      You don't know. I live in a government provided flat they paid to clear up a bed bug infestation and after I moved back in I found a live bed bug. Now many years after that the bugs are back. I've had enough. I'm on the 19th floor and it's very tempting I could jump My family has turned their back on me

    I got rid of bedbugs on my own. The most important thing is literally don't let the bed bugs bite! and use diatomaceous earth (D.E.). So, how do you not let bed bugs bite you? There are many ways.
    Isolate the bed (don't let the bed touch the wall or other furniture) and ad interceptors or barriers (bedbugs can't climb smooth surfaces such as plastic or glass) or traps (can be as simple as Duct tape stick side up. ) . The point is you create a barrier (you can also sleep covered - wearing socks and gloves and mosquito head net or bug net. ) Of course if you are going to isolate the bed make sure that you kill all bugs inside the mattress / bed with something like 90% alcohol or Chlorox/bleach if suitable. I also heard that plastic covers on the bed work very well and they make a lot of sense.

    To your first question: Yes. It's called "being asleep". Just get DE and powder around your bed and the bed frame. If you have bugs, they'll have to cross the DE to get to you, which will kill any bug that crawls through it. DON'T put DE in your sheets or clothes!!! While it is completely non toxic, it will irritate the hell out of your respiratory system and act like itching powder.

    There's a closet where I keep all my sheets and comforters. I haven't seen any bed within the last 3-6 months. However, when I did laundry today, I had decided to wash my current sheets. I went into the closet with sheets and comforters and selected the ones of my choice and put them on my mattress. Let me remind you, I haven't seen a bug on my bed within the last 3-6 months. No black spots. No eggs. No nothing. Just now, I was just lying down watching TV on my bed and when I looked to the side, I saw one little black dot moving across my pillow. I thought it was just a little fly or something but when I got closer, I found that it was a baby bed bug who seemed to just hatched. After making that discovery, I smashed it with my finger and began to examine the surrounding area of my bed. I found two more bugs, one that was scurrying towards me and one that already took a meal of me. At that point, I was petrified. I don't know what to do.

      I called exterminators in the past, there was no luck. I've been dealing with this problem for 4 on going years. It's not a serious infestation but I just hate the fact knowing you can't sleep in peace because you're conscious of little bugs biting you. I've tried solving this problem on my own; spraying mattresses, bed frames, cracks and crevices, setting bug bombs, and they just seem to be ineffective.

They are in the crinkles in the curtains and valances. If you spread those crinkles apart? You will find them there. Check not only the room-side crinkles, but the wall-side too. If you have them in your place? They WILL be in those crinkles and curtain rods. Wash 'Em.

    I saw a bedbug at my friend's house and I flipped out. We had bedbugs a few years ago at our house from a suitcase after a vacation and thankfully we didn't have an infestation it was only a few in each room but it cost so much money to exterminate them. So I guess my friend will have to understand that I will not be hanging around her. Even if it were any bug I hate all bugs.

  • @BedBugCentralTV

    this is a complicated topic, what you need to understand is if you sleep in another room the bugs will go out in search of food and find you, I'm not saying to "use yourself as bait to keep them in a room" but you need to know the potential consequences of sleeping around your house, it's a topic there's no easy answer to and you need to make the right decision for you

    I realized last week I had them and spent well over 50 hours in my bedroom bagging, removing clutter etc. I have minimized everything and dried everything. Covers checked today 1 week later and I found 1 on my bed and the small bed my daughter was using next to mine on the mattresses I bagged and 1 on the wall for a total of 3. There were no signs in the 2 glue traps, under my intermediate supports and the 4 moats I put under the other legs. I have literally a fitted white sheet and 1 blanket to make it easier during the nights when I wake up feeling a strange tickle or whatever....nothing with my spotlight or spot checks all week until I tipped up that box spring and found 1. My daughter was relocated to the adjoining room as she only stays on weekends, but I did find one between her mattresses that are covered and one on the wall directly behind it. We have linear run baseboard heat that I sprinkled diatomaceous earth at the beginning of the week. Seems like I must have missed something....any advice? I am concerned that they could migrate or may have done so already. My daughter has glue boards under all 4 and no signs on a new bed in the other room when I set it up to get her out of my bug zone.

