- This clip may be of (most) relevance to those inexperienced hunters who wish to backpack into remote places at some stage.
Please understand that I have based this clip from my own experiences and knowledge of backpack hunting. The types of equipment and how I use it should in no way be misunderstood as instructional or rely upon information. There are plenty of options and ideas for backpack hunting; I've merely taken you through my list and ultimately your gear selection should take into account factors such as time of year, terrain, weather conditions, hunter's level of experience etc.
This simple but functional hunting equipment was used in my 5 day backpack hunt in late May of 2018 for sambar in the Victorian Alpine National Park. The 5 day film series is available here
day 1 • Day 1 - Backpack Samba...
day 2 • Day 2 - Backpack Samba...
day 3 • Day 3 - Backpack Samba...
day 4 • Day 4 - Backpack Samb...
day 5 • Day 5 - Backpack Samba... (this film)
Goodluck planning your next backpack hunting trip
Cheers
MM

One of the best no bullshit vids about pack hunting essentials on RUclips! Love your work mate👍
Josh Glover cheers josh
Some good info in there Jamie. I am glad to see I am not the only silly bugger carrying so much gear. I don't believe many realise the extra gear required to be taken in to achieve some of these videos. I for one appreciate your efforts and look forward to any video that comes from your trip in May. Good luck and enjoy.
Bolt-Action Productions thanks fior watching mate. Yes; I cannot wait to get back over!! It's crazy, but when I look back over the years, the memories that stand out over anything else (exeption being wedding day and my two daughters' birth) are the big backpack missions. Just a shame i don't have big mountains at my finger tips here in WA!!
Sounds like an excuse to move east to Vic. Then the mrs would never have you home. LOL.
Bolt-Action Productions yes totally agree. Victoria would be a great state to live in for sure
Thanks for one of the best gear vids on backpack hunting. Living in east Gippsland I’m blessed with the high country on my door step. Ive been planning a back pack hunt for a while and there was a few things in your vid that I’ve missed in my inventory thanks heaps for sharing your experiences and knowledge 👍.
Jonsey 300 not a prob Jono - thank you for watching
Fantastic straight forward. Can I ask about your food you take for a three day trip
Hi Harry - it depends what type of terrain am I backpack hunting into. If it’s easy terrain then I don’t really care what I take weight wise, but if it’s alpine mountainous terrain then I’ll pack more dehydrated items that weigh less.
Typically I like to take bacon, rye wraps, tuna or salmon, trail mix, muesli bars, crackers, cheese, red onion, seasoning, gravy, electrolytes. If an animal is taken I love to cook it up fresh 🙌👌
Thanks for that, really informative. Good luck for the hunt in May👍🏻
Mark Mitchell thanks Mark
very informative, thanks for sharing. Good to see what other people use out there.
Coco Charlie matenga thanks for watching

Tony Stewart thanks Tony; just started the 12 week program yesterday. I'll be over in late april and will pop out somewhere local in the bay of plenty nz
I'll look to do something on training in the coming weeks. Fitness is a massively important component to me

Well done.
Great overview. Which binos/scope do you use?
Nicholas Chhabra thanks Nic - Binos are Leica Geovid HDs 10x40 with inbuilt range finder out to 1300yards. Rifle Scope for the current sambar rifle is a carls zeiss conquest 4.5-14x44 on a sako 75 HUNTER in 30-06 cal
MountainMan HuntingFilms cheers mate. The Leicas sure are sharp arent they! I’m quite partial to the Swaros too
Nicholas Chhabra nice Nic! yeah still own a pair of swarovskis too which ill never sell. Both brands so sharp and ideal in low light conditions when so many maturer animals are on the move
Great Video,
Can u list the gear in the description mate? What hiking boots would u recommend
boots depends on terrain mate, what is it for, where and what season
list in the description for you mate
MountainMan HuntingFilms thanks mate 😊

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣classic
Can the deer see hi vis?
Robbie Keane they do see it but not as an orange colour like we see because deer are colour blind... i believe they see it as a grey'y colour. They key though, no matter how camoflauged you are, is to limit movement because once they pick up the movement then it doesn't matter what you're wearing!
Ppl
Many this should be a pack tripe
