Mossy comes in with that gorgeous voice: “I’m about to tell you a story” Harmonica guy: “Oh yeah? Well check this out!” Mossy’s guitar solo: “But wait…” Barnesy: “Hold my beer” It’s all just perfect 🤌🏼
He's not trying to get out of Bow River. He's working in a factory 6 days' drive south of it. Bow river is in northern Western Australia. Six days separate him from the big Top End (northern edge of the continent). So first set of wheels he can get, he'll be back in Bow River again. Thanks for playing it
The perfect rock song in every way, just pure talent all round on stage!! The forever young man on the keyboards is Don Walker, the mastermind behind some of the best Cold Chisel lyrics you’ve yet to discover but every single member of this band has written songs. Brilliant reaction, really fun to watch you discover our boys.
Kappy, watching this I was thinking, if this was an American band, would they have made it biggish lol. As you know, we’ve had and have so much talent in so many music genres and other fields. Other countries only know the tip of the iceberg here. Then I pondered 🤔 lol. I sort of like it personally, our own private party in many fields of everything had been going on her for many decades, and we were the lucky ones in Aus invited to the party lol
@@bernadettelanders7306 funny thing is a lot of Americans regard this as country music in a way it has some roots in country with Mossy 's background and all but it is also straight out pure rock IMHO Chisels would of done ok in the rock charts but I would think they would of been #1 in country but thanks to some dipshit we will never know now
One reason Moss and Barnes (and the rest of the band) can read each other so well is that the band started as a pub band - the whole pub rock genre was about live performances. play virtually daily with the same bunch of blokes for years and you quickly get to see where they're going and how to fit your part in seamlessly, without conscious thought. It's the hallmark of a great live performance.
I can tell you hearing them live is unbelievable I went to a few of their concerts, and They got the whole place Jumping, it's just one big party, and they tore the place down! The more Jimmy was drinking from that bottle of vodka the louder he got, and the harder we all partied.
Hey from the future (it’s 4am Monday in Sydney)..David Blight is the harmonica player. He is a talented musician in his own right. Also Barnsey and Mossy have been playing together on & off since around 1975 when they were teenagers and when I’ve seen them play live together it’s like they can predict what the other is going to do. Jimmy kept most of Australia entertained during COVID when he would use instagram to sing from his home studio. Jimmy’s kids are talented musicians as well. He and his son David Campbell sing an excellent version of “you’ve lost that loving feeling” together. David was born when jimmy was 17 and was raised by his maternal grandmother who he was told was his mother with him only finding out later he is jimmy barnes son..David is great singer, does musicals and is a co-host on morning TV.
The Auto industry was based in Adelaide, in South Australia. Bow River is near the border of Western Australia & Northern Territory, in 'the great top end'.
A lot of Chisel’s songs are about working class themes of drudgery in meaningless jobs, regrets about old places or relationships etc, truly Australia’s Blues, what Blues is all about. They even played with John Lee Hooker live from memory.
Bow river is a tributary of the Ord River, starting just south of Lake Argyle. Here's a link to a video about the area, although I think this is from north of the lake. The area has two seasons, the wet and the dry. ruclips.net/video/gqBkt-RhFcM/видео.html
My hubby spent 7 years at Argyle Mine Site and also Sonny Mulay. Not correct spelling for a while. About 2 hours from Kununurra. Said they gave up replacing bow river sign as it kept getting stolen.
Any cold chisel live doesn't ever let you down. The best live band I have seen. Been to many of there concerts since 1978 and just get better like a fine wine.
The Chisel East album is one of the best albums to ever come out. This is what you get when musicians create music rather than factories. I saw them so many times in my youth and it was always electric. Another great band to check out is Midnight Oil and their Blue Sky Mines. A political rock band. And a huge part of aussie rock

Cold Chisel a great Aussie rock band with Barnes and Moss alternating lead vocals an their songs and genius keys and composer Walker Prestwich on drums and Small on bass not to mention the inimitable David Blight on Harmonica how could they be anything less than outstanding
Just a bit of random info for you. After Cold Chisel Steve Prestwich the drummer went and joined another famous Australian band called The Little River Band (LRB) who was fronted in that carnation by another Australian legend John Farnham.
