They on the same team. That metaphor is poor and you disrespected that movie and this track by comparing the two. I think there should be hip hop teachers all over the internet correcting your essays. Imagine if ?uestlove instilled some advice on your insights and gave you a B minus?

I believe that more of of these seemingly rare gems exists than the corporate airwaves will allow the masses to believe. Music is power=>hiphop is truly a language universal=>the suits in the big offices don't want empowerment amongst the impacted commoners (the core fans)=>said big suits make sure to promote bullsh!t that confuses=>the mainstream rap game in 2016 and beyond.

    [Verse 1: Jay Electronica]
Have you ever ever ever been depressed so bad
It was a struggle every day not to regret your past
Feeling cursed like you never ever get your swag
And you was speeding down the highway when your threshold pa**
When you cried all your tears out
And one page of your diary can tell you what your year 'bout
    That's a lonely place
My mama said “Son, why such a lonely face?”
    Because the pressure's on me
Plus I feel like Bill Murray trapped in Punxsutawney
Dr. Phil told me that I can sell crack or hit the army
Look at where we live at
Tell me you don't hear that
Tell me you don't feel that
Show me to the way out
Tell me when pastor Raphael gon' reveal that
If not, man I'm outta here
I'm just a sleep walking robot that's outta gear
I stick my nose out the water to the sky for air
    Lama sabachthani
I'm trying to see light but the devil trying to blind me
The grim reaper walking with his shovel right behind me
Trying to introduce me to the untimely unkindly
I Walk the line finely like Johnny Cash
But I keep getting visits from the ghost of the past
So I spark another L then I go to the pad
    [Bridge]
    [Verse 2: Kendrick Lamar]
Yeah I can reconcile being depressed real bad
I'm a thinker not a drinker but still I hennessy drag
Alcohol numbs the pain like with novacane stabs
In your arteries pardon me but my city go mad
Via Compton California, corners with coroners and karma on em
Colors corresponding to gangs upon us
Common corrupted crip & piru's cripple the city
Triple the crime, Bible nor the Qur'an can save
Welcome don't be afraid, your city similar right?
Where the choppers kidnap the night and police silence your rights
Stare at the sky wonder will you live to see 25?
    I'm 22 at 20 I knew I was against the odds
This kid named Jonathan was monitorin'
His momma & sister, his older cousin he honoured him
Anonymous bodies on his burner was astonishin'
To Johnny he might have been a modern day rider then
He walking outside again, he see the lifestyle of an active member
Pull out a mac 11, now his eyes is big
Fascinated by mayhem, what's his cousin to say now?
He wanna be from the hood that he's from and thats one
More gangster under the family tree, took em under his wings like KFC
Crip crazy, rocking matching t-shirts that says “the hood made me”
No love just spread slugs thats the policy, the leader and the prodigy
Now shorty do-wap, holdin a ou-wap, hanging with rah rah's with blah blah's
That sit on the block catching fades, hitting licks, going on missions with lunatics
A 9th grade menace thugging for 6 months, smoking like 6 blunts
An hour the power of banging, he was walking… *3 Gun Shots*
    Little Johnny
    [Outro: Malcolm X]
I think you'll find, sir, that there will come a time
When black people wake up and become intellectually independent enough to think for themselves
As other humans are intellectually independent enough to think for themselves
Then the black man will think like a black man and he will feel for other black people
And this new thinking and feeling will cause black people to stick together
And then at that point you'll have a situation
Where when you attack one black man, you are attacking all black men
And this type of black thinking will cause all black people to stick together
And this type of thinking also will bring an end
To the brutality inflicted upon black people by (black people)
And it is the only thing that will bring an end to it
No federal court, state court or city court will bring an end to it
It's something that the black man has to bring an end to

jay electronica is not a "rapper." Nay, he is a poet. He does not have an "act" nor does his work speak to a cultural fad or a trend. This is timeless. This music is a mixture of some of the best combinations of words that our language has to offer. This will live forever. In a 100 years the people will need light for guidance and THIS music will be the source. Not rack city. Not twerking trap lords. But this.. thank you jay electronica. I know your new album will be nothing short of incredible.

Anyone interested, this song was originally just Jay Electronica spitting on an unfinished track with a bunch of speech samples from 2007. Kendrick dropped his version on one of his mixtapes from 2010. This is both merged together. Also, IIRC the beat was released by itself on one of Just Blaze's beat tapes from 2005.

