I literally never comment to any videos but after this I have to do it. I've been watching your videos for a long time now and all I can say to you is: Thank you. I've been in very dark places at times during my life and the time I found out your channel has been some sort of a turning point for me in my life. I started drumming again after 15+ years of not playing, have done gym better than ever before and been thinking more critically about everything I do in my life, especially while drumming. And after I watched this video, i'm done dude. It's so unreal how much energy your videos bring through the screen and how they have affected in my life and how I got myself back on the right tracks again.. Esa parte de "si no querés pagar el precio para serlo, entonces déjalo" me parece importantísima. Toco batería por diversión. No practico ni 1 hora al día. Pero siempre toco divirtiéndome. No me interesa ser tan bueno como mis referentes. Me interesa pasarlo bien. Desde ese día desapareció la frustración!
Me pasa lo puto mismo con el bajo. Me hubiera gustado ser infinito mejor tocando, pero eso implicaba llevar un modo de vida que no quería, tarde varios años en darme cuenta y lo llegué a pasar muy mal. Una vez lo acepté empecé a disfrutar mucho más de tocar y mucho más de mi vida, y me considero mucho mejor músico ahora que antes, ya que pese a ensayar un poco menos, al tener menos presión, aprovecho mucho más lo que estudio.

También tocaba la batería de puro gusto. Desde que me topé con un short de @elestepariosiberiano comencé a mirar sus vídeos y me dieron unas enormes ganas de armar la bata y sentarme de nuevo a tocar y practicar. Siempre tuve problemas para marcar el ritmo y cuando iba a clases con los profesores, quería ir más allá y siempre terminaba dejando sin primero entender y comprender la parte fundamental de la batería que es el principio básico.
Ya perdí suficiente tiempo de mi vida y no estoy haciendo un puto esfuerzo de mi vida para hacer lo mejor. Sé que tengo una estrella y que puedo ser el mejor, porque lo he sido.

The best compliment I ever received was from a friend who also plays drums and who was very, very good. After a gig with my band, he told me "it shows that you practiced". For me, saying that someone has talent is close from insulting the time, effort, and sacrifice someone has gone through to get this far. Thanks for this video man ❤️
I've heard this exact take from so many musicians. Being called talented just rubs a lot of them the wrong way. I definitely understand, but for some reason I would actually love to be seen as...i guess the word would be special, and/or naturally gifted. A unique player who would be very tough to replace. I'm not sure why I view it like that though. In reality I'm not a prodigy, I'm just an OK drummer, but a guy can fantasize I suppose.
i get where you're coming from, but to me, talent comes from A) time, effort, practice & discipline, and B) actual talent. To say that it is insulting is a reach for me. Never have I said : wow you're good, and thought I was putting myself or them down for it. I can recognize that someone has put in the hours and efforts, and is actually really good at something. To me that is the most inspiring thing ever, and never have I ever considered that to be an insult. Super interesting takes here!

I have been playing for 25 yrs, Then i had a family, it didnt stop me from playing but the time i had for drums went to raising kids, it took ALL the speed i had in my legs away. I have literaly spent the last three years in my woodshed rebuilding my speed, in the last month it has started to come back. It took three years, sure there is times i thought why am i not getting better etc.... but you know what fuck it, you know why because i love drumming and am willing to put the time in. if you truly love something you Will keep going.

I had tears in my eyes by the end of this video. I watched hoping for motivation. This is so much better. So much more. My goal is not musical but the message resonates just the same. I have discipline in different aspects of my life but not for what I want. Fear of failure or a lack of belief in my ability keeps me from REALLY trying and hearing someone say out loud how ridiculous that thought process is…I needed that.

My motivation for getting into medical school has been waning a bit, and I’ve been putting half-effort into my studies and coasting off talent, but I know it’s not what I want. Thank you for the reminder, that I made this descision and I should be willing to sacrifice everything to achieve it, and that requires discipline. I think going forward I’m gonna have a talk with myself ever few months, just as a reminder for why I started. Thank you kindly, I’ll be hitting the books (and the drums).

Estuve pensando exactamente lo mismo: pasárselo a mi hijo de 12 años.
Pero ... la parte de sacrificar amigos y/o pareja es algo que me duele. Dentro de toda nuestra disciplina somos seres sociales. Está claro que ninguna persona "de fuera" va ha hacer que tu seas una persona disciplinada. Pero lo que sí consiguen esas personas es ayudarte a pasar por tiempos difíciles y a que no te derrumbes.
No sé si para chavales de esta edad es buen precio a pagar.
@@afk_82 hola, quizás la parte de amigos y novia. Los amigos lo entenderán y la novia también. Si saben que quieres esforzarte, ellos estarán allí esperando a que termines/finalices tu meta y poder felicitarte y acompañarte cada vez más en todo.

this came at exactly the right time. ive been feeling worse than i ever have been lately and im thinking its nearing the end of the road for me. ive lost my way and idk what i want from my life. but right now i just need to survive.so thats my goal now for the next while. im gonna go for a run and then im gonna get home and have a shower and then im gonna eat and sleep. i will worry about tomorrow tomorrow.

