"Jolene" is one of Dolly Parton's most famous and widely recognized songs. It was released in 1973 as the title track of her twenty-second solo studio album. The song tells the story of a woman pleading with another woman named Jolene not to take away her man. The lyrics convey the narrator's desperation and vulnerability as she acknowledges Jolene's beauty and begs her not to "take [her] man."
The song became a massive hit for Dolly Parton and has been covered by numerous artists over the years. "Jolene" has since become a country music classic and is often cited as one of the greatest country songs of all time. Dolly Parton's emotive delivery, coupled with the timeless theme of love and jealousy, has contributed to the enduring popularity of the song. Развлечения

Whitney Houston killed “I Will Always Love You”, but it was written and originally recorded by Dolly Parton. Perhaps this is the rabbit hole you seek!
Funny story. When Whitney sang it, Dolly being Dolly with her sense of humor, said it's Whitney's song now because she sang better that her! Both renditions were remarkable.
@@thisisitreactions also you can find Dolly telling the story that Elvis wanted to sing that song, but she refused it because Colonel Tom wanted
half the publishing if Elvis did it.
@@thisisitreactions Dolly wrote Jolene and
I will Always Love You the same day.
To add on, Doly went #1 originally, Whitney went #1, and when Dolly did it in Best lil Whorehouse, it went #1 again
@@thisisitreactionsand, amongst her many philanthropic efforts, Dolly has donated all profits she made in royalties from Whitney’s version to a local black community in Nashville. She’s the real deal, a genuinely good and decent human being ♥️
Best thing I ever heard her say... "it takes a lot of money to look this cheap". Lol. Love her.
This is a true story. Dolly actually wrote Jolene and I Will Always Love You on the same night. I live 40 miles from her home town, we hear a lot about her -She gives away millions of dollars to help the area and community. We love her!!!!!! We watched her on a local morning
tv show when she was 12 or 13 yrs old.
That was a good day’s work!
That tremolo in her voice... ''please don't take him just because you can''. Epic ageless song.
I’m not a country fan but I LOVE this song and Dolly Parton. And yes Dolly, you can certainly compete with Joleen. What a beauty!
I'm not a country music fan, but I do know that Dolly Parton is one of the most humble and down to earth people ever born...and has done a *huge* amount of charity for *all* of humanity. Truly, an impressive human being.
Dolly loves her “ haystacks”. ( wigs). She says, “ The higher the hair, the closer to God!”
You know she wrote “ I Will Always Love You” ( Whitney’s big hit), too, right? And she sings it. She’s written thousands of songs. Grew up in a family of fourteen in a one room shack - her dad was a sharecropper.
I highly recommend another true story song from her life - Coat of Many Colors. ❤
Miley Cyrus is Dolly’s goddaughter.
My favorite Dolly quote about her wigs has always been: “People always ask me how long it takes to do my hair. I don't know, I'm never there.” 🤣
@@laraismyname821 My favorite Dolly quote: "I'm not offended by all the dumb blonde jokes because I know I'm not dumb... and I also know that I'm not blonde." - Dolly Parton.
'based on a true story' I can't imagine Dolly begging ANYONE for ANYTHING. 😂❤
I think any young woman, which Dolly was very young when she first wrote this, can be insecure and not as confident as when they are more mature. Now she probably wouldn’t beg him to stay, but when you’re you 🤷♀️
You should listen to Coat of many colors. That's a true song, and it's about her Mother making her a coat out of a bunch of scraps . She grew up very poor, her family didn't have alot. I've heard that she has a little museum in Tennessee and that the coat is on display for people to see.
Another song Dolly wrote about the poverty is "In the Good Old Days (When Times Were Bad), has lines "We've got up before to find ice on the floor where the wind would blow snow through the cracks in the wall." She was born in a log cabin in the Great Smokey Mountains of east Tennessee. She said they used to tear pages out of catalogs to use as wallpaper.
Coat of Many Colors should be the next one. Another great older song from her that I think you'll also enjoy and respect. It's a popular one that may even bring a tear to your eye if you grew up not having much.
the studio version has insane guitarplay that i missed in this performance, i must say
The song was written as a joke to her husband about a flirty bank teller. Jolene is one of her fans name she met.
