    You are correct about alot of things I have been there and had tea with some of the residents. There are many famalies still living there. Inside some of the doors are a courtyard then around this are the famalies residents, it is a fascinating history behind the hutongs. Love your sense of adventure and outlook on the world as a whole, keep up with your great videos, Happy chinese new year of the dragon.

    10:24 These are Beijing traditional desert/pastry call “Lu Da gon”, literally translated to something like “donkey rolling on the ground”. This is made of a large sheet of sticky rice, spread some red bean paste (the traditional ingredient) or other sweet fillings, then rolled them up and cut into pieces. Since they are made of sticky rice they are quite filling. I saw many different stores selling the same thing in this video. If you are still in Beijing you should give it a try.

  • @ivyshy98
    @ivyshy98 11 месяцев назад +13

    almost first, I'll try harder lol :D
    nice you finally made it to a hutong to see how people lived for hundreds of years. haven't watched your video yet but seems you went to a more commercial one but the concept is the same. slowly but surely hutongs are being replaced by high rises and shopping malls so it's good to catch a bit of history before it's all gone.
    post viewing edit lol ;) - pretty much everything you tried are kind of novelty items and a bit pricey. if you go on the side streets, you'd find places where locals go. even in the alleys where it looks like a residential section, there might be a cafe or restaurant tucked in there. if it's open, you can go through it without worries since it can lead to more alleys or courtyards. people's houses will have their doors closed to the street/alley.

    In Chinese culture, it is not common to ask someone "How are you?" or "How are you doing? (你好吗?ni hao ma),we simply wish them good (你好 ni hao),which is sufficient. Chinese people are reserved, even today in this modern era, you don't really expect to get a reply with "I'm not so good" (我不是很好), regardless if this is really the case of their current wellbeing. This is really different from the western culture that many westerners are not aware of. 😄