    Put an Amazon Echo Dot in your bedroom. When you go to bed, say "Alexa, set a timer for 90 minutes". When the timer goes off, turn on your lights, throw off all your covers and inspect your bedsheet. If there are no bugs to be seen, re-set the Alexa timer for 90 minutes and perform the same inspection. Keep doing this throughout the night to make sure the bed bugs are not there.

    Isolating rooms is often not a good plan for bed bugs. With no food present they will sit and wait for some time for someone to sleep in the room again and therefore not come into contact with pesticides. I can't say whether or not it will work without seeing the infestation myself but room isolation is often not an effective plan.

  • @virginia7125
    @virginia7125 3 года назад +3

    It took me 5 different brands of pesticides to completely rid mine. An oil lamp lit around a troubled area will work to lure them out if hiding. They're attracted to heat & CO². After a week of no activity you can say they're pretty much sure gone. Check under carpets, dressers, magazines, etc... I thought mine were gone & found a few hanging around papers near the floor. I've found old non-hatched eggs behind wall pictures.

    rubbing alcohol can kill them on contact but remember that it is flammable, they don't live on your body and therefore treating yourself shouldn't be necessary, I would recommend running the dryer cycle for the full amount of time, it all depends how much clothes you have in the dryer and if they are wet or not

We used DE, and you can tell it does kill the bugs, but it was messy looking and you have to be patient. We have two teenagers, so we needed to move on to a different method in order to allow them to have friends over. Decided to go with a privately owned professional service. tough question to answer, if it's only 2 nights the bugs may not move off of his bed that quick but there's no way for me to say for sure, I also question that only 1 room is infested, we usually recommend treating all bedrooms and couches to assure nothing is missed, treating only the rooms where bugs are seen with the naked eye is a recipe for failure, remember the bugs are small and hide well

I got them from a former friend who had them at his house and he didn’t tell me until he came over to my house one day and I kicked him out. The next day, I look at my bed after doing the baking soda treatment, I have found no bed bugs as of this morning and I have no marks. I’m doing the heat treatment as of now. I got all my heaters on high and I bought bed bug killer spray and I’m gonna see if that helps but I’m pretty sure it does cause I heard it did. I used this kind of spray for fleas and it got rid of them in an instant. I would say go for the heat treatment as that will kill bed bugs in an instant and leave the heat on for about 90 minutes or more however I would just keep the heat on for 24-48 hours

    I have read that the eggs can go dormant for up to a year and a half, bedbugs upto a year, or year and a half. Other sources said 2 weeks, and others said 6 months. What's with all the inconclusive or conflicting information out there?
    We had bugs over a year ago in the rooming house I am renting in, and sprayed twice on my floor, (was told by landlords it was 3 times though) and this last summer in a third room on the second floor once to my knowledge.
    Now, I seen a bedbug in my roommate's room (same floor as my room - top floor) one night at the end of November ; mid December, I found a bit of an infestation on my bed. Both times, I told the landlords. This year, as happened last year, they went back and forth between blaming me and my roommate. The third room that was sprayed in the summer, at first I was told it was for fruit flies. In mid-December, the story changed to grass fleas (while they pressed the bedbug infestation was my fault). Rewind to about 4 years ago from now, the previous landlord sprayed 4 times and replaced furniture...
    I share this all with you because I am wondering: WTActualF is going on? Is it us reintroducing, or is it in fact possible that these bugs can go dormant for up to a year and a half, hiding away in the walls, heating vents, etc.???
    oh - and this time, my landlords have yelled at me that they "can't keep spraying" so I am now trying alternative methods (isopropyl alcohol 91%, straight and as part of a mix with tea tree oil and water) , bagging and keeping bagged clothes and items, laundering, regular cleaning regimen, and will soon be getting the DE...
    I feel so alone in the immediate battle in front of me between this regimen, arguing that it needs to be treated and the landlords as well as my one roommate thinking I'm crazy.... please... help...