"COAT OF MANY COLORS" is a true story also! And it's a very touching song, being how poor they were!
Dolly writes, at least, 10 songs a day. She wrote Jolene and I Will Always Love You, in the same day.
Fenam you being an old fan of this talented, classy lady and her beautiful music (she writes her own songs) shows you have great taste😉
Coat of many colors.
A coat of many colors is a great song
I will Always Love you yes she wrote this song! ❤
You should check out Loretta Lynn - Fist City, for a different take on the other woman. I think you'll enjoy it!
I'm not a huge country listener, even with enjoying several country flavored Dead classics. But Dolly has always held that special place in my heart for the genre. Knowing the history of the music, I thought it only fitting Beyonce would cover this masterpiece. She did it well and Dolly is proud of Bey.
Yeah. I was a youngun' when that film came out.
Found out a while ago that "Islands In The Stream" was written by the Bee Gees for Marvin Gaye originally and knowing that, I can easily "hear" the Bee Gees having something to do with that.
Honestly, I've always felt this song was powerful and though not a Country fan, this song is niiccee
Edit: Not a Dolly Parton song but I sincerely think you gents would dig Reba Mcintyre's, "Fancy" the most
With the official video!
Dolly sang it in an intimate, bittersweet way to reflect her leaving Porter to strike out on her own.
It portrays the complicated and mixed emotions of real life. If you know the story you appreciate her song and her singing of it.
Whitney put her spin and made it worldwide but Dolly hit the heart.
"Coat of Many Colors" and "He's Alive" by Dolly! 💚🤙
the name Jolene came from a child she met after a concert. She told the little girl, "I love that name! I'm going to write a song with that." She kept repeating it to herself, "Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene," all the way back to the bus so as not to forget it and by the time she got to the bus the melody was already set!
Me and Little Andy, Coat of Many Colors, Down From Dover, You Can't Make Old Friends, The Pain of Loving You, To Know Him Is To Love Him, Wildflowers.
There are three levels of female country singers. First you have Tammy Wynette, "Stand By Your Man". Then you have Dolly with "Jolene", saying "please don't take my man". And then you have the Queen of Country Music, Loretta Lynn, with "You Ain't Woman Enough To Take My Man" and "Fist City", daring a girl to try to take her man, with a smile on her face and a threat on her tongue. Loretta didn't take any crap. You should check her out some time. BTW, really enjoying your reactions.
I love me some Dolly. You guys should also check out Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline, a couple more queens ❤
Great suggestions!
Dolly Parton is one of the best story tellers out there! two of my All time favorites are Coat of Many Colors, and Little Andy
Even in a diss track she is respectful😊😊😊😊
😄 Enjoyed the Islands in the Stream joke.
Dolly said that the reason her waist was so small was because things can't grow in the shade.
Metal guy here, but listened to both Dolly and Kenny, and knew Islands in the Stream, but didn't pick up the answer. You all should do some of their collab work or individual content. Both are great storytellers who can actually sing. No need for production/manipulation. Happy you did this live version as well. I think it's the best with her intro explaining the situation, and you should consider her halftime show if you all didn't already watch it live. Not to deflect from Dolly, but you should also consider reacting to either Kenny Rogers' Coward of the County or the Gambler which is probably his best known. Keep up the good work gents.
It was a boob joke.
Back in the 70's this record was almost worn out on the jukeboxes, and not just in country bars!
Dolly loves wigs and she made a comment numerous times about basically she likes to look trashy😂😂😂😂 she just is a big personality and unfortunately she's getting up there and it will be heartbreaking when she passes for many people😢😢😢 she will be greatly missed❤❤❤❤
Y’all definitely need to react to her singing her new song World On Fire live at the amc awards!! It’s so good!!
Dolly Parton is Miley Cyrus's God Mother and good friends with her dad Billy Ray Cyrus
This is back when musicians and singers really had to have talent, no autotuned watered down garbage!
On a binge watch gents 😁.
Not ome for country music but this track was a favourite when younger.
