Lotus’s took over all Tesco stores in Asia. My first Tesco shopping was in Hendon, North London back in 1997 and the first Tesco store in Malaysia was in Puchong, Selangor just outskirt or KL just 2km from where I am residing
Woow. food is so expensive in malaysia considering per capita income is so less compared to western countries. I live in the US and you can find similar pricing in COstco!
Lotus's used to be Tesco's partner in Thailand, thus many Tesco's vendors still supplying Lotus's here. Try the smaller banana (local name: Berangan), its tastier. The sodium content of the instant noodle quite high, haha ... 😀
Malaysia is the best! So happy you see your family having a good time in my home country. Whilst I am paying so much at Tesco’s here in the UK every week. 50 quid at least and you don’t get very much!
Cheap for all those who carries £,USD, Sing dollars, Euros. Expensive for us ordinary Malaysians. Prices have risen 25 -30% across the board since the pandemic but our wages remains pretty stagnant
A big tray of eggs you saw just now has 30 eggs and not 24. That's standard price of RM12+ for grade B of normal eggs. The Omega ones will cost slightly more. The packet slice cheese normally comes in 6 or 12s. Yes Penang is a great place to stay in Malaysia. Has got both city and beach vibes 😊 Great food too.
Its cheaper for you but for us locals with local salaries, it's quite expensive, the rates have major differences, but the purchasing power is the same.
I remember these: Milo can of 400g was £4.50 both in tesco and sainsbury's, and neither had a different size nor the soft refill packs Fragrant thai jasmine rice sack of 5kg was £7 in sainsbury's, that was the max size they carried, if you wanted a 10kg sack you need to go to the mini markets operated by middle eastern or oriental owners, but usually those stores had higher prices Sainsbury's own brand whole milk was £1.75 for a carton of 2.27L (yes it's odd, but surprise surprise, the UK still uses imperial measurements instead of metric in many things, including distances therefore speedometers in cars display mph!) For mineral water, a carton of 4 bottles x 2L each (here they used metric already hahah) was cheapest at aldi, at £1.39 and although most of the times I shopped either at tesco or sainsbury's, I cannot recall what their prices were, probably around £1.70 Colgate total went for £3 at tesco for the 125ml tube And lastly, sainsbury's own brand 75g a4 printer paper was £4.75 but I don't remember how many pieces were in that ream
Happy to have your family back in Penang, Malaysia. Some items like chicken, eggs, the price was controlled by the goverment, so you can buy it cheap, enjoy your shopping & have a nice day, God bless your family😊
I was in the UK (Edinburgh) last week, oh boy...now Fish n Chips £15 = RM90. You guys can spend like king here in Malaysia 😂. 1 week in the UK holiday is probably 3 weeks here in KL.
Fish & chip was £5-7 before, was cheap, i dont know how much now… but i notice previously when our family ate out it was about £30ish (2 adult 2 children) but now it’s £50ish
I drove to edinburgh twice, loved it! But oh boy, you have to travel down to liverpool to get those chippies! I highly recommend this corner store to you, and to everybody else: best kebab, which is located on brownlow hill road right in the middle of the city. It's operated by some turkish guys if I'm not mistaken, it's halal for muslims too. When I was there last year it opened from 4pm to 4am. Yup you read that correctly. Twice I stopped there around midnight, driving back home to liverpool from manchester airport after some trips to europe. In the cold weather where you might be mistaken to be smoking every time you spoke or breathed out through your mouth, those freshly baked, smoking hot fish and chips provided a delicious relief! As long as I remembered to tell the guys, no vinegar and loads of extra mayonnaise hahah. And every time I went there was specifically for their thick delicious fish and chips, never for their kebabs haha. I've tasted fish and chips in blackpool and some other cities, but personally that corner store in liverpool was the best ever, and what we have in malaysia do not even come anywhere close! And it only cost £6.50 with the chips!!
If u look from uk or those big countries currency 💲 n buying items in Malaysia is different, but if it's local Malaysian we will compare all the stuff, items before we buy 😅
Nicely paced, great video. IMO, I would recommend not serving your girls any food products that contained "high fructose corn syrup" or "monosodium glutamate" ingredients. Best luck to you and family, cheerio!
I can't compare to the UK, but I do know that my supermarket shopping here in KL in Malaysia is way more expensive, than what I was paying for the same products back in The Netherlands, when living there. Life in Malaysia can be very affordable, but not in supermarkets.
I am British Bangladeshi and i am thinking about buying a property in Malaysia. I want to rent it out for 15-20 years until i retire. I'll visit often.
My neighbour is using the social credit thing from UK and living in Malaysia for years, he said it's somewhat illegal though but wouldn't it make more sense to live in lower cost country?
Tesco in msia n thailand just acquired by Lotus frm thailand.their products mainly comes frm uk n local brands.unfortunately tesco hs sold their businesses just recently.
Malaysian earning ringgit is suffering. Dollar to dollar Malaysia food is super expensive than UK. If you earn a British pound and spend in Malaysia of course it is cheap . Dollar to dollar UK is cheaper. I been to UK recently and found their supermarket is much cheaper than London if you earn British pound
Although illegal in Malaysia consider handcuffs when in front of the camera. Buying decent bread in Malaysia is so, so difficult and all of that shown caters for local tastes and is loaded with sugar. For good bread, you have to bake it yourself or try and find a proper local bakery in which case you have to take time and travel costs into account. Good cheese is also difficult to buy outside of Cold Storage stores although at least, supermarkets do offer some choice. I usually buy mine in Singapore. Malaysian milk is nowhere close to UK milk in terms of taste. It's never worth buying cheap suitcases even if you travel once a year. Bananas used to be so much cheaper, so cheap that many small shop just left them hanging outside after they closed. The range of fruit is impressive and cheap but best bought after tasting which small vendors don't just allow but encourage. Local people don't like chicken breasts because they're considered dry and tasteless, that's why they're so cheap. If you want decent beef you have a real problem, it's very difficult to find and very, very expensive. "Quality eggs" how do you know? If you're going to make comparisons to the UK then you have to include all of the quality assurance, traceability and animal welfare and nit just prices. Sugar free soda? I wouldn't drink it let alone give it to children.
Pack of 10 toilet roll in malaysia is £1.80. In UK a big pack is 18 rolls for £5.50. Not really worth moving to malaysia just to save a pound. Bread in UK is 70p so its actually more expensive in malaysia.

How much is checken breast in uk?
uk prices are affordable too.....compare to malaysia
Yes, things in Malaysia are relatively cheap for foreigners, but less so for the locals, as the wages and weak Ringgit currency is not helping

@@muhammad11ali11 If you buy local products, the "weak" ringgit doesn't matter much. Just like the chicken prices in Lotus.

The "weak" ringgit is planned by BNM. It is designed to help our export, tourism and F&B sectors.
@@squidster3128 That is only logic if Malaysian is so active in export. in reality, we are more on Import than export.
