- Make sure your TV is passing 5.1 audio through to your Sonos Play Bar or Beam by useing bitstream audio setting in your TV's menu.

Did you guys switch to from pcm to Dolby digital or Bitstream like he said in the video ?
I just saw this. Wow. 1 year later!! For me I had to update my Apple TV’s output to Dolby and not auto. Finally saw 5.1! Thanks!

I had my audio settings unknowingly on PCM, and thought the Sonos sounded amazing. I had forgotten that you have to change the setting to Dolby Digital to get the 5.1 surround sound. Talk about a big difference, the surrounds kicked in like never before. I think many Sonos users don’t know that you have to change your audio setting on your TV.
I have one Playbar with a Sony smart TV, when I get into the option of audio output, it gives me the option of selecting PCM and Automatic, so Automatic is the same as Bitstream on your Vizio TV?
Try automatic and confirm it’s 5.1 through the Sonos app.
Omg ! Having the 5.1 over a year not using the 5.1 😥 what a difference
My tv has no such PCM nor bitstream settings anywhere. I have a Sonos Beam with HDMI, no optical connection.
I have a Beam also. What does your Sonos app say its outputting, it might already be 5.1 ...
