    Hi guys … always catch your uploads ... back from day 1 - always good info.
    Presently restoring a '67 GTO … arriving at the point of installing some new front inner fender shields when I caught your upload on the sidebar here … (cool coincidence it was). Good points u share in the use of the adhesive and wire.
    I myself had wanted a 'better fit and appearance' than the use of the original shields supplied by a few of the aftermarket makers ((not to shun NPD)) but hey - they only supply not make em right ... (a plug --> yes NPD is a good out-source that I've used in the past).
    SO anyways … I bought a roll of neoprene off a supply house at ebay that specializes in (u guessed it) all things 'neoprene' … this is readily available in a variety of thicknesses and dimensions (roll or sheet) for any purpose needed (such as 'splash shields'). The important thing is "not" to order too thin a 'mil thickness' for the job at hand.
    I know - inquisitive minds will want to know ... 'my choice' ... ( 1/8" with 60 duro ) ... duro = temp. resistance and longetivity against failure. The cost was very minimal - (actually far cheaper than buying 'pre-made') … I can make 6 for 2 of those as an example (lol) + the better fit and better appearance is the end result - "a win win situation".
    You've already displayed the wire vs. staple technique SO no worries there for those looking for them there correct staples since those aren't supplied as in a 'pre-made kit' AND for those who would rather have that 'original' factory appearance than the usage of rivets - which yes, do work as well.
    Keep those uploads a comin' … your 'tips and techniques' for the DIY'er are always appreciated - along with added humor of course … just wouldn't be the same without ... :)

    The custom staple idea is good and looks much easier and neater. I thought it would be nice to use heavy gauge stainless aircraft safety wire and do a twist/tuck on the metal side to get great tension and have the sharp edges out of the way. Aircraft or racing mechanics will know what this is, but for those unfamiliar, the technique can easily found on RUclips vids. Thanks for the good content!

      You'll know now! I always put stuff in my mental "quiver" when I find tasty info. Makes me look smarter than I am. This one came out of my uncle and my's frustration with this "activity". We worked out the best way to do it. Not quite as effective when dealing with the rubber topper on radiator core supports, for those we use a little tougher wire.

    If eyes never see the work, pop rivets work well if used with a backer washer. Sometimes that is all that will work. Saves a lot of time, too.

      Ya I’m dealing with these right now, bought two sets made by Dennis carpenter, they aren’t made right, not even close. Love that DC makes parts but I’ve found many that aren’t right on my build

      Old thread but this comment remains valid for the 67 ford pickup. The DC splash shield fit great on one side...does not fit the other, not even close to being correct.

    Now I know how to reinstall the tag (sport custom option) on the front of the box, even though no one will see it lol I have a lot of specialty tools, but not a stapler that'll punch through metal.

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  5 лет назад

      The issue was that we didn't have a car that was at that point. I typically don't do splash shields until the car is done. The '67's were already finished, The Blue car was so far from paint (still is) that it would have been hard to justify, and Cam's car...well....
