Question, how do you make a puppy hold still? I dont have a grooming table - do you have any suggestions on a DIY tablle at home? My pup squirms so much.

Great question. Did you get a response ?

Not sure if my response went through. Patience is key with puppies as they are learning. This is why table work is so important. They squirm far less on a table than the floor. (used tables can be found on FB marketplace, and new ones that are quite afforable on Amazon and some pet stores.) You can start with 5 -10 minutes per day. Stack them and when they are still, reward. Be kind, but firm. Puppies need to learn that its their job to allow you to handle them. I like to give treat rewards, this is especially helpful with nails.

My griffon has had his legs shaved by the vet after being caught in barbed wire. This was almost 10 months ago and his coat on legs is growing back very poorly. Is there anything i can do to help his coat grow back? I am sad and upset as it is clearly ruined but there was no choice but to shave the legs. Hope you vould advise. Best!

Sorry to hear that. Some griffon coats grow very slowly. There isn't much we can do, but have patience. Depending upon the scars, quite often hair doesn't grow thickly there. You could try a biotin supplement, but there is no guarantee that will speed up the hair growth.

When you say puppy coat. At what age is it time for this ?

I start grooming early so they get used to it. But you will notice some matts starting to form around 5 months...and 5-9 months it is important to groom regularly to get that puppy coat put so the harsher adult coat can come in.

If I send mine to a groomer and they shave it like a poodle not knowing what they're doing, is the coat ruined forever? Or will it return to normal over time?

If they shave your griffon, depending upon the quality of the coat, it can take a very long time to grow back properly. It will grow, but patience is key. Also the coat will be soft and harder to strip...but proper handstripping as it grows back will over time correct the coat.

@@GroveDogs Thank you! I've been looking at getting a WPG for about a year now. I love almost everything about them. Just a bit concerned with grooming.
