  • Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton says Vicky White's death is sad, but not a surprise.
"Knowing Vicky and what she'd be facing coming back - and more than facing the charges, facing her family and coworkers - I was just concerned that would really weigh on her and if it came down to a situation like it did today this would be the result."

As a former correctional officer I’ll say this. After two years of “her” being in a relationship with an inmate, her coworkers are either totally incompetent or knew and said nothing. If other inmates knew, they would leverage that against her for favors as well. Drugs, smokes, cell phones something. This facility needs to be looked at in a big way. I’ll guarantee she’s not the only bad Apple.

Yes let’s ALL thank the man at the car wash who tried to tell the police sooner about spotting Casey White after he looked through the surveillance footage and yet the police brushed him off initially and did not take him seriously the first time and he became frustrated at the police for not taking his call seriously. They better give him the reward money. He deserves it 100%.

You aren't going to believe this, but I saw the same news on another channel here, about them being captured due to an attendant at a car wash.
Anyway, someone in the comment section wrote that the person at the car wash should receive a beat down for being a snitch.

I thought about this over and over and I could not have imagined Vicky would have been willing to face everyone if ever caught. There are some things which people do where they feel there is way too much of a heavy price to pay that they would rather not. That being said, it's just sad and horrific because her family will be mourning the loss and won't have all the answers as to why.

Have faith in JESUS CHRIST as LORD and SAVIOR for HE SAVES ❗️
      *What is the Gospel?*
The true gospel is the good news that God saves sinners. Man is by nature sinful and separated from God with no hope of remedying that situation. But God, by His power, provided the means of man’s redemption in the death, burial, and resurrection of the Savior, Jesus Christ.
      Ephesians 2:8-9
For it is by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of GOD, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
      Romans 10:9
9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
      JESUS CHRIST can come anytime!

I agree with you very much indeed. Perhaps this is another segment of our institutions where a reasonable focus is needed on how emotional/mental issues can be caused or exacerbated by the proximity between an inmate and a guard, especially of the opposite sex.
It seemed long overdue to consider this as an occupational hazard. It is truly awful considering that the system itself may have failed this woman whose impeccable dedication to her work was unmatched. Unfortunately, her character is now maligned, assassinated, and demonized by the public and the media.

I understand wholly what the sheriff means when he says how badly Vicky's death will affect the other employees. And I also know how Vicky could fall prey to Casey White. My son has a friend who has been in prison numerous times; he's now 50. His entire body is tattooed from the top of his head to the soles of his feet - and I mean EVERYWHERE. My son has also been to prison on a drug related crime. Both of them talked about how easy the female employees in the prison are to bribe by compliments and that there is some kind of attraction to having a captive audience with an inmate. The tattooed friend has been in and out of prison for 30 years, and every prison he was in, he had a female guard that would sneak him drugs, cell phones, cigarettes and every other contraband you can think of. I've seen it myself. Vicky is 56 years old, Casey is 36. She has reached retirement age, and had no one in her life. She sold her house for this guy! She ruined her perfect work record for him! That's why she killed herself; she couldn't face up to her friends with whom she worked. She knew how it was going to end. I feel sorry for all those she left behind.

I never understood what the term "There's no fool, like an old fool" until now. Even having a long term career and "certain" things accomplished along the way, you can still be sad and unfulfilled inside. This woman was 56, single with a dog, and Mom for family. This guy was younger by almost 20 years and probably saw her as easy pickings after a few small conversations. She just risked it all for "Love" but didn't maintain her boundaries of loving herself first, sad. People who work these jobs should be in constant psychological therapy.

Same as having work 'friends' as to having those friends you choose to spend your social time with. They should be separate. Don't mix business with pleasure, they say, and its true as they don't really mix the majority of the time. You can choose your friends in a social capacity but not necessarily in a work capacity. The Sheriff didn't truly know Vicky White and that is the truth and to be expected because having great conduct at work, to a point, does not mean this extends to your social and private life. Her private life was falling apart, as soon as she mixed her professional life with her private life, by getting involved with Casey White.