Just loving your reactions to our Aussie talent. Where else would you find a band like Cold Chisel with two great singers out front like Barnsey and Mossy. You’d be lucky to have one of them.😊
Thank you! They are an extreme talent without question! I agree, to have either in your band would be a great honor. Not too many musicians of that caliber walking around!
Loving watching you see this stuff for the first time. Ive been listening to these guys for 40 years. I guess you can kinda take them for granted but watching you is like hearing it for the first time myself
If you could only have just one video to show a newcomer to Cold Chisel, this is the one. It might be two decades after the studio album and the peak of their commercial success, but for me the band were at the very height of their power on this tour. Back in the day it was mostly a Barnesy show, his vocals and stage antics were so strong that it distorted our perception of Chisel as a band. Move forward 20 years to this video though and you see them as equals of deep talent, seasoned pros aware of and reveling in their musical abilities, songwriting and chemistry. In this one, Jimmy uses that monster voice with nuance and respect for Mossy's lead vocal. The song really has it all: great solos, dynamic range from soft guitar chords all the way to wide open party jam and back to quiet again. Two great vocalists, five great instrumentalist, evocative lyrics, epic harp stylings and complete control of a very enthusiastic crowd. This is all of Cold Chisel in one track
Great reaction mate, so glad you enjoyed it. They do some great slow songs together too - I'd recommend "Saturday night" for starters. It's basically about being at the end of a big night out in the city. Barnesy and Mossy work as a unit again.
So please you enjoyed this! ....and yep, some of the coolest harmonica ever (though John Farnham's Chain Reaction 1990 live concert version also has pretty wicked harmonica too)
Thank you! I'm going to wait a couple of weeks to kind of get the song out of my head since we saw the official video for it already. I want to be less familiar with it when we watch the live version. They are so good!
There is a Bow River in the far south-west of my state, Western Australia. However there is also one in the far north of the state in the Kimberley region with the same name. There is also a cattle station ( ranch ) in the same area, where Ian Moss's brother had once worked. Whatever the origins of the song, it's a bloody good one and one of my all-time favourites.
May I recommend your next chisel song be “you got nothing I want” live from ‘the last stand’ concert (same concert as wild thing 1983), it’s jimmy’s message to the American record companies🤣
"When the War is Over" from the same concert in 2003 is also excellent with the vocals from Ian and Jimmy complementing each other. It's a totally different vibe, but just amazing. 🥰
The best thing is that they are all great musicians . Jimmy could just take over but he holds himself back until the end giving Ian a chance to make the song his , love his smooth voice . One of the worlds best harmonica players but the piano man isnt exactly a chump either. Theres a heap of material out there for you to check out , Bring it on , it never gets old no matter how many times we hear it .
Hey there Tex - Here's another very iconic Aussie rock band to add to your workout playlist, who also incorporate a fair bit of harmonica in their music....PLEASE would you react to Midnight Oil - Blue Sky Mine ( ruclips.net/video/Ofrqm6-LCqs/видео.html ) The song is about the town of Wittenoom here in the north west of Western Australia, which was abandoned in 1978 and removed from maps 2007 , due to the asbestos mining disaster. The mining company knew the asbestos was deadly to people, but they said nothing and hundreds of people died from asbestosis lung disease. Midnight Oil have been environmental protection warriors and political activists since the early 70s, and have some awesome on point music. Enjoy
You mentioned Barnsey and Mossy vibing, if you watch their live shows you'll notice Jimmy often looking at Mossy or Walker (pianist). This live version is nothing short of perfection. Including the video and editing. Perfection. While Bow River is not one of their biggest or most well known numbers, for many Chisel fans it is always at the top of the list. (or very close to the top)
You’ve probably been told beforehand but this is the first listen to you. Bow River is in a number of states but in this case it related to the Northern Territory. And the Slogan for that pseudo state of Australia is : CU in the NT. You can get a TShirt with that logo. Greetings from West Oz. 🎉

Thanks Mate for a great reaction , for a Mossy solo check out his song Tucker's Daughter it's terrific ,also Barnesy has a Daughter MICHALEA BARNES who is every bit as good a singer as her dad , check out her song NASTY GAL which is phenomenal or RIDING WITH THE KINGS or her singing on a collaboration the Australian mega hit THE REAL THING a cover of a Russell Morris song , you won't be disappointed
A few Chisel classics are: Goodbye (Astrid goodbye), Four Walls, Khe Sanh, Star Hotel, Choir Girl, When the War is Over, Flame Trees, ...the list goes on & on..... ✌️
The very same concert you should check out, When The war Is Over. The two of them hit their higher notes and just let rip. Amazing song to witness at its best.