      should also add that even though there is no pest control coming in this time, my landlords did splurge for a bedbug mattress protector for one of 2 mattresses on my bed, and covered me for the 2nd until I paid them back for that one. Also, they brought 2 cans of Great Value bedbug spray (but for some reason, I could only find one when I was ready to spray...)

    research has yet to determine if residual application to the perimeter of the room quarterly or monthly assists at any level in preventing bed bug infestations in the future, it's largely thought that it probably has little to no effect but research has to yet to confirm

    So, after successful treatment..would you recommend a light monthly pesticide spraying (say, perimeters) to ensure you keep killing any bugs for a year or more? Since they can go so long without a blood meal, that seems the only way to make sure you get any that are hiding in the walls/crevices/etc. What I want to avoid is having to do the twice-daily vacuuming and washing-bagging everything, all over again!

  • @ssmith5743

    Anyone actually get rid of these using tee tree oil and DE? We vacuumed everything and put DE absolutely everywhere. Sprinkled all through carpet, in any crack or hole I could find in our bed and put around all baseboards as well. We also purchased a mattress and box spring cover. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! We are to the point every time we leave the house we heat our clothes on sterilize for an hour and when we get home we heat our clothes on sterilize as well.

    Are you saying to use yourself as bug bait? Surely you are not serious. I vacated my room over a month ago. I sleep on my living room sofa instead of my spare bedroom as the two rooms are close together and I'm afraid they will visit me in the middle of the night. My arms are scarred. There is no way am going back to that room anytime soon. It's being treated as well as the other room next door but I feel I cannot ever sleep there again. It will not be anytime soon.

    Hi Bed Bug TV,
    How effective are interception devices around the legs of the bed? Latelty, I have seen about one bed bug a day, and or receiving a bite or two every other day or so. They are mainly contained in my room, and I am now sleeping on an air matress in the middle of my room while my matress/boxspring/headboards have been sitting in the arizona summer for the past week. Do you think I should buy a new bed a live a little more normally? I have been receiving the traditional treatment also, I am still seeing one a day as I said.

      Bed bugs are all over the middle east best thing you could do is heat the home somehow in the summer heat till 120F for 5 to 7 hours. If you live in a multi residence place unless you treat the entire building they will never go away. I've been told that they have spread due to prayer mats get bugs in them and traveling with the matts.

    He said, 50 to 60 days if you don't see bugs and have no bites they are probably gone. Also if you set traps at the bed foot and don't see bugs for 50 to 60 days and no bugs they're probably gone. This is not 100%, but in general.

    Is it possible to have brought just ONE home with me?
    I went on an airplane trip, and a couple days after my return, I found a bug in my bed. I'm still unsure if it is a bed bug or tick. I caught it and put it in 2 Ziploc baggies (lol)
    My purpose was to observe (to see how long it'll live w/o food n air, or If it'll have babies, how long, to that specific bug, or to time gestation, etc.) That was 4 MONTHS AGO! IT'S STILL ALIVE!!
    I have washed ALL linens every week, sprayed 90% alcohol everywhere daily, and sprinkled A LOT of baking soda on any carpet in the house.
    I regularly check the bed seams, and spray alcohol. (I already had a mattress cover)
    I've not seen any more in these 4 months, is it possible that was the only one? Is there anything else I should or should not do?

      +Bed Bug TV (Jeff White) convenienttermite.com/ is the company that came to my apartment both times it was the same guy and he said he had 20 years of experience of dealing with bed bugs. He said they was bed bugs but that we did not have any type of infestation. Just that he seen a few and that was about it. We packed up everything we had in trash bags both times and had to be out of our apartment for 4 hours, no less because he said the chemicals they use was too strong to be around. Since i found those 2 bugs i have checked and checked and have not found or seen anything. I just want to get rid of these things no matter what they are. I am a full-time college student and my girlfriend is physically disabled. So it is very hard on us to keep packing everything up and do these expensive treatments. I looked up bat and swallow bugs and they do look a lot like the bugs i have seen but like i said the exterminator said they was bed bugs but i have never found anything like the situations or images i have seen when i look up bed bugs. I don't know what to do.

