  • First remove the 22mm socket size bolt which has that tube. It will already prevent major engine failure as the water can overflow outside of the engine. When water level ligth comes on the water has flown to ground. Behind that bolt there is plenty of grease. That grease will block the tiny hole that overflow hose has. This I recommend to do immediately even if you have not planned to change the pump. If you are buying a car which has new turbo I would recommend loosening that bolt. You will propably see lot of water coming out and you can be sure that pump is broken. If water come out the oil has lot of water in it and it wont lubricate enough. First turbo will break, then engine bearings and after that whole engine is ready to be scrapped...
Also monitor the oil level regularly It should not get higher unless there is problems. If the level rises when you loose the oil prop first should come out water if there is any inside the engine.
There should not come any water from that open 22mm socket size overflow hole unless you have problems with you water pump. Mine did not leak any water when engine was running, but when I stopped the car there came few drops out. So pump seals were not perfect anymore. I have no idea when pump had been changed if any. At the moment 260000km on the odo.
Buy a quality pump with casted impeller wheel. At least SKF have one. Plastic wheels migth break easier if there is some debris running in system or if the coolant freezes little for any reason.
You need the removal too kit
That 22mm bolt need to be taken out as most water will come out from that hole when you start to pull the pump outwards
    Remove pump according to instructions
Before installing new pump clean the hole where pump sits and lubricate the new pump seals so it goes in better. I was not able to push mine to bottom by hand even I lubricated it little. I needed to use the fastening bolts. Slowly turning them little each in turn.
Change the engine oils just to be sure there is no water in them.
After the pump change monitor the oil and water levels frequently for first tank just to be sure everything is working like it should. Its recommended that you change that pump every 90000km for precaution. If that overflow bolt is taken out you should see the need before its too late just look under the car when you pull over that no coolant is coming out.

I have an opposite problem... How on Earth do you put the damn thing back in? I cannot push the new pump back inside. I also cannot use any bolts to press the pump inside.

Did you grease/oil the rubber seals? . You push the pump roughly in place then push in place rest with the bolts, but first you need to be sure it's going correctly in

@@TunekoLtd I did, but all is well. I used slightly longer bolts (from the cover) to pull the pump into place. I left it like that overnight once I couldn't turn the screws anymore. In the morning the pump continued to be pressed in with no problem. Perhaps the constant tension allowed a seal to slide through.

I just learn this 2 or 3 years ago, when you need a water pump just buy a GRAF one....
