      I replaced my Gentle Typhoons with these. They have zero bearing noise and much less vibration transmitted to the case of my computer, making these a huge improvement at low speed, while they just about match the GTs at high speed.

      www.reddit.com/r/hardware/comments/8ialtj/noctua_nfa12x25_first_impressions_oc/
      I made recordings of GT versus Noctua which you can see there. You'll just have to take me at my word that the amount of air they pull through my furnace filter is pretty similar, and even if the GTs are slightly better there, the Noctuas are far quieter.

    • @CarloVaccariPlus
      @CarloVaccariPlus 6 лет назад +7

      I used a high quality microphone on my DSLR with fixed audio gain from a set distance away in a silent room. In this way I could achieve repeatable results.
      Your ears are what will be listening to the fans in actual use, not a sound meter, so that's what really matters. If you want numbers, then wait for some other test.
      The only real limitation of the measurements I was able to take is the noise floor of my 60D's audio circuitry.
      In any case, the Noctuas are far quieter at low speeds, which is the most important regime for me; I turn my fans up to 100% only when I leave the room.

    It pays off to install the NF-A12x25 PWM in a push-pull configuration in front of and behind the cooler in the housing?

    that bracket to mount it on rads that are designed for 140mm fans is very cool, even mounting it on case where u have holes only for 140mm fans after modding for example. good stuff from noctua.

    I just bought 3 of it to replace my Gentle Typhoon on the 360 mm radiator.

    Especially in low rpm, worth to upgrade.

    To the people complaining about the color: For their "normal" fans they already have black versions. For this particular fan they are working on it, but the special plastic they are using here dosn't take color particles very well and that's why they are still working ont hat to get it right.

    I got one of these today but I’ve noticed the Y splitter has one 4 pin cable and one 3 pin cable. Is this correct? If so which plugs in where? The reason I ask is I have bought a 92mm noctua to replace my crappy factory exhaust fan and I’ve also now got this 120mm which I want as my intake. Only problem is that my motherboard only has one chassis fan header. My 92mm has a 3 pin connection and this 120mm has a 4 pin connection. However the 3 pin connectors on the Y splitter and the 92mm fan connector are different configurations so I’m not sure I can run both fans from one header.

    Is the NF-A15 in your chart a 1500 RPM (the one included when you buy for example a NH-D15 heatsink) or a 1200 RPM (the ones sold individually) model?

  • @waffle911
    @waffle911 6 лет назад +2

    Just put one of these in the same cooler on Wednesday. Trimmed the clips to fit easier. Newer Noctua heatsinks clip onto the outside face of the fan instead of the inside face like we have to for the NH-D14, so the new fan body isn't an issue on newer Noctua coolers. Does make you wonder why they shaped it that way, though.

    • @NoctuaVideos
      @NoctuaVideos 6 лет назад +9

      Because we need maximum stability and minimum tolerance on the frame all the way to the corners. The problem is that if the fan is fixed with screws that go all the way through the frame like on watercooling raditors and if users apply excessive torque, the frame would slightly deform without these additional reinforcements. With a fan that has such tight tolerances as NF-A12x25, this can be critical. We understand that it's not ideal with the D14's fan clips, but it works very well with all other (especially newer) coolers!

    • @waffle911
      @waffle911 6 лет назад +3

      Noctua_at Oh, cool! Then my next question is why are the reinforcement gussets shaped differently on adjacent corners?

    • @NoctuaVideos
      @NoctuaVideos 6 лет назад +7

      This is to allow the injection moulding tool to open after injection. This wouldn't be possible if all four corners had the rounded shape.

  • @yoadknux

    This was a very good review, thank you. I actually drew a different conclusion from your results: Unless you intend to run the Noctua at 100% (at which it will already be noisy), it would be better to purchase the Be Quiet! Silent Wings 3. Here's why: According to your tests, the NF-A12 at 70% has identical performance (dT=54c) and noise (33.4 vs 33.8 dBa) with the BQ SW3 at 100%. In my country, the NF-A12x25 costs 1.5 times more than the BW3, and this truly adds up when you buy a pair (or two pairs) to cool your radiator.
    The main difference between the two is that the Noctua can do higher than 70%, so if you need that extra cooling than the Noctua will deliever. But at that point it will already be noisy, and there are other noisy, high-performance fans that will not cost as much as the Noctua's.
    However, there are plenty of things to apperciate about those fans: The 140mm bracket (Although I think if you have cash to buy the most expensive fans on the market, you'd probably prefer a high-end 140mm fan), all the adapters Noctua adds, etc.