Great video, well done. This just showed up in my feed and I was going to change it after it started but then you said something that resonated with me. You said "Discipline" and from that point on, I was glued to the video.
Picked up the sticks when I was 10, did middle and high school bands, church orchestras, a drum and bugle corps, then I started rock drumming when I was 20. When I hit 40 years old, I got married and enlisted in the army in 08 due to the poor economy. I needed a job and they needed bodies. At this point, thirty years of being a drummer was over and I had a wife and step-daughter now. Got medically retired in 2013 after I came home from Afghanistan only for my wife to start battling cancer. I cared for her till she lost her battle in 2019 and the child was now grown and married so I now had time to reflect. Built me an 8pc kit to start drumming again, always liked the bigger sets. Fast forward, now I'm 55 and playing better than ever and my little kit is now a 15pc monster kit with a couple dozen cymbals and searching for musicians. Found my badass bassist from a Nu-metal power trio we were in 25 years ago, so my rhythm section is good to go, but my search continues for others.

A raíz de la pandemia pase por diferentes temas muy complicados en mi vida personal. Me encantó tu canal y comencé a educarme en temas musicales. A mis casi 40 años me compre mi primera batería y lo tengo claro, no voy a ser un profesional (no por que no pueda sino por que no está en mis planes) pero me dedico una hora diaria todos los días a soltar todo el estrés en ese instrumento y al día de hoy ha sido la mejor terapia que he tenido. Voy 6 meses y no he fallado un solo día, en parte por tus videos. Gracias por tus palabras.

Necesitaba algo asi tio, tengo 50 tacos y mil miedos a pesar de mi edad, me has dado una leccion de vida en 13 min, mira que he leido sobre motivación en todas sus vertientes pero me lo has desmontado en cero coma.... Mil gracias tio, me has hecho replantearme toda mi vida y como conseguir mi sueño. En mi caso si creo en el talento, soy bueno cantando y eso lo tengo de nacimiento, sin practicar ya lo era, pero la disciplina y el trabajo te hacen muuuucho mejor aún, a mis 50 soy mucho mejor que a mis 17 y eso es por trabajo, y a eso es a lo que te refieres , entiendo. Un tio con sentido del ritmo puede absorber mejor la enseñanza que uno que no, pero si el que no tiene sentido del ritmo trabaja más que el que si, la disciplina ganará al talento.

Talking to ourselves, positive affirmations, etc., are one of the most effective things one can do for themselves.
Our thoughts, especially the ones we give power to through belief, words, and actions, shape our reality. Our brains don't know the difference between jokingly saying "I suck" or seriously saying "I suck', so be careful when speaking to yourself because your brain really only hears that "I suck".
The same goes for positivity. Tell yourself good things, encourage yourself, practice, make the sacrifices, but most importantly figure out what you want.

Muy buen libro. No existe el gen del músico, ni del artista, ni del matemático, ni del gimnasta, ni del programador. Efectivamente hay predisposiciones genéticas que favorecen algunas cosas, pero sólo será al inicio, luego todo es práctica deliberada por años para alcanzar la maestría.
Hoy Domingo 25 de septiembre 2022, me queda una hora de día, pero mañana, lunes 26, me predispongo a dar mi 100% en mis clases, entrenamientos, y juro, pese a no tocar en casi un mes, dedicarle al menos una hora y media al Bajo, a practicar tecnica y teoria, y acabar con todos los estudios de ese día, porque yo quiero dormir bien.

hace 10 años que vengo esforzándome y sacrificando todo para mejorar como guitarrista, cantante y compositor. arranque tocando para 5 personas con 18 años en un bar de mierda y mañana voy a tocar para 2 mil personas como telonero de jinjer. y se que todavía me queda mucho mas por mejorar. gracias por este video que reafirma las cosas que siempre pensé.

Well said. Thank you for your work and practice. It is inspiring to me and those around me. I'll never have 8 hours to put into drumming but I am paid to put 100% into my job every day and knowing that I do even if it doesn't always seem like I've accomplished all I should makes me proud of my work. Your work is clearly drumming and inspiration. Keep it up. And again, thank you.

I love the drums and I just did everything you just said that needs to be done. I too sacrifice friends and family to get better playing. I have to keep pushing toward the goal. I have much respect for you because you told the truth about life and that it all takes work to achieve.

Thanks for that, I've been a drum teacher for years and when you talk about talent, that's exactly what I've been saying to them. No one in the world will become the best at something without putting in the work. Yes of course some people have it easier than others, but especially in music, you don't have to be the fastest drummer on earth to succeed, you just have to get better everyday and enjoy the journey. Thank you again brother keep up the good work !!

Ur no BS approach, simple, calibrated, straight to the point speech is a Killer. In times were people are bombarded every day by superficial s@#t like material people/videos/stories that try to make us feel less/uncomfortable ur words are like a Medicine and you are salt on Earth.

I'm six weeks away from finding out if I can do it, and I'm going to give it that 100%. I took Spanish in school and I wanted to try and tell you in your language how much I appreciate your videos without using Google translate. This one actually made me tear up. I'm coming out of a rut and working hard on discipline. It sucks a lot of days, but the end will be worth it!

I absolutely love everything you are saying here. I used to be somebody that put myself down and put others on a pedestal for one reason only: I didn't want the responsibility of being successful. That shit takes a lot of concentrated work. To achieve and maintain a goal doesn't come cheap but when you get to a point where you accept and desire the responsibility of success you become unstoppable. Great video, Hombre! Even though I'm currently nowhere near your level at the current moment as a drummer, I have never thought about quitting since I made the choice to commit to drumming as my top priority almost a year ago. When I see people like you, it makes me want to work harder and I become excited to do so.
I love this dude. He makes you want to quit with has absolutely fucking amazing drumming that blows you away, but gives you enough motivation and says you can’t.
