Tell Your Story (Jesus Heals a Demoniac - Mark 5)

In Mark 5, Jesus encounters a man possessed by a “Legion” of demons. It’s one of the most explosive stories we find in the gospels about who Jesus is, what he’s capable of, and what our response to his redemptive work in our lives should look like. As we unpack this passage, we find that no one is irredeemable and that our stories are the most valuable asset we have for expanding God’s kingdom. Freed from the demons, the demoniac begged to follow Jesus. Instead, Jesus told him to go home and tell others how much God had done for him. And we know that he did because when Jesus returned to the Decapolis in Mark 7, 4,000 people showed up to listen to him for three days. Mark is letting us know that the man was faithful to tell his story, and his story unleashed a wave of redemptive activity. So often we hesitate to share the good work God has done in our lives for fear of rejection, but when we muster the vulnerability and courage to do so it unleashes encouragement, inspiration, and hope in the lives of others. Your story matters, and it’s time to start telling it.
