, Nasi Kukus Ayam Goreng Berempah, Laksam, Keropok Lekor, Kuih Akok & the list goes on....

Oh no, the tembikai ice blended must have some sugar added. The mangga susu must added some condensed milk. Susu=milk...
Did you use mrt / lrt to go there?
May I have mee jawa satu🤤
🤤
Actually the developer want to developed Kampung Baru but the people in Kampung Baeu doesn't want because they don't agree with the price offer by the developer. That's why there are still Kampung/village in Kuala Lumpur...
The central market is for tourists
Wanjo the real nasi lemak. They did minus off the peanut though.
Eating with your right hand is by using the tips of your fingers only. Putting the food on the 4 fingers and push it with the thumb into your mouth...
Come to ipoh please
There are pressure to sell and make millions. Push and pull factor. The greedy developers are itchy.
It’s very sad to hear this, hopefully Kampung Bharu can stay 🙏
@@TwoMadExplorers some owner sell some not..like brother Keang said they were offered millions..Like you, I wish this Kampung Baru preserves and stay as village in the middle of city for many years to come

The locals are really sad to get their place be demolished and the city counsel can't do much to get them out of kampung baru.
kampung baru people & land very expensive...they are millionaire even surrounding with skyscraper buildings
Govt wanted to develop the Kampung Baru many years already but, NOT for skyscrapers. They intend to develop it more modern but maintain the Malay Kampung Culture. The intention is still ongoing but many issues or factors that they need to discuss & consider because some of them are the 3rd or 4th generation...
Please showing the agriculture item & culture but others nice 🌹♥️