***** I knew you'd attack the weakest link in the lineup. Notice you aint say shit about the other emcees.
Truth is mixtape Drake has dropped some of the illest/unique bars EVER. Rumors are that he ghost-wrote most shit on Carter III, and that album is straight legendary. That really isn't farfetched and I believe he did. Drake maybe a young Garnier Fructis ass fool but you cannot deny both him and Weezy absolutely raped the game in 2008 - 2012.
And the nigga essentially created his own punchline style of rap (hashtag rap). Jay E is great but saying he's top 5 is ignorant.

    • @BangSkeeet
      @BangSkeeet 10 лет назад +3

You're ignorant. You just take lyrics at face value, you don't know shit about the intricacies of substance-rap.
Listen to songs like Sing For The Moment by Eminem or Failure by Lupe. Or Lose Yourself by Em and the same freestyle by Lupe. Kendrick's shit too is damn near mind-blowing.
      Or anything by motherfuckin NAS

      @walter91974 10 лет назад +6

millachipmunk True indeed. If someone can add Big L on a top 5 list and leave off Rakim, their list is nonsense. And Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Black Thought, Common, JayZ, Big Pun, Andre 3000, B.I.G. and Jay Electronica should be able to make the list on somehow as ties at whatever spot. Drake aint nothing but a Kanye clone. And if you goin off the strength of his mixtapes; then you need to throw Papoose in the mix. Same style and same type of punchline delivery. This is just coming from an old school cat that calls gats toolies...

Tha4thWonder DNA, YAH, LOYALTY, HUMBLE, LOVE, even XXX all are way shallower than any of his older songs except for No Make Up and Real. Do you honestly disagree?

    • @NegiZero
      @NegiZero 4 года назад +5

@@counterstrike1110 Whole heartedly disagree, I'm wondering if you even know what shallow means. YAH, he discusses his place in the cosmos and whether or not a generational curse has plagued him and his people, DNA is raw lyricism, craft, anger and frustration against those who explicitly hate him and blacks as a whole but proclaims that we have royalty in our DNA. XXX is profound and highlights the hypocracy in his standing as a influential figure, he may preach a message of tolerance and nonviolence to kids but in his own city there may be someone he wants revenge against. Theres depth to each of these songs and I could go on and on. Just because the music on DAMN. is more accessible and utilizes a more trendy and modern style in its beat selection and just because hes not "underground" anymore doesn't mean he's compromised his artistry, in fact its the contrary he continues to evolve and elevate his art and time continues.

Talib Kwele, Mos Def, and Common been on the lyrical mountian... but the hip hop community was not ready for solid rap, (like dark chocolate), it took understanding society from ground up. I'd argue tho that Jay electronica..
All his body of work prior to signing with the record label is superior to section 80.

Have you ever ever ever been depressed so bad
It was a struggle every day not to regret your past
Feeling cursed like you never ever get your swag
And you be speeding down the highway when your threshold pass
When you cried all your tears out
And one page of your diary can tell you what your year bout
    That's a lonely place
My mama said son why such a lonely face
Because the pressures (depression) on me
Plus I feel like bill murray trapped in Punxsutawney
Dr phil told me that I can sell crack or hit the army
Look at where we live at
Tell me you don't hear that
Tell me you don't feel that
Show me to the way out
Tell me when pastor raphael gon' reveal that
If not man I'm outta here
I'm just a sleep walking robot that's outta gear
I stick my nose out the water to the sky for air
Lama sabachthani (translates to 'why have you forsaken me')
Trying to see light but the devil trying to blind me
The grim reaper walking with a shovel right behind me
Trying to introduce me to the untimely unkindly
Walk the line finely like johnny cash
But I keep getting visits from the ghost of the past
So I spark another l then I go to the pad.

He wanna be from the hood that he's from and that's one
More gangster under the family tree, took em under his wings like KFC
Crip crazy, rocking matching t-shirts that says "the hood made me"
No love just spread slugs thats the policy, the leader and the prodigy
Now shorty do-wap, holdin a ou-wap, hanging with rah rah's with blah blah's
That sit on the block catching fades, hitting licks, going on missions with lunatics
A 9th grade menace thugging for 6 months, smoking like 6 blunts
An hour the power of banging, he was walking