People need to quit trying to make women sound like "vulnerable" victims when they commit crimes. Vicki was a PROFESSIONAL Correctional Officer and literally hours away from retirement. If female Corrections Officers are susceptible to manipulation then perhaps all Correctional Officers should be banned from working in facilities of the opposite sex. Claiming that Vicki was a "vulnerable woman" is just as bad as claiming that a male pedophile committed sex with an underage girl because he was a "vulnerable man." Being lonely and/or depressed is no excuse to commit a crime, you're not a victim just because you're not satisfied with life and anyone who wears a badge for a living should know that better than anyone.

As a retired corrections officer, what amazes me is that it seems that no one snitched out the unauthorized personal relationship between Vicky White and Casey White. Despite the adage of "Snitches get stitches and or get found in ditches", it is common for inmates to snitch and it is standard correctional policy to give inmates anonymous means to do so-- especially, if the jail is certified by the American Correctional Association, which has standards that correctional facilities have to follow. It is also a work rule violation, which can lead to removal, if any employee doesn't report an unauthorized personal relationship between a staff member and an inmate immediately after the employee becomes aware of it. Inmates claimed that they knew about special favors given by Vicky White to Casey White and they did snitch about it afterwards. This makes me wonder if inmates snitched about the unauthorized personal relationship before the escape occurred and jail employees decided not to report it even though Vicky White's name was ringing inside the jail like a bell. Unauthorized personal relationships occur in correctional facilities because it is human for people to fall in love. I've seen managers, supervisors, corrections officers, secretaries, and support personnel (like maintenance and food service workers) removed after engaging in unauthorized relationships. However, before they were removed, their names were ringing like a bell among the inmate population, which gets snitched to prison staff, because despite what the general population thinks, snitching is very common in a correctional facility. I've worked in correctional facilities for male inmates and for female inmates, and what I said is true for both.

One way to do this even if an inmate doesn't want to do so directly to a staff member is by sending a prison "kite" or letter to the shift commander, chaplain, or jail administrator without signing his or her real name.
This can be done by dropping the kite addressed to a prison staff member with the regular mail, sliding it under the staff member's room door, or by leaving it on a staff member's desk.
Stone cold killers are common in correctional facilities, but they still get snitched on. Despite what you've seen in movies or on televisions, correctional facilities are far different in reality. Snitching is a common practice. Some snitch out of convenience (like wanting to get a violent inmate with a shank in the hole (a disciplinary control cell)-- especially if the violent inmate has a beef with him or her. Some snitch to get a reward (like special consideration at a future parole hearing for being cooperative with authorities). Some inmates are just "out and out snitches", who snitch because they like feeling important and getting other people (both staff and inmates) in trouble. There are "dry snitchers" too, who snitch indirectly-- like when a dry snitcher walks by a corrections officer saying, "That's some crazy sh#t going on in the showers" because he doesn't want to directly say that a rape is taking place there.

Those who worked in correctional facilities know what "Downing a duck" means. Downing a duck is the techniques used by sly inmates to manipulate and control corrections employees. You can easily find a RUclips video on it. Every corrections employee will be tested sooner or later by manipulative inmates. This is an occupational hazard. However, although an unauthorized personal relationship sometimes occur in correctional facilities, it is almost impossible for an unauthorized personal relationship between a staff member and an inmate to go unnoticed by other staff and inmates. There must have been rumors swirling in the jail about the unauthorized relationship. I also question what other work rule violations occurred before the escape. For instance, I bet Casey White was given a lot of contraband for a long time, like outside fast food, cigarettes, lighters, illegal drugs, weapons, and etc..., while he had Vicky White on a hook. If so, Casey White must have been paying other inmates in the know in some way for their silence. The sheriff should conduct a mass shakedown of the entire jail since he is now aware that there was a massive breach of security ('a dirty staff member" in a high position) at the jail on his watch.
