  • Setting the V6 can be a game if trial and error, so hopefully this gives some idea if where to start.

One thing I may not have mentioned is that the V6 seems to be very particular about the headset used with it. Neither my old Lightspeed QFR passive headset and an older Flightcom work particularity well. However, my current headsets are in-ear style Clarity Aloft headsets, and they work remarkably well.
Whichever brand, style, or vintage of headset you decide to use, the V6 works best when both headsets are identical. This can be frustrating when you purchase a deluxe ANR headset for the pilot and a less expensive set for the passenger - that's just asking for problems.

Can you hook up an external intercom to this one? Like the pm 3000?

Been struggling with my V6 on and off for two years in my Rotax 2 stroke powered Kolb, I’m praying I just learned something.
Setting the Mic gains have always been a problem and I think I just realized the lower bar graph indicates by blank while the upper smaller bar graph indicates by blacking out? WTH?

Denny, I found that my old Lightspeed passive headset didn't work well at all with the V6. However, my Clarity Aloft headset works very well! Maybe that's an easy change you can try to help improve the performance. I was ready to sell my V6 until I switched headsets, now I'm pretty pleased with the combination.

Holy crap, a friend is loaning me a set of Zulu’s to try this evening, are they anything like your new headsets?

I’m praying it’s something that simple, been incredibly frustrating trying to dial in this audio system .
      Thanks Jeff

I just looked up your Clarity’s and see they are the earplug type.👍🏻

Jeff, a pilot friend came over this evening and we played around with his Zulu headsets in the Kolb for awhile and I didn’t realize until later that we didn’t turn the VOGAD off with the ANR turned on so the results were terrible as there wasn’t enough volume.
Anyway, after we had given up on the Zulus we went back to my QFR Solo Lightspeeds and wound up getting it dialed in with the mic gains and the VOGAD settings to the point where I’m fairly happy with the performance.
I may try a set of Halos to further improve my audio quality but I just wanted to thank you for the motivation in this video to get this dialed in. Can’t believe it took me this long to figure out.😑

I have the same radio and can't figure out how to turn on the back lighting. How do you do that?

The contrast is accessed thru one of the menu pages. I don't recall a specific backlight option, or a special way to wire it for backlight control. Try adjusting that setting, and if that doesn't have an affect the display might need repair at MGL.
