2024 "16th Annual Larson's Cruise for the Cause" Car Show, Smithville, MO
EAA Chapter 612 displayed a Kitfox Classic IV homebuilt airplane at the car show. How? It has a Subaru E81 engine! We like to think we won best in class - since it was the only one in class!
Plane is owned by Kirk Hull. Car Show was May 11, 2024,in Smithville, MO - right downtown. See you next year.

I wanted to let the engine run a bit, so I pushed the throttle up to about 2950-3000 rpm, and cruised around at 1000 AGL indicating about 160-165 mph. Good times, even though it doesn't REALLY matter when you're going nowhere!

I dropped in to say hello to the gang, and ended up doing more talking than flying. It was interesting to watch the Ag planes flying out of that short runway - they used every foot of runway too.
Sonex T&Gs, and a Tire Flat on Landing, 12 July 2021
Просмотров 7283 года назад
Three good touch and go's at Midwest National, then a final landing in the grass at Roosterville but the tire went flat! It's hard to tell but the plane slowed down faster than normal (I thought maybe the grass was long...), and then you'll see me looking confused and trying to see if I left parts behind me on the runway. Turns out the tire was completely flat by the time I got back to the hangar.

Morgan has flown with me in the Sonex a couple times previously, but I think he enjoyed this flight the most. He really took to flying the Challenger, and did better his first go than most others. He's a natural on the stick!

    AVLAB recommended taking the sample when the oil is hot. If you let it cool the contamination may settle to the bottom giving a false reading.

    The previous builders of my plane used camlocks, which like to hang up in there sockets even after you loosen them. Had I to do it over, I'd use the Southcos.

    Very well done, sir. Appreciate your modifications even more now that I've watched several videos- I definitely see why you would've gone with the Dynon radio- it would've been the last small piece of integration for your overall set up. I wonder if you would've been as happy (overall) with an AeroVee 2.1 or even the turbo? I really like how quiet your 3300 is even at max power and I enjoy the sound at cruise settings. It seems very smooth for all flight modes.

    What cruise speed do you get? Their site claims around 135mph /120kts at sea level and around 170mph/145kts at 8,000 ft. Both TAS for the Jabiru engine.

    I notice that you have a fabric canopy drap on the inside of your glass overhead covering. It has a metal bar that the fabric follows to give you shade in your plane. Can you provide the manufacturer for me and the approximate cost of the item in your plane shown here. TU! Paul

    • @jeffshultz1116
      @jeffshultz1116 3 года назад

      Paul, that fabric sun shade is made by "Koger". They are nicely made, and although they are priced a bit higher than you'd think just by looking at it, the quality and performance is wonderful, and I'd never want to go back to flying without one!

    Been there. I had a challenger 1 and was flying one day and there was a rain shower about 12 miles away. A gust of wind hit while flying and nearly flipped me. I almost crapped my pants. I couldn't believe a thunderstorm that far away would effect me. Lesson to self. Never fly these light airplanes with rain or showers anywhere in your region.

  • @kaiying74
    @kaiying74 3 года назад

    There are a couple of nasty looking showers in view as you turn left prior to take off that even to me with no flying experience look out of the performance range of this craft. Glad you're ok and are pitching this as an educational exercise cos judgement seems off in this one.

    Front gear looks loose. I thought when you did the touch and go, that was to be a full stop because the turbulence was far too great for a light experimental. I was done and when you throttled up to leave the ground I was shocked. The clouds looked turbulent in the distance, another concern.