Can definitely listen to Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson. Not sure what genre to fit Johnny Cash in but his albums i do have
My grandfather still loves her.
This song was a mix of two ideas. Her husband of nearly 60 years now liked to tease her about the teller at the bank flirting with him, and she joked I knew he didn't need to be spending that much time down at the bank because we didn't have that much money at the time. The second part was she met a little red haired girl at her concert and asked her name, and she said Jolene and thought it pretty so she put those two ideas together. Dolly wrote Jolene and I Will Always Love You back to back in her writing session in 1973.
I don’t recall ever hearing the song before it was in the movie “Whip It”. I’m not young, it just wasn’t on my radar and I know a lot of music!
You should listen to Chapel Hart's You Can Have Him Jolene". FANTASTIC! ✌️
Dolly Part has been married to Carl Dean for about 60 years. And fun fact - she is Miley Cyrus's "fairy godmother". Lots of Dolly's songs are autobiographical - I second those who say to check out Coat of Many Colors.
awwwww you were so respectful when you referred to the islands as "bosoms". As a woman I thank you for that.
Islands in the Stream written by the Bee Gees.
Whitney Huston's "I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU" was written & sung by Dolly. Different attitude but just as lovely.
Never knew the song was a true story. Love Dolly and her music. I'd recommend reacting to some George Strait, too.
I remember that “Island in the stream” was sample as “ Ghetto Superstar “
FANTASTIC MOVIE
Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton were in 9-5.
Another great song and reaction. A lot of Dolly's songs were covered by other artists who did just as good or in some people's opinions even better. I think my favorite Dolly song that she sang would be "Here you come again".
Dolly wrote this song and "I Will Always Love You" (yes Whitney Houston covered it) on the same Day! 🥴😆🤔💯🤣
First, great song and great reaction. The movie9 to 5 still is hilarious, and probably a lot of jokes couldn’t fly now. As far as songs, my number one favorite is Here You Come Again. It’s melancholy but also somehow hopeful. She’s an amazing songwriter. She also covered Stairway to Heaven, which is definitely worth a listen. She changed it up quite a bit.
I remember that movie with dolly and Burt Reynolds’s. Great movie and Joleen is her best song
If i recall correctly it was The best little whore house in texas, good film and got me hooked on this song
Dolly and her husband have been together for over 50 years.
fenom202, I loved your joke! I actually lol'd. hahaha.
Coat of Many Colors is a song I think you guys would enjoy.
I just remember that joke from the 80s! So hilarious! - Fenom202
Dolly Parton song is great!! Yeah Whitney Houston did a great job singing this song ❤❤
Jolene was a woman at her bank, putting moves on her husband
#DOLLYPARTON #HOMEFREE #VOICEPLAY #BASSGANG
What! You’ve never heard this before ?? Omg x
Reporter: How long does it take to do your hair?
Dolly: I don’t know, I’m never there when they do it!
She writes songs and keeps rights to all her songs.
Oh my God I love that you had a crush on Dolly Parton she is beautiful and her goodness just shines through and yes I remember the movie The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas LOL and 9 to 5:00 was a good movie too she just is good at everything she does❤❤❤❤
Dolly does many things well, but if you haven’t check out her blue grass recordings, you should. Those are my favorite!
White stripes do a really good cover of this which really is interesting considering it is the white stripes 😂😂
Yes , it is a true story
She is still with her husband!! They got married in 1966!
Dolly really is a good soul. She and my Mom were cousins. She sometimes comes home for Parton family reunions. BTW, she and her husband have been married for 40+ years.
The Mindy Smith video is my favorite version.
It’s the story she has always told about Jolene!
There is a fantastic version of this with Dolly singing with the incredible group Pentatonix. I strongly recommend it. You'll love it!
Here You Come Again is a Great Dolly song
big fan of THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS! saw the musical onstage. and saw the movie in the theatre. they both are good. the show can seem very dated by today's standards in terms of sex and sexuality. but dolly, Burt Reynolds. and especially Charles Durning who was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE, are all excellent!!! dolly is an American treasure. Plus she is a really good person. thanks for posting!
