This is the exact video I was looking for! I've had a TE-20 fitted with Tonerider Hot Classics for a while, and I love the sound. I recently picked up a TE-52 (same as yours), and it has the original Roswells. Have to say, found the Roswells to be a bit 'weak' compared to the Hot Classics. And that is what I hear in your video. There's not a lot in it though. I will mess around with pickup height and gain etc, but in the end I'll probably get a new set of Hot Classics. Always good to give support to Tonerider - they offer excellent pickups at a very reasonable price. Plus they are home-grown (for me, an Englishman), and I've had a couple of email exchanges with the boss, and he's been extremely helpful - nice guy!
The Roswells in my TE62DB are wonderful but I love my Tonerider humbuckers so much I will get the Hot Classics. They sound amazing in demos. AC2 if you need humbuckers.
@@221b-l3t I've got an old Charvel Desolation, which is a single-cut, really designed for shredding and metal, and put a Tonerider P90 in the neck and a Tonerider AC2 in the bridge. So I've got the fast neck, nice light weight, Floyd Rose trem, but the pickups are 'vintage'! It's a great combo if I want to play old rock/blues.
I have both, Roswell has slightly warmer more vintage kind of sound. The Toneriders have more clarity. Of course all is subjectiv. But I agree with dawoud8013 in general it's the same sound color
Nice comparison. I have the same Harley Benton TE-52 model from many years and decided to change stock pup's (it was Wilkinson AlNico5 yet, not Roswell) for Tonerider Hot Classics TRT2 too. The sound was changed dramaticaly for more 3-dimensional, more organic one. Wilkinson and Roswell has similar 'nothing-special' proper sound compared to Tonerider IMO. Tonerider = badass tone with joke cost! This video shows exactly what I mean. Thanks
you should consider type of magnet difference, hot classics are AL3 which in my opinion is best for tele neck and AL5 in the bridge, Roswell is AL5 so not a good comparison here. You can really hear it AL3 sounds better in neck and Roswell AL5 in the bridge IMO.
I considered these pickups for the Tele Thinline CV 60. However I wonder if they are similar to the Fender Vintage 64. In any case, it gives a very good clean sound on the neck and the output is quite smooth.
When he throws in some dirt you don’t hear a big difference. I’m wondering if a bone nut was installed while using the Roswell pickups if I’d would sound like the other pickups. The other pickups are just a little brighter and lively
Maybe it's unintentional. Or rather, surely it's unintentional! But for half the test, both you guys use your right hand in quite a different way. Subtle difference, but noticeable. Gentler and softer on Roswells, more energetic and forceful on Toneriders (first guy, neck and both, for example). When your playing is more constant on both pickups brands (first guy, bridge, for example), difference between Roswell and Tonerider tend to decrease substantially.
I agree completely with you. The difference is hardly noticeable. For the money and work involved to make the change it is just not worth it. I invest in better Tuners and a Graph Tech nut. So far not one "Tonerider" pick up upgrade on different guitar styles has impressed me. It's just a HYPE.
Harley benton fa grandissimi strumenti!
If you have a really good telecaster the Lundgren Tele Vintage 6,4 K SET is the best way to go if you are looking maximum twang. Now they are over 200 usd, but they are also fantastic
The Alnico 3 in the Toneriders has much more character, snap, and sparkle to my ears. (Listening with high quality headphones) I don't care for the Alnico 5 Roswell pickups. (I had the exact pickups in my HB TE-25th and swapped for Toneriders Hot Classics
Having listened to the tests and read the comments, I'm utterly confused. In the tests, I agree that the Toneriders sound better. However, I have a TE-52 with stock Roswell pickups and an 11lb mahogany bodied monster Telecaster that I made (makes the TE-52 look like a lightweight) in which I put Tonerider Hot classics, and the TE-52 combination beats my home Tele with the Toneriders, hands down. So I swapped all the electronics round from one guitar to the other and the Roswells in my guitar sounded great and the Toneriders in the TE-52 sounded dull. I have binned the Toneriders and installed a set of Roswell TEA Telecasters in my self-built guitar. The Roswells in my new guitar are very slightly less bright than in the TE-52 but that may be down to the mahogany or different pots. Either way, Toneriders are not for me. I should add that I wanted the, rip your head-off, sound of Roy Buchanan at his most vicious and that's what have and I'm very happy!
Hi ! in the description of the video they wrote : "The settings of the Fender Champion 100 and the position of the Microphone have remained unchanged to make the comparison even more real"
Hi, not being nosey or interfering, but if you go back to just before you bend the body and neck to get the vibrato effect, you see your guitar goes out of tune, :) Honestly brother, it will destroy your lovely guitar. The Tone riders are best btw and good luck...
Roswells sound just fine. Tonerider maybe a little better or just different !
Sounds nice!!!!!!!! although the Roswell pickups are also very good
Very good sounding pickups(both)
For my ears, both sounds same. Very good sound.
I've had both. Tonerider is hands down the best. You can't attack the Roswell, they get muddy. Still a nice pup, however, Tonerider Hot does it all.
This is the exact video I was looking for!