    IMO - So far the NF-A12x25 is the best 120mm Computer Muffin Fan created. Just wish 'the manufacturers'' would use these as Power Supply Fans, where good CFM, and Static Pressure to push that air flow through those grills is really essential. But how would those Sterox Fan Blades hold up to that heat over time? (If you want to run PWM fans at full speed, all you need is the +12V and Ground connections).

    • @chriswho12345

      They're literally gentle typhoon knock offs. The GTs had a better mid range static pressure and about the same dBa with a less annoying noise profile, and now Noctua is releasing fans with the same design. The same pressure graph was released with the GTs as well.

    • @The_Noticer.
      @The_Noticer. 6 лет назад +1

      Because industrial fans can be loud, consumer-grade fans have to be more acoustically... sane. Also, with any of the PWM models they have pretty low minimum RPM's, much lower than their competition. With decent software you can run these fans, in idle-mode, at such low RPM's they fall below room ambient.

  • @CreativeRamy
    @CreativeRamy 4 года назад +1

    Apologies, you say a few things in the video that kind of get me off guard like "they're not the quietest fans because it runs at 2000rpm" what are you talking about? Any fan running at that rpm would be loud and audible.
    Secondly why do you have the audio level meter right up to the fan? Noone measures the noise levels like this, when the fan is in your system on your desk how far away from your ears is it? Measure it at least from 40-60cm away and consider using a case at least, that's what you could say a real world review would be, not cushioned up hanging from some string trying to get it in an absorption box, it's not real.
    When the Noctua fans are run i.e. at 1000rpm or 1500 rpm they ARE quieter compared to many other fans on the market that are run at the SAME rpm.
    There's tens of other videos that prove this, I feel this review wasn't really thought out. There are things you say that are on par with others and things that are just not and may be just you rambling on trying to just say words without thinking.

    • @UnicornReviews
      @UnicornReviews  4 года назад

      Good point, I meant that as when running at max speed compared to other fans I have running at max speed. That comment was not related to the amount of air being moved or rpm. I'll keep this in mind for future videos

    • @CreativeRamy
      @CreativeRamy 4 года назад

      @@UnicornReviews I don't mean to come across harshly and apologies if that sounds like it, I'm being constructive here.
      I do appreciate the time you invested to make it, but ask yourself this, If what you meant wasn't clearly explained or delivered in your videos, then what purpose does it serve when people searching for reviews about this fan need to then decipher what you meant??
      This review is sub par and not up to scratch & there were other points in the video that clearly stuck out to me but it is what it is, you'll get there eventually I'm positive, work on your structure because few times you'd say one thing and conclude something opposing it, it's a very confusing video.
      Watch other channels and see their structure and delivery as examples like optimum tech and badseed. Anyway, thanks for your response.
      Personally I've purchased 4 of these as case fans and even thinking about swapping out the factory fans on the NZXT x73 radiator, because they're so quiet compared to others spinning at the same rpm. The a12x25 from noctua are one of the best quietest fans on the market at this point in time.

      why are you even here? They keep that color for marketing purposes... when people hear noctua, they instantly think about the tan/brown color scheme.

      They'll lose so many potential sales all because of Noctua's colorblind CEO. The red color is actually fine, but the tanned frame is super fugly.

      Bob Smith I'm well aware of the use of that iconic colour scheme for marketing purposes. There isn't much of a reason why they shouldn't put it in a more neutral colour scheme. As of late the 'fanbase' seems to be decreasing with the increase of RGB and the huge improvements of other fan brands.
      There's no way they could make tan aaannnd black fans 🤔

      They are already making black fans and from their exhibits, it looks like they are making more. Don't have this model yet unfortunately.
      I wish they make iPPC or at least black version of the S12A too, it is my favourite out of the bunch.