9 to 5 is a really good comedy with Dolly, Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda. It's a very actual story with great irony. God bless Dolly❤ ❤❤❤
There is an all-girl band called Chapel Hill, while on AGT they sang an original song called "You Can Have Him Jolene" They are 2 sisters and their cousin all of them are girls of color singing country. Dolly loved it.
Chapel Hill is great.
My mom's name is Jolene, this came out a month before I was born! Back then she had strawberry blonde hair and she still has green eyes. It wasn't about her though, lol. We are in Louisiana and had always thought Jolene was a Cajun name!
Please play "Me and Little Andy' for me. Also by Dolly Parton. Thank you so much. Good Evening. Adios.
Could you guys please do Kenny Rogers the gambler.
Keep up the great work
Also beastie boys 2 mcs and one dj
Peace
Yes that a classic movie adaptation of a stage musical (by the same name). That movie also brought "I Will Always Love You" back out as a hit for Dolly since they used it in the movie.
To clarify, the movie was first. I think that’s what you meant but wasn’t sure.
@@NoCreamedCorn "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" opened off-Broadway mid-1978. The movie was in 1982 & is an adaptation of that 1978 stage production.
I'm amazed that you have never heard this song ... I'm in UK and have heard it play on many radio stations over the years and on the telly .
I love Dolly. All-around fantastic lady, by all accounts!
Can you do "Work Song" by Hozier. I love that song, and the video is lovely...
Dolly has Netflix "Heartstrings"
You have to hear the Milly Sirus version , it is very different .
I was born in 71, so I grew up with this song, dad loved country music....I actually cried to it, because it seemed so sad, I had no idea really what it was about. I do not like country music, I'm quite allergic actually 😂 But this was fun to watch. Hugs from Sweden.
A couple songs of her's that have really stayed with me "The Bridge" - a song with one of the most stark and memorable endings I can recall. Off her Albumn "Just Because I'm a Woman", it truly must have stunned some people in '68 when it came out. The second is "Little Sparrow" off her albumn of the same name. It came out in 2001 when she decided to go back to her folky/bluegrass roots - "Shine" off the albumn won a Grammy, but Little Sparrow will always be my favourite
Dolly has wrote over 3000 songs.❤❤😊😊
I think you guys did a couple reactions to Led Zeppelin awhile back, you seemed to really like what you heard. One reaction you should do is Led Zeppelin live (1973) at Madison Square Gardens, Since I’ve Been Loving You. It’s an amazing Blues style with Rock influences, I think you guys would really love it. A great one for the instruments is Achilles Last Stand, I’ll be looking to see if you try them, thank you if you do.
Islands in The Stream was written by The Bee Gees.
Islands in the stream, Dolly and Kenny rogers.
She did this song a few years ago with the acapella group Pentatonix. That recording you can find on RUclips and it actually won a Grammy I believe. You should check it out.
For a song with a similar theme, but a very different message, check out Loretta Lynn’s “Fist City.”
Love Dolly! Iv'e seen her twice at eh HOllywood Bowl. You should watch Dolly and Kenny ISLANDS IN THE STREAM the live version and the live version of I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU from the 1970's! Thanks for doing Dolly!
Both Jack White and Miley Cyrus do incredible covers of this song.
Keep in mind the story she told is a bit of theatre... she's explained that it wasn't really true.. but like many of us, we see a pretty girl being nice to our man... and thoughts get in our head.. but He never cheated as far as anyone says... But she's great at finding human thoughts and feelings and putting them in a song that a lot of folks can relate to. You can't go wrong with anything Dolly sings.. she's written thousands of songs.
Nice choice, dudes...
Have you guys reacted to “Fire” by Ohio Players yet? It’s just so good.
"Pulling up old pics of dolly, for science"
Thanks! Could you react to Bob Seger…so many great songs Night Moves, Main Street, Roll Me Away all great.
Thank you so much Siemone for the donation and support! We will definitely react to it!! 😊
What I love about yall young man middle man and old man 😅
Please listen to Chapel Hart singing their follow-up song “You Can Have Him Jolene”
Listen to the radio version. It’s much better. And also react to “I will always love you” ❤
