Hi, recently moved, first time gardening in an area where cucumber beetles are a problem. I heard of kaolin clay for that and for other pest, but only found the Surround WP brand in the US, and pretty expensive to get shipped here. Do you have a brand and/or supplier to recommend for the home gardener? Preferably in Canada and online. I really don’t need a 25 lb bag, I have maybe 8 plants to do.
Salut JMF!
Try tilling in a lot of compost and sand. Our native soil is what’s called Blue Clay and is very prone to compaction. The sand especially is a huge game changer.
JM, would you START market gardening as a 40 year old? Assume you've already done a good job saving for retirement from your previous career and you just need to have an encore career for income until you're able to retire. Wife also works and the farming wouldn't need to be our main source of income. And we own land already.
If you're healthy, why do you think starting age matters when you can access the best educational material in history and jump-start your knowledge? Find a 60-year old who's explained all his/her lessons learned, and you'll be where they are when you're only 40!
JMF is a blessing

I have trouble growing Radishes and turnips and most root crops what am I doing wrong. Any advice as to what to do would be awesome.
Most root crops don’t like growing in the heat, especially radishes. If you tried to plant them recently they might be having heat stress.

Hey JM. Nice shout out but I always thought G & co was your company dude? Your retirement plan!
I’m 68, and planning on retiring in 52 years.
We need to talk.
I'm 61 next month. Plan on retiring around the same, decades away.
By choice and need..