Andrzej Omes thank you very much!!! Yes!!! Tonerider=Badass Sound with joke cost!!!

Also to my ears the responsiveness seems much better with alnico 3s than alnico 5s.
Great comparison! Roswells sound not bad at all, but Toneriders definitely win!
ToneRider have a bit more punch/level ! but it's the same sound "color" sound design ! Great Roswell !
NICE 👍

Roswell sound just fine to me. Clean they’re really noisless? Good tone :)

I couldn't really tell the difference to be honest, is it anything that couldn't be achieved through the amp settings or pedal board?
Maybe it's unintentional. Or rather, surely it's unintentional! But for half the test, both you guys use your right hand in quite a different way. Subtle difference, but noticeable. I could be mistaken but it’s the same guy
Not much difference - Tonerider sounds a little louder and a
bit clearer - but what matters is the guitarist not the pickups
Very useful video! Thanks!
The tuning is out. The Intonation needs some adjusting. Decent guitar for the price tho.
Harley benton fa grandissimi strumenti!

I definitely hear a difference with the Toneriders I like em better.
What do you think? Is it really worst to spend 80€ on the toneriders? I am thinking of doing this also
For me the best PU for Tele....I have them!
@2:00 @2:35 Spanish Elvis...
I am lost here, dont all HBs come with the same pickups ? Or is it these tone riders where added on ? 😁✌

The guitar changes to a different one at 4:22
And the person changes
And your jumpers keep changing
How am I supposed to hear the true difference when you keep the amp settings and microphone position the same but change your tone-sweater? Ruined.
The song changes to Kashmir
Good eye... wood grain def looks different

The 2 guitars are not recorded at the same volume so it's difficult to tell.
Hi ! in the description of the video they wrote : "The settings of the Fender Champion 100 and the position of the Microphone have remained unchanged to make the comparison even more real"
Guys i can see the best guy looks exactly like Elvis Presley :) in the most natural way
lol ...
the only thing I hear is a boost in volume that disapears with the overdrive
Exactly👍
Why guitar is out of tune? impossible to set up or just you don't care? Huge difference, tonerider it a mile ahead.
Hi, not being nosey or interfering, but if you go back to just before you bend the body and neck to get the vibrato effect, you see your guitar goes out of tune, :) Honestly brother, it will destroy your lovely guitar. The Tone riders are best btw and good luck...
I cringe when I see people do it to an expensive guitar. You can do vibrato on chords, no need to ruin the neck joint....
The stock roswells sounds good to me so waste of time AND money spent on those toneriders
Yes, they do sound very good considering the price; however, they are unusable due to how microphonic they are.
Toneriders are clearly better, but that's just my 2¢
And they're out of tune in less than one song....
Neither... just go dimarzio or fender gen 4. Waste no time on these ones
Lady's and gentleman mister ELVIS PRESLEY
Waste of money! instead you could have one more guitar the harley benton the st62 for example.....