      +jason cooper unfortunately I'm not sure what I can really do for you, the last thing I can say is that I don't understand the pest control person's opinion of "you don't really have an infestation, I only saw a few bugs"...either you have them or you don't, if you found any bugs it needs to be addressed....I would recommend getting another opinion or going to the landlord and seeing what they are doing in the building and if any surrounding units have problems

    Is it possible to have only one bug? I was getting bit every three-four days, and ended up finding one bed bug. I thoroughly searched for them after finding the one and found no other bugs, no eggs, and only a few spots of excrement and a couple skin sheds. I treated for them, and did everything I could possibly do, and haven't found any signs or had any bites since, and it's been a week. I also put down powder around the door going into my closet and around the heat registers near my bed, moved my bed away from the wall, and put sticky traps around the legs. I've found no bugs in the powder or the traps.

    • @moxtr
      @moxtr 8 лет назад +1

      I doubt you had just one but you never know, if you treated the residence well hopefully between the pesticides (contact and residual and dusts) and after vacuuming and perhaps steaming you hopefully solved your problem. I like Temprid SC and Cimexa for a DIY job but I went to a good professional as well. I am in the same boat and was diligent and hopefully bed bug free but my concern is that I got them before they spread to neighboring apartments. I bought interceptors for my neighbors too but have to cut some wood to put under them as they have carpeting. I will keep my fingers crossed for us both. I am not an expert but I have been through this twice in 5 years and have researched the issue quite a bit.

      +Cory in AZ It's now been 8 days since I've seen one or been bit. I check several times a day at different times of the day. I've been washing my sheets regulary, ever couple days. The day after I found the one I washed everything in my room that could possibly be washed in hot water and put in the dryer on hot for an hour. I vacuumed with a very nice and expensive vacuum cleaner, and vacuumed again after six days. I put down the powder around the registers, cause they could hide in there. Also in front of the closet door. I spray the matress all over with rubbing alcohol every couple days, vacuum the matress with a shop vac, I have a matress encasement over the box spring but could only afford one of them. I also cleaned everything in the room with hot soapy water, and spray the dresser drawers with rubbing alcohol every couple of days. So far no bites, no signs, and no bugs spotted. I haven't moved any clothes or anything back into the room, just sheets, pillows, and a quilt.

      +Bed Bug TV (Jeff White) I would love to pick your brain .... the pest control company that my apartment manager uses (and my apartment manager) seems to be less than helpful on eradicating these little nuisances. I immediately threw out the mattress and box springs where I found them. I pulled up all the baseboards in the bedrooms and pulled the carpet back from the walls. took apart my bed, removed everything from closets, dressers, bathroom cabinets.They have sprayed twice with zenprox. I still see two or three bugs a day. I have been vigilant on this since I found them. I have also bombed with hotshot bed bug and flea. saw bugs the same day. I took straight bleach and sprayed all the baseboards and the entire bathroom. it has been a month since I first discovered them in my daughters room.....now I don't see them in there, but still see them in the bathroom and this morning found two in my room for the first time. what else should I do? I am so ready to pull my hair out!!!!!

    • @BedBugCentralTV
      @BedBugCentralTV  9 лет назад +3

      +Heather Aymond it's really tough for me to comment on what exactly is going on without seeing it myself, lots of different factors can drive what the bugs are doing, the reason your finding them in the bathroom is most likely due to the fact that you are using bug bombs, I would strongly suggest not doing that anymore as they will push bugs into unpredictable locations, beyond that I'd have to see the infestation myself and understand what is being applied where, etc...

    I would suggest using CO2 to bring them to a trap, if you trap them there would be no reason to "spray" them, that being said this technique won't solve most infestations by itself