This guy's just like walked in from the street. No bullshit, never behave like the idiots. Pure talent, common if you know music you can judge your self ! We are in down under reel people and music!! Take it easy good day!! Could Chesel!!
You’ve probably noticed how proud of our pub rock, us Aussies are, through all the comments on various videos. It’s a shame the record companies didn’t promote it more in the USA. I reckon you might have heard a lot more of it in the 70’s and 80’s on American radio. Having lived in Texas for a few years, I reckon you guys in the south would have loved it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this classic.
Definitely recommend trying their solo stuff. Barnes has been more successful overall, but I personally tend to prefer Mossy. Mossy’s latest album in 2018 was his first electric album for 22 years and so deserved more airplay
The harmonica player's name is David Blight, and like so many of the great musicians and bands of the 70's and 80's in Australia, both David's and Cold Chisel's performance roots lay in what we term the 'pub rock scene'. Thanks to legalised gambling that live performance culture was virtually destroyed acros the 90's and 00's. Fortunately however, partly due to TV shows like Rockwiz (look it up) and outer suburb venues like those in Belgrave (in Victoria), there are are few pockets of authenticity and incubaters of autjentic 'rock' attittude surviving today. Please support them, and if you are from elsewhere in the world, please make them a musical and cultural destination of choice (and it is okay to tell them I recommended them).
Barnes and Moss fought like cat and dog. There are stories of them driving around Sydney in a mini beating crap out of each other from the front seat to the back seat. 😂
Like most of Cold Chisel's songs this was written by Don Walker, the Piano player and though both Ian Moss and Jimmy Barnes have written great songs Don is like the Godfather of song writers in Australia though I expect the most successful Australian song writer is probably Joy McKean but that's another story.
Hey man, do yourself a big favour and watch the documentary "working class boy" by Jimmy barnes its his life story basically, about how he came to Elizabeth (bow river) as a boy and this town messed him up (I live here, my dad was his mate in high school) The Holden factory used to be here before everyone was laid off. A lot of unemployment and social problems in Elizabeth!
Barnesy and Mossy's voices are like chocolate and peanut butter. Just so perfect together.
Mossy comes in with that gorgeous voice: “I’m about to tell you a story”
Harmonica guy: “Oh yeah? Well check this out!”
Mossy’s guitar solo: “But wait…”
Barnesy: “Hold my beer”
It’s all just perfect 🤌🏼
Indeed! These guys really are awesome!
Absolutely
So could not have put it better!!!!
Harmonica Guy is Dave Blight, an Adelaide blues legend. He's played with Chisel since their self titled debut album in 1978.

Please support them, and if you are from elsewhere in the world, please make them a musical and cultural destination of choice (and it is okay to tell them I recommended them).
My absolute all time favourite song, about a bloke getting out of a rut and living
I know that story on a personal level! Great song!🤘😃
Dave Blight .. King of Harmonica :)
Great reaction 💥
Barnes and Moss fought like cat and dog. There are stories of them driving around Sydney in a mini beating crap out of each other from the front seat to the back seat. 😂
That was Jimmy and Steve, not Mossy
I will see it soon for sure, I already know it's gonna be good!
Ian wrote it, but they both performed it from the start. Loooove em cause I grew up with them and I duet it with my lil bro. 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺💗💗💗
