I worked in HOLLYWOOD for 40 years in various crafts, but I was always an historian especially for 20th Century-Fox... I first heard the name JOHN CHAMBERS shortly after seeing PLANET OF THE APES in a theater during it's original release, and my eyes were opened to his iconic career...
The tribute that his fellow artists put together and indeed with the magnificent documentary salute MAKING APES; well, it has to be one of the best behind-the-scenes I've ever seen in this business.
Chambers sharing his genius with so many, putting the craft before personal gain, just wanting the art of make-up to revolutionize and offer up new possibilities for movies... what an achievement!
Like so much else that is changing in HOLLYWOOD right now, the likes of John Chambers and numerous others in all the movie-making crafts are fast becoming ancient history with CGI and Artificial Intellegence taking over that artistry and human element. The fact that someone with a mouse and a laptop can create scripts, actors, scenery, costumes etc. for audiences that are just as humanoid as everything else... well, being a Baby Boomer I'm so glad and grateful I was around to be a part of HOLLYWOOD history that was very human and very memorable!
    Thank you Mr. Essman...

I can't believe I just found this and only 8 comments as of today. This is one of the best POTA vids I've seen. A very nice tribute for an incredible artist, John Chambers. I have been a POTA fan since my parents took my brother and me to see it in 1968 and I just can't get enough of stuff like this. It was great seeing Roddy McDowell and Martin Landau too. Thank you Scott for uploading this.

At the time and for a number of years she lived in Greenwich Village up until her passing a few years ago. Guess she couldn't make the trip out west. I'm sure she was invited. Great actress!

Does anyone know who John gave his Oscar to? He told me that he was giving it to a fan when he died
